The reprise on this theme during the One Year War flashback in the final Gundam Unicorn OVA gave me so many feels I had to come back and listen to this again
First time I heard it I knew I heard this song before and could not for the life of me remember where in the Gundam franchise I had heard it. So glad to finally connect the dots.
“Why did I have to meet you?” These were her words to the one she was meant to be with, but she dedicated her life to her captain. Such a terrible fate, but at least she can see Time.
The music in the original Gundam movies, but especially the third one, really is some of the best there is. The music really is the cherry on top of the sundae of superb storytelling, excellent characterization and authentic depictions of the horrors of war that is Mobile Suit Gundam.
I'll never forget, after waiting for ages for a gundam game to come to America after Toonami aired the UC series for the first time, playing Federation vs. Zeon's Arcade Mode. I've always loved Zeon, but there was such a superb sadness that was elicited by this song combined with the ending cinematic of completing Zeon's arcade route. Zaku's fleeing to axis, soldiers grappling to lines attached to them, disappearing into the void of space. It was something else
When you talk about sorrow, personally I think Z gundam is the most sad chapter of ALL gundam stories. When I first time see four give up her memories to help Kamille to go back to the space, I finally understand what love really is : It is to sacrifice yourself for your loved one, no matter how great it is.
Talking about irony. I encountered this song for the first time when I completed the arcade Gundam game Feberation vs Zeon. It is named “The Beginning”, yet, it was placed at the end of the game when the credit is rolling. Maybe that is to say that it is the beginning of a new era after the end of war........
The reprise/re-composition of this song at the very end of unicorn is supremely powerful. All of the UC comes full circle and brought to a beautiful end. It amazingly makes this moment in Gundam III retroactively more amazing too. Not that it needed much help... one of my very favorite moments in the whole franchise.
Indeed the Universal Century is cyclical in it's history of peace, violence, stability and upheaval. Granted some Gundam fans shy away from the Universal Century because of it's bleakness and depressing nature, however in doing so, they are trying to shy away from reality as well. Much like real life, our world's history is cyclical with periods of peace, violence, stability and upheaval. In that sense Tomino is playing out the world's history before us and poses the question; "Can Mankind Learn and Truly Find Peace?" And just like the ending of Unicorn where the spirits of Amuro and Lalah try to assure Char, Amuro tells Char that they have to leave the course of time to those who come after them.
I'm Nubby I won't say you're wrong because that's your opinion. But i will say you are missing out on a lot of good stories just because you're putting your opinion of UC first.
I tried watching some outside of UC such as SEED, 00, and even build fighters but they just weren't appealing to me. Not sure what it is about them but my attention just wasn't caught like it was with 0079, 08th MS team, and war in the pocket.
00 was good, and Seed was alright at first. But it turned into a drama fest that put too much attention on relationships. Wing is pretty great, though I still have to try Build and Age. You should try IBO, it's arguably the best Gundam outside UC. Solid writing with lots of ups, downs and emotions.

It was "real SF" in the literary sense: the world itself being fundamentally changed by the end of the story, with no way for things to continue on as they had been and humanity taking a new path yet to be imagined, as we see the three kids remotely view Amuro's core fighter making its way out of A Bao A Qu, creating this wonderfully ambivalent feeling of triumph that simultaneously alienates us from the world those kids are going to go on to create. but oops i guess not here are some sequels pew pew I love all the side stories set around the One Year War, they're awesome and exciting and gave us all kinds of great characters like Cima Garahau, but for the reasons I mentioned, I just can't muster the enthusiasm for anything in the UC continuity after maybe Char's Counterattack.

この歌が、宇宙を温めるのでしょう?
見える…僕にも時が見える!!
ユニコーン観てる時に流れて泣いた
This song makes me feel
Indeed. I just linked it to a buddy with the disclaimer, "Caution: feels"
どのアクション系ガンダムゲームか忘れたけど、このBGMの下でプレイしてると、
「もはや愛する人も居ないのに、何のために戦ってるのか」感がきつい……。
@UCNxYzxNx84Sxip_zIyoi3ewさん、 それだ!!
The ending song is Meguriai, this plays after Amuro kills Lalah
LALAH DIES???????
PrimusVsUnicron Also plays when she's *introduced* in something that isn't the English TV Series. Or at least it does in the Japanese version...
How do you not know that Lalah dies at this point. 0079 was finished in 1980
;)
PrimusVsUnicron isn't this also the song that plays just after Char and Amuro face of at A Boa Qu. I'm pretty sure the main verse plays as Armuro drifts through space were the remaining crew of the White Base evacuate on those life rafts.
And the start plays as Char pukls of the galaxy's greatest headshot ever.
Lyrics.
Farewell the temple master's bells
His kiosk and his black worm seed
Courtship solely of his word
With Eden guaranteed
For now Prince Rupert's tears of glass
Make saffron sabbath eyelids bleed
Scar the sacred tablet wax
On which the Lizards feed
Wake your reason's hollow vote
Wear your blizzard season coat
Burn a bridge and burn a boat
Stake a Lizard by the throat
@@赤ジャンパー The song is a kind of a rip-off of Lizard by King Crimson, so that's why he puts these lyrics here.
Imagine being Japanese and you thought the lyrics were weird for the anime lol.
ほんとDaisukeやわ
ロンベル提督 ガンダムのこと!
大好き!
大好き!
Daisuke!
Fuck, I really thought I preferred the TV version of this story, but the music in this god damn movie is SO good that it almost makes me prefer the movie trilogy by default.
