I use to play Yamato 1:48. Today I finally bough my 1st Bandai DX 1:48 but in Maximilian J. version. This is the best vf1 so far i've seen in the macross / robotech toys' history
I have the gold variant and yes, it really is as bad ass as it seems. If you can manage to get your hands on one my suggestion is to do it! Yeah their price point is getting higher than the original msrp of $138.00 but it's only going to increase in value.
I'll say this: as someone whose experience is mostly with the old Takatoku/Bandai 1/48 line, what they lack in articulation and detail, they make up for in that they are easily transformable between modes. This looks really great, but it also looks like the kind of toy that you pick what mode you're going to display it in and you leave it there, because transforming it looks like a complete pain.
A great demonstration of this famous Robotech toy. A great video brother. Robotech forever. I was a F-14 A/B/D Aviation Electrician in the US Navy for 20 years. Robotech was a childhood inspiration.
it's Macross, not robotech, ffs. What you got there in the US is an unlicensed bootleg crap splice made from 3 unrelated anime tv series. Even the author himself said they didn't ask him about it
@@HaohmaruHLgood grief dude, even if it was true that robotech was in legal disputes with Macross.....how on earth would a kid, outside Japan, in 1985, even know that? And even if he did, should he get all snobbish about it, refuse to watch the coolest cartoon he'd ever seen in his 10 years of life and demand that his parents fly to Japan & tape the original Tatsunoko Macross on vhs? In a language he wouldn't understand? And besides that (admittedly ridiculous scenario i created), if the Harmony Gold Robotech inspired OP to successfully become a Navy aircraft technician & then he actually got to work on F-14 Tomcats with real life swing wings.....that's such a freaking awesome story! Just congratulate him & leave out the complex legal IP squabbles of two corporate conglomerates.
@paulmarsdensr1095 wow dude! That's such a freaking fantastic story! And that you actually ended up working on Tomcats with real life swing wings is just too cool! Was the Jolly Rogers squadron around then? If I'm remembering correctly of course, but their insignia always reminded me of Skull Squadron....as a kid I always imagined one was based on the other, and could never decide on which I thought was the original! Obviously that was when I had a child's imagination and being pre-internet all my real information came from two library books on US fighter jets! (I apologise in advance if I don't reply, but youtube recently seems to be messing around with my notifications and I barely get any about comments.)
This was like a 50 step Chinese puzzle box. Cool toy though. Miss those days when they made toys like this. It's amazing how they made it look just like the cartoon in both modes. That is just amazing!
I love they idea to disconnect the leg swing bar to get the waste back. But man the should have done a set of stub wings to really take advantage of it like on the Hi-metals.
While this is absolutely amazing to figure out how to design this kind of stuff, I only seem to wind up here at ungodly hours of the morning and I should not be trying to comprehend this at 5 am, will add to favorites to keep a better access to it, will I remember I put it there, who knows
The older Bandai 1/55 have the most simple, but effective transformations imho. I wish they would just improve in the old designs, add more details and articulation instead of making it too complicated.
Sadly, I've had some shipping issues with that one so I don't actually have it yet... it's going to take a little longer before I get a video together for it.
This is a transformation guide. What you are looking for is my review. That will be up later this week. In the meantime, you can find the content for the video review on anymoon.com in my article.
It isn't obvious from this video because all the necessary fussing about, but watch carefully and you can see how the actual Valkyrie must change modes like snapping open a "balisong" or butterfly knife -- kaCHINGGG!!! But what I love best is how practical the whole design feels -- you can drop into Gerwalk mode, scoot for cover, and then finish turning into a Battroid
Man, I love your reviews and I use them when deciding to buy a Macross toy. That said, have you consider reviewing the many Macross books out there like the Variable Fighter Master Files?
