A lot of times when a player's form has dropped, from what I have seen and experienced, is from weight gain. doesn't matter if its fat, muscle etc.. Even if its only 10lbs, I can speak from experience and say that it makes a drastic difference. A player has a specific playstyle but their joints just can’t handle that playstyle whenever weight gain is involved. Which ultimately leads to either injury or lack of performance. Prime examples are: Lukaku, Neymar, hazard, bale. And ME. I gained 20lbs of muscle and couldn't play as agile as i used to, gained many joint injuries on my right ankle, knee, and hip. and they went away once i dropped back down 20lbs or so. And my friend, who didn't get hurt but dropped back down 10 pounds his original weight and found his amazing form again. The only ways to overcome this IMO are: 1. Change your playstyle, and hope you find some new improvement. (Ronaldo and Messi being prime examples.) 2. Drop back to the weight where your form was the best. Of course there are always exceptions to what Im saying, some players will gain weight and still play fantastic, but its not the case for everyone.
Given his recent drop off and struggles at Manchester United many people have forgotten just how good Jadon Sancho was when he was at Borussia Dortmund scoring goals creating chances getting assists completing wonderful dribbles and he just passed the eye test. Many can say oh he did it in Bundesliga but the reality is there are certain players who go to the premier league from the Bundesliga and flop attackers such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as well and some that do well like Erling Haaland Pierre Emerick Aubameyang Heung Min Son and Kevin De Bruyne. Jadon Sancho’s struggles at Manchester United have nothing to do with his inability to play in the Premier League due to the fact that he was a player who came from Bundesliga it’s just not true. When has an expensive player really done well at Manchester United and how many of them have either improved or gotten worse in the last 10 years. Not a lot he’s a player who’s on the wrong team in the wrong era and he needs a proper environment to thrive like he did at Borussia Dortmund. It seem unlikely that he’ll recapture his best form as a Manchester United player you would think he’s still very young since he’s 23 with a lot of time but not really as the only way he somehow manages to reignite his career and returns to his best is by leaving Manchester United at this point.

You're 100% right. I gained 20kg and I tore both my knees. I wasn't very injury prone when I was lighterweight.
