I didn't actually want them to get fired, I wanted them to listen to our constructive negative feedback and adjust the next game to want we the fans wanted (Chloe and Max handled with respect and not a superhero type looking setup they seemed to want). I hope Square just gives LIS back to DontNod, the DontNod team is always engaging with LIS fans still to this day when we talk about LIS1 and LIS2 and they are better suited to handle the franchise they created.

Max is a superhero character though and is well used to explore those tropes in milder, intimate stories like LIS.
Where they are Finding Out is that they stomped all over the most die-hard faithful fans the franchise has; Pricefielders.
They didn’t even have to have Chloe in the damn game, just could have established her off screen for the duration, had some texts, maybe some V/O, and trusted their plot and gameplay not to need romance subplots for Max

    • @PricefieldPunk
      @PricefieldPunk หลายเดือนก่อน +13

@@danieldiaz4084 I think they didn't wanna do more stories with Max and Chloe cause they said the story is complete with those two. Michel Koch always says he wanted to give the players the power to craft your own stories on where they think Max and Chloe's lives would go, the only thing DontNod really says about Pricefield is they're destined to be together forever if you saved Chloe at the end.

@@PricefieldPunk I don’t know about the last part, but yeah they didn’t plan on making another life is strange with max and Chloe which tbh kinda made sense for me since it would have been too difficult with the choice you have to make at the end of life is strange 1 bc it’s difficult to make a game where both ending would be respected, or made sense. When DE trailer got out tbh I wasn’t really thrilled because of that reason but in the end I actually really enjoyed if even tho I always choose to save Chloe, I do think that for the next game they plan (or planned) to have Chloe in it since max kinda mention it in the end of DE (that or she mention that she might be ready to go back at Arcadia bay depending if Chloe is dead or not in your game)
I genuinely think Deck Nine can make a great job for the next game, I mean for me they did a really great job with before the storm and Chloe character at that time so they def could do it again, as much as I want to see Chloe again tho, the new characters were really great, romance option were meh but yeah, let’s hope for the best

To me it just felt like a bad copy of LiS 1. The only thing that was kinda unique about DE was the travelling between two realities, but other than that they used pretty much everything that made LiS 1 unique, except that they couldn't handle the whole ''time travel'' thing just as good as LiS 1, making the story a complete mess. It seems like they thought they could excuse anything with time travel but forgot it has to make actual sense.

i haven't heard much about the story and i don;t want to yet...i haven't got the game i don't want spoilers...but i have heard many people whining about glitches or other grpahical problems and as an expert pointed out in an interview this is a huge marketing mistake; DE is meant to come out for the Switch as well so the last thing we wan to hear is negative feedback that makes Square Enix and Deck Nine think "well hey maybe we should just cancel the Switch version enitrely" and this is eactly what's in their mindset...which is cold and selfish to those of us who have pre-ordered the switch version.

“This action will have consequences” that is the life is strange motto. I feel like Double Exposure had such a disconnect between fans and the creative team. I’m not saying the fans are always right, but feedback and having knowledge on what your fan base wants to see is a big deal. Obvious things that needed to be handled with care with such a polarizing ending from the first Life Is Strange were not met. These are the consequences of such actions. I do hope all those that have been laid off can still be financially stable, but they did a lot of the continuation of this story wrong and I can’t say I am surprised it has come to this.

I read an article recently about Deck9’s working culture. Beyond the horrible working culture (crunch, bullying etc), it talked about how the narrative team was unhappy with the direction DE was taking at multiple points, but the former CCO (who was there until as late as April 2024) didn’t listen to them and took decision making away from the narrative team as a response.
It’s sad that it’s the narrative team being let go, and not the executives who (according to the news) seem to be the root of the problem with DE. Of course it’s not a single person’s fault, but in my head the meddling hands of the executives explains why the first chapter are so much higher quality than the last two.
If you wanna read about it just look up “decknine working culture” and the things I’m saying specifically were in a eurogamer article.

  • @Dzsorden1

I think what they did with Chloe was far from the only issue of this game so to be short:
Safi was a horrible person, and I didn't get a chance to refuse her, or shoot her because decline her offer in the end wasn't satisfying enough
There were plenty of times when the game forced me to do things: best example was when I had to expose Lucas meanwhile I thought talk to him first and not follow the karen's plan who just broke into Max's house
Safi's motivation of revenge for that girl was just hollow, we cared for Rachel because everyone was talking about her, that girl was just brought up twice before suddenly I had to evenge her death by her own hand. For all I new she could've been a horrible person
The romance options was generic and boring (the guy was kinda fun but he still had to replace Chloe, and he made me realise, Warren was actually a great romance option)
The storm was weak. In the first one it destroy everything and now it was barely an inconvenience.
The choices in the end didn't matter. I couldn't shoot Safi, but even the town's folk fate was the same.
The cat didn't sit in Max's lap ONCE
The two timelines emerged in the end dodging the possibility of a really cool choice of choosing between the two
And the worst of it all the superpowers became the focus. Life is strange wether it's about Max or Chloe or Alex, even Sean, it's suppose to be an emotional journey.
It's the same thing when Game of Thrones started to be about dragons and not men plotting in dark rooms and women scheming in beatiful gardens. (I just started reading the books instead, join me in this, it's great)
Marvel's shared universe it's probably on their way out ny now, but back in the day they didn't just brought superheroes together, they also built a threat for them to face
So creating a team of gay superpowered girls is just the wrong way for the franchise to go.
To make it clear I agree that it's horrible for these people to lose their job, but I'm glad that this vision of Life is strange just not likely to happen.