Thank you! I don't have much of a Macross library so, right now, I don't think I'd be a great judge of the content but if that changes I'll certainly consider it.
I still have my Sentinels original manual played Robotech Role play when it 1st came out. I do not ever remember seeing those names for the modes even in Japanese versions of all the original anime. I knew them as your normal Jet Mode, Guardian Mode and Battleoid. Can i ask how those names you used came about?
Hi, all good? Thanks for the great review. Got this amazing toy but I don’t care much about the disconnect/waist swivel gimmick. And it kinda start disconnecting during transformation. Considering to superglue the bar and disconnect mechanism. You this is that alright or can that spoil the toy?
Thanks for the heads-up on the music, I'll dial it back a bit. No announcements yet on the next release but one would imagine we'll hear something soon.
Hi! 2 Questions: 1)Is there chance of getting a comparision of this bandai model vs any other 1/48 from yamato? 2)Do you think bandai releases a whole new 1/48 set of Macross valkyries? Let's say the VF1S, VF1A, VF1D Etc,Etc ( By the way,...This Vf1J is already out if Stock 😭)
Hey Scorched Earth, maybe you can answer a question for me. When this was first released for preorder, was the price lower? The preorder was sold out before I knew it was available, but the sites I looked at had it listed at...$190? Somewhere around there. I know bandai's preorders change in price. For example, when the VF-4 was first released for preorder, it was $120. Then it jumped up to $140 or something after a day or two. I would have totally bought this for sub $200. Did I just miss the good price?
Bandai provides an MSRP and the retailers sell their initial batch of preorders at a price that's generally close to MSRP, with some discount (each retailer is different, and if they think a toy isn't going to sell well they provide a larger discount). After the first batch of preorders, some retailers have a second batch they sell at no discount or even a mark-up. After the toy is released, if they have more stock and it's a hot item, some retailers mark it up even further while others just liquidate all their inventory at MSRP. Of course, if no one buys the toy at MSRP they will mark it down a couple months later to a sale price. Since this toy sold out in the preorder window, you're now going to have to pay a mark-up or wait for a reissue.
Is there anything preventing you from "perfect" transforming the legs, connecting them to the waist piece, and then separate the bar and fold it away? Like can you have perfect transformation and swivel, or do you 100% need to remove the legs and finish the torso first?
In theory, I think it's possible but I'll test it on my next time through and let you know. In reality, it's very unlikely that the toy won't become two separate parts at some point in transformation.
Yes you can achieve perfect transformation and still be able to disconnect the bar from the hips. Depending on how solid the latch is that connects the bar, it might be easy or difficult to do. Mine is difficult as my latch is solid and needs a pry tool to open it up. Basically once the legs are pegged into the cockpit, you disconnect the bar. Then proceed to disconnect the back so you can fold the bar away.
Can you show how to attach the VF-1J to the base it comes with (not the exclusive one) in Gerwalk mode? I'm not sure if the adapter is suppose to tab into the holes next the head lasers or just sit over them.
Both the fighter and GERWALK adapters have pegs on the adapter that actually tab into the holes. You have to angle them a bit and press in with a fair amount of pressure but it should be quite secure. I might cover this in my video review but if not, hopefully this helps.
Where is essentially irrelevant because you just have to get it wherever you possibly can. WHEN is the key, you have to know exactly the time it goes on sell and then hunt any import website you can to try to grab one in the 5 minutes or so orders are open. I usually learn about pre-order times from macrossworld.com where folks are viewing Japanese trade magazines and tamashii.jp.
You know how nobody knows what the Antikythera device is actually for.? Well in a couple of thousand years archeologists weill be scratching their heads over one of these.!
they are better but i personally prefer the arcadia version as they are more enjoyable to handle and transform and swoosh around. These bandai DX's to me are a transform into your favorite mode and display on a shelf or glass display cabinet

