    Nice. Well explained. One important bit of advice, though: make sure you unclip the battery before you touch any of the internal components.

    Battery should be disconnected first before removing any components from the logic board. Also when opening up the case and you see this much dust/dirt you should take the time to use compressed air and blow out all the dust and debris from the computer. I usually wipe down the inside part of the case cover as well before closing the case up.

    Thanks, great video. I'd love to note one thing for people who don't have an extra HDD/SSD lying around, instead of buying a whole USB (flash) drive, you can also buy a M2 USB adapter for NVMe drives. You're right on not being able to find a reasonable priced adapter for drives with the Mac connector, but for regular drives there are plenty of cheap and reliable adapters out there, which means you only have to clone it once: directly to your new drive and then you only have to put it in your Mac afterwards. But, if one's going to do that, they might want to skip to the end of the video where you format the drive before running the cloning software again.

    • @Andytizer
      @Andytizer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's true and also the M2 USB adapters are much cheaper now than at the time of recording! However once you put your NVMe in, what are you gonna use the M2 adapter for?

    • @r0ckz
      @r0ckz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Andytizer yeah that's a good point. Might be handy to have around for possible other situations where you need to read out drives like that (or at some point on a new device, the drive you installed in your Macbook), and with a good deal an adapter can be cheaper than a drive with enough storage. But even then it might be more cost effective for some to buy any type of storage to use for other purposes after the cloning process rather than having an adapter you don't do much with.

    Couple of critical points missed for non-Mac user upgrading: for this to work 1) power supply must be plugged in 2)external drive must have no partitions/containers and fully formated as a whole 3) the formating/initializing of upgrade SSD should state "GUI" in line below format choice. You need to update this great video as Carbon Copier has a new version which is even more awesome & still with free trial

    Hi , I want to ask, replace the flash storage of the Macbook Pro 2015 with another SSD from info some friends in the group, there are experience naturally can't hibernate or sleep mode, the battery heats up quickly and wastes and even some that die completely can't be restored again because of the panic screen and then it's completely dead can't be repaired again. My question is, should I look for an SSD and converter that is really compatible because each SSD has different speeds, while the Mac software is not as fast as the latest SSD. Then the type of ssd must also be the same as the original. Friends say it's like we ride a BMW, spare parts are replaced by LOWEST part , let alone use a converter. Then, if we replace the SSD, the one that appears in our storage is not FLASH STORAGE but SSD, is there really a difference that can cause occasional errors? Then the final question, if the SSD is replaced, the OS is upgraded, can it ERROR and die. Is there something natural about it? Thanks for the answers to some of the questions above. I hope this channel will be more successful

    • @rick_terscale1111
      @rick_terscale1111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Percy... if you're still wondering, both the 1TB and 2TB are fine.
      I believe the 1TB Crucial drive has faster read/write speeds too.
      I'm still researching all of this but I'm opting for the 500GB drive featured in this video only as it's much cheaper.

    • @r0ckz
      @r0ckz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rick_terscale1111 one issue with these Crucial drives now is that they degraded the components inside that drive recently. Same as how some other brands like WD did it with some models. Also, heat is a big concern with this type of drives in general, meaning your Macbook will run noticably warmer. The basic rule with NVMe drives is that speed comes with heat.
      I've tried a few. Samsung NVMes ran the hottest but still seemed to keep their speed. Crucial ones, WD ones and Kingston ones I have (especially used the Kingston A2000 for some time), they ran pretty hot too but not as hot as the Samsung. They seem to throttle if your doing very heavy tasks and they get really hot though. Even when you're basically doing nothing, they all run "warm".
      The drive I'm using now is the Intel 660p, which is definitely the best option in terms of heat, there's very little difference with my original drive. However, it comes with the downside of QLC (which means slower speed when you start filling the drive, same for Crucial P2). The Intel is also noticably slower in general than most NVMe drives, running at SATA speeds. But from day-to-day use, you get the storage upgrade and casual users won't ever notice the difference in speed over time. And it makes sense, because like I said, the faster the drive is the more heat it will generate.

      As a best practice, you should disconnect the battery as well as press the power button for a second or two to fully discharge the system.

      Typical Apple, I hate that their products are so good otherwise nobody would buy anything from these shysters. In their new MacBooks every time you open an app that information goes straight to an Apple server while at the same time they claim they are so concerned with your privacy and you cannot turn this off. Using the privacy argument they wont allow the right to repair or have your own devices repaired by a third party, again shysters.