I feel the same way. Safi was the worst character I’ve seen in any Life is Strange game. I hated that we couldn’t set boundaries with her and how Max was so obsessed with her. She was a horrible person. Also, I think Warren ended up looking way better in comparison to Vinh. Vinh is not someone Max would realistically be interested in. The love interests in this game just weren’t very good.

As a longtime fan of the series, this is a deeply sad time to be living in. (Also apologies in advance for a really long comment)
I didn't love True Colors (I thought it was alright, if a little forgettable), but I also didn't hate it as much as Before the Storm (for too many reasons to go into here). I was really hopeful that Deck Nine would be able to bring us a worthwhile continuation of Max's story. And they had some good ideas early on. Like, there's an (seemingly evil) alternate reality Max running around? Characters seemingly having doppelgangers that are ruining their lives? A REALLY engaging puzzle of Max jumping between timelines to find a piece of evidence before a detective can? I loooooved what Deck Nine was cooking up here. But over the last two episodes, they didn't just NOT stick the landing - they crashed and burned spectacularly. The story is full of inconsistencies and plot holes, not only about Max's new and old powers, but character motivations. Settings and scenarios are seemingly pulled straight from older games (attending a party in Ep4, thrown by a morally questionable club where shit goes down/finding out a male teacher has mistreated his students/having an obligatory "reality is breaking" sequence in the last episode). An entire character (the detective, Vince Alderman) is introduced and then seemingly erased from existence with no follow-up. The whole mystery of who killed Safi is thrown out the window after Ep3 in pursuit of avenging a character we never even meet, who seems to exist only to be the victim of the school's administration. The confounding "final choice" and the ambiguous ending seems to set up an MCU-style, X-Men-esque sequel. The new characters are, for the most part, painfully one-note and uninteresting. Neither of the ham-fisted "romance options" interested me in the slightest. Vinh is an arrogant dickhead, and Amanda is just...there. (I actually forgot her name and had to look it up just now.) Really, there are too many story issues to mention and this comment will already be paragraphs long.
The cherry on top of Deck Nine's mishandling of the story is how they shrugged off Chloe. Now I don't know how DE frames the Bay ending and honestly I don't have enough interesting in replaying it to find out. But I chose the Bae ending and I was curious how the writing staff would "respect" that ending, in their words. Turns out they didn't respect it at all. The story arbitrarily decides that Max and Chloe break up at some point because Chloe can't handle Max being hung up on the past or something (which is kind of wild given how dedicated Max was to Chloe). Max even admits that they had a "big fight" but has no details on what it was about. Instead of having Chloe away for a job/busy visiting David/being a long-distance partner for whatever reason, DE's story just writes her out completely while still letting us see pointless social media updates from her with no means of reaching out to her. And in the ending I witness in DE, Moses asks if Max is ready to stop running from the blue-haired girl (or something to that effect), which threw me for an even bigger loop. How on earth did the Deck Nine team think they would be able to follow up on Chloe in a later game after completely sidelining her character in this one?? Just ... absolutely bonkers.
And for what it's worth, I'm sure Square Enix's meddling is how we got the outrageously overpriced DLC that was a few "meh" alternate outfits (which changed Max's hair and makeup for no reason) and "cat content" that was just a few moments throughout the game which could easily be cut out. None of this helps the fundamental failure DE is as a sequel - now it's just a vastly overpriced sequel with overpriced cosmetics.
My best case scenario is DONTNOD is allowed to take control of the games again and either somehow fix the mess D9 made of Max's story, or do something completely new (in line with their original "anthology" approach to the series).

Because i want to believe that the director of this game who has been fired created a complete story including the next game, and it is really hard to tell from this game what he had in his mind. So any new director won't be able to complete this one properly if he/she don't know about that complete story.