This is by far the best VF-1J I've seen in awhile. Bandai realized they didn't need to reinvent the wheel with the transformation
I use to play Yamato 1:48. Today I finally bough my 1st Bandai DX 1:48 but in Maximilian J. version. This is the best vf1 so far i've seen in the macross / robotech toys' history

Whomever developed this entire transforming Veritech is a damn genius.
Wow! That transformation is a lot more complex than the process than what I need on the Bandai VF-1 I bought back in 1986.
That sounds like the one I have. It's sitting on my shelf in plane mode with its wheels deployed for taxiing.

The show MACROSS was literally my childhood and my first anime i watched. Would really like this one but they are expensive af.
400$ lol
I also have this VF-1J Valkyrie, but I never transformed it. Today, I already finished the transformation. Thanks a lot, you save my mission 😁
This was like a 50 step Chinese puzzle box. Cool toy though. Miss those days when they made toys like this. It's amazing how they made it look just like the cartoon in both modes. That is just amazing!
When I was a kid, I had a transformers toy of jet fire but it was a macross vf-1..majority metal too..my favorite toy ever.
This is far better proportions than the one I had in the 90s. Though mine had alot more metal parts.
That was the best video by far of how to transform the toy, thank you!
A thousand thumbs up! Such a great tutorial on the transformation process.
I remember having a smaller one when I was little. It was made of dense plastic and metal.
Always like your toys reviews n website full article...mine was just arrived! Absolutely a best VF-1 toys so far, glad i can own it!
Very nice review and detailed transformation. Your full review on your website is amazingly detailed. Thanks for sharing!
Estoy seguro que el que creo este juguete fue un maestro de la robotecnologia
that toy gives me Jetfire vibes
I love they idea to disconnect the leg swing bar to get the waste back. But man the should have done a set of stub wings to really take advantage of it like on the Hi-metals.
That flimsy leg-to-torso connection really, absolutely looks more scary than a horror movie.
Excellent video. Struggling to transform back to fighter mode! but watching it a second time did help! You do say Like so waaaay too much. :)
Will you make a transformation guide from battroid to fighter?
Oh my god. This saved me so much time. Thank you so much.

Dang. So much activity. It's awesome!
I viewed robotech when it 1st aired.
At the time, it was the top in animation.
Any plans on making a battroid to gerwalk to fighter transformation guide? I always use your vids for transformation guides
Will do! I was going to review the Angelbirds, GBP, and VF-1D so I'll do a B to F guide while I have those out.
Rocket scientists do exist! This thing is crazy! Badass!
I had the Blue 3rd gen "Robotech" fighter. I traded it for a leather jacket as a child... I've been regretting that mistake for 25 years, lol.
I had the Transformer Jetfire... basically a total copy of the vf-1
5:53 *Blink* HOLY SHIT! HOLY SHIT! Holy Shit! The heat shield is part of the assembly!!! I did not know that!!! Holy Epic Fuck!!!
The older Bandai 1/55 have the most simple, but effective transformations imho.
I wish they would just improve in the old designs, add more details and articulation
instead of making it too complicated.
Lol transformation of the new toys reminds me of having an affair handling a kingcrab meal.
The video for Max is in progress i believe😍
Sadly, I've had some shipping issues with that one so I don't actually have it yet... it's going to take a little longer before I get a video together for it.
This is so sad...and I am looking forward to watch yours😉😉😉
Just a quick suggestion for the next one, can you show the box they come in along with any accessories and literature that's included.

Similar to the transformers auto bots jet fire. I remember as a kid they were Almost the same with the boosters and armor.

That's a VERY familiar transformation.
I'd love to have bought one, but they aren't worth a kidney.
Friend: Awesome! can you show me how it transforms?
me: no. I cannot
right from the starts all the VF-1 Fighter were tend to break apart. Especially the arms.
Great work as always!
Gaurdian mode +battloid mode+fighter mode
That thing looks awesome, but holy crap!
That’s a complicated operation.
😰
Have any of the VF toys ever tried different ways of transforming into battroid that wasn't so finicky with the legs?
This looks dope as hell
I don't remember Jet Fire being this complicated to transform.
So, how much more of a pain is this than the original Takatoku version?
Like going from a 10 piece puzzle to a 50 piece. Still easy, but definitely more complex.
I wouldn't risk it, it's only an issue during a few steps of transformation and can be ignored otherwise.
Jetfire is that you?
Bandai DX VF-1 be consider a Rick Hunter Veritech?
Very nice figure, Happy New year! 🎈🎉☮️
thats a little different from my jetfire/skyfire of the 80s
Is the paint job good enough to be in a display case?
This is lastest VF-1 released last year right? Looks so awesome!
This original is so much better than the Transformers JETFIRE I had
Hm, how many times would you be able to do this transformation before this model breaks...
For the $350.00 that this model cost, it had better not break!
That's cool but I still like the transformable toy I have from the 80s.
My childhood😭 i want 1
why did the US or Japan doesn't build something like this?
I would have loved this as a 12 year old watching Robotech Macross saga.
This is from Macross animation correct?
Great video!
no robotech
Lmao
@@davidficca8963 lololol you are so funny!
Great video! So I just ordered the Bandai DX 1/48 VF-1S Movie Edition figure. Will this transformation guide apply to the VF-1S too?
Yes, there are only minor cosmetic differences, you should be all set!
Awesome! Thanks for the quick response.
Awesome classic ☺️
Music intro is super loud. Take it down to about 50%.
Great looking model! Is their a Fokker edition coming soon?

Too bad Takara couldn’t have engineered this. I’m sure they could’ve streamlined the transformation process a bit better
Looks very fragile but moveable. The original Jet Fighter toy looks more sturdy.
