      Learning two-stage flare has helped me a lot. A nice full glide on the final. Look and lean forward, keeping the canopy accurately into the wind. Sharp first stage tug on the brakes to about shoulder level will take out most of the vertical speed. If you end up a little high, no worries - delay/slow down the second stage a bit. Too low, speed up the second stage. Just keep flying the canopy until fully braked, forward momentum stops and you're firmly on your feet :)

      I started getting great landings in AFF by instead of looking straight down or out to the horizon, I look down and about 45 degrees in front. That will give a good indication of where you're going to land and once you get used to seeing the ground at that angle, your flare timing will get more consistent.

    Awesome video. People always pretend their landings are perfect since day 1, you know, "a natural" when the truth is very different. Thanks for keeping things real. Tip: work on the flare. Maintain your body simetrical as you finish and hold the flare. Don't let go. Fly the canopy until the canopy stops flying.

    Just a comment...I always tell my students, when you flare keep your hands in close to your body (you have more power vs arms out wide and if they are out and you land hard on your butt you can break your wrists). Great videos !

    One of my favorite tips I got for my landings is “continue to fly your canopy as long as possible. Cool, your feet can touch the ground. Stand up/walk/run it out, but continue to fly your canopy till you stop.”

    Some other tips:
    1. If you are having trouble with the timing of your flare, you can use a stationary object as reference (on some DZs, a flag or pole).
    2. As you start progressing, learn the characteristics of your canopy. There are comparisons between most popular models online and you can always ask trusted advisors in your DZ (Instructors, rigger, etc).
    Those worked a lot for me.

    Your videos are great! Thanks for sharing your passion with us, I’m at 30 jumps (started this summer in France after dreaming about it for 10 years haha) and I’m always flaring too high, a bit scared of the ground :-( sometimes I land great but can’t remember the vision I had when I started to flare, feeling like I’m not learning after a fail neither a success 🤦‍♀️ I use the technique of « wait... wait... wait » and it helped me a bit but still too high 😅

    It took me 4 solo landings to land standing up. first and second times I slid on my butt (flared too low / instructor assisted flare). Third time was a hard downwind landing and I flared too early and had to PLF after a 15 foot drop (winds aloft blew me all over the place so I had to re-plan my approach pattern--what a disaster). Fourth time was a perfect dive sequence and I stuck the landing. Cat D jump one coming up today...Love your videos btw!! Blue Skies!

    Break length. I spent a season damaging my feet and sliding on my ass because my break lines were not right on a new canopy. The standard length was more than 4 inches too long, I finally took the risk of having them shortened and then MAGIC! geez I could land again. You can check this by pulling toggles down from the connection point with the line, then taking a wrap, then a second wrap each done in a progression to figure out the length impact.

      Discuss it with your coach as well. But it can prevent it. Trust your legs. I always bend my knees a bit to be ready to absorb too. Just started AFF, struggling with turning left. But what worries me the most, is that I suck with flaring when landing, because I can't pull it fully, mid-flare my muscles just go "Nope, we are done". Ended up with a bruised ankle. But I want to land on my feet and with a good flare, instead of my backside/side. Instructor assisted me when to flare (basically when I think I should soon flare, he also starts saying get ready, etc), but I am not sure if I am just too weak, or my body pose is bad. Or everything combined. :(

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is normal at the beginning. When it gets harder to pull I switch my arms angles so that I end up by pushing the toggles down. It is hard to explain, but I start by pulling then raise my elbows above my hands and continue pushing. For timing, you will get that feeling that you should pull but you need to wait a bit. In the end, it is normal and practice will help you as well as reviewing your videos of you, landing. ;)