The characters are NOT interesting. LifEisStrange3 was Good I actually cried with u. Several scenes of powerful emotions and situations were evoked. Charlotte's anger scene is just 1 that blew us away. Safi isn't really interesting. We needed Chole pretty bad. Welp back to the original creators DONTNOD. Granted, I thought it had an undeserved bad reputation back then, but I also think people are being hypocrites. Wouldn't surprise me if the next game did a u turn on everything DE was, played it ridiculously safe, and then people realized that DE being bold and controversial was actually a good thing, even if the execution was poor at times

Ya know, are people who are into Pricefield perhaps too into it? Maybe. But they're also the fans who've kept LiS alive as a franchise for ten years with Fanfiction, artwork, and all sorts of other things. Ya look at AO3, 8k fanfictions or so for LiS, and like 3.6k of those have Max and Chloe together. Fanfiction as well has like 3k LiS stories with like at least 1.5k of them having Chloe and Max in them. I dunno who looked at that and said, ya know what they would really like? Breaking them up. People who sacrificed Chloe/saved Arcadia Bay don't really care about what happens after. I've seen very little to no one complain about how it basically received the same treatment. Max talks to literally no one. Not Kate, Warren, Dana, Victoria, no one.
Anyone who did 5 minutes of research could tell you that Max and Chloe are the most popular couple in the LiS franchise. LiS much as I love the series is a niche game with a limited audience, and limited ability to gain new fans. Whoever decided that pissing off half the fan base if the stats at the end of liS1, and the remaster are anything to go by, was a dumb decision and D9/SE have only themselves to blame. And yes some people have overreacted with threats and harassment that they shouldn't have. But they also aren't the ones who burned the bridge down either.

There are infinite timelines when it comes to LiS. In this timeline Max and Chloe just separated. The way the game presented it makes sense to me. Max is responsible for the hundreds of lives lost to the storm cus she wanted to save one person and Chloe is the person that a town was sacrificed for. Save a whole city or 1 person, there’s only one reasonable answer and that’s the city. I save the Bae btw and I will do it again but my point is, im not mad at the games portrayal of Max and Chloe’s relationship in the game

This is a huge problem that I probably expected. I never got to play double exposure because of the endless bugs on the pc port and I ended up just uninstalling just until something happens if it does. The fact they waited about 2/3 months to fix the loading screen bug but the lag is still happening on the menu and in the main game is crazy. You have to realize that Square Enix has no room to mess around any longer with franchises that simply do not yield much profit and sadly Life is Strange hasn't been delivering for many years. SquareEnix flagships are failing, I can only assume they will cut way more "fat" to make up for their huge losses the past few years. Life is Strange is one of the only remaining western IPs under Squares mantle. If I was SE i would not give D9 another contract risking another flop from the financial perspective.

Good riddance the people behind DE's mistakes are gone. Feel bad for anyone who did their best and wasn't the cause of DE's issues but the people who are at fault for DE's failure firstly by pissing off a huge part of the fanbase with a horrible handling of bae ending and trying to hide it until the last possible moment (a dev lied and said they'd never do fans wrong in a reply to stuff worrying about Chloe) (which to be fair SE probs didn't help with) and then made the sloppy last half of the game with a direction that is nothing like LiS... they are the cause of DE not doing well thus meaning the whole crew had to be laid off which is awful because D9 didn't get their money they needed from the game. So now many are out of a job because some people made creative choices that made a game fail among fans and players. I doubt SE helped at all, they probs mandated a Max return but D9 could have done way better with it. A Max game could have done very well but just like Clem from TWDG, the continuation is botched and has failed to get everyone on board. However DE isn't as outright bad but did worse while Clem books are probs cheap and still making a profit I'd guess even with their awful reception among fans.
Hopefully this however teaches SE and what is left of D9 some harsh lessons so future LiS can be good and respect what came before. DE needs to be retconned away or else LiS is dead to the fans anyway. LiS and Max and Chloe's story is BETTER off if DE NEVER existed which is an awful spot for a game to be in. Money is what most companies listen to and LiS DE not giving it will make them reconsider how to make the next game more successful which DE teaches is not to just tell fans to move on from beloved characters and write them out awfully, or to stray away from what makes LiS, LiS into some setup for something very different and controversial. LiS2 is a different game from liS1 but Dontnod respected what came before with what was shown and the game outright was good. DE has even made some people look back on 2 more fondly as they realise Max returning was an awful idea and what we got from Dontnod was far better.
Again I feel bad for the people who lost their jobs who had done their best and didn't cause the issues but the people who are responsible for DE's failures are to blame for everyone else getting laid off which is just bad. I don't want a LiS DE2 anyway so those people who made the issues should find other places more suited for their skills rather than screwing up LiS, if they have a place somewhere they should find it even if it isn't with LiS. People deserve their jobs after all but sometimes it ain't the right one for them.

Look, Life is Strange DE2/5 was never greenlit and people can plan all they want and sequel bait, it doesn't mean it's confirmed. In fact, based on the layoffs, this feels more like Square Enix decided to not move forward with a sequel and Deck Nine laid off people that would have worked on it and couldn't be shifted to other projects. Life is Strange is most likely a dead franchise now, but that's OK. Franchises don't have to continue indefinitely, especially if they were heading in a direction people didn't like. It's OK to let them go and move onto other games.
