I am in construction and 90% are bought to rent out. The current site all 80+ units going for 450k+ one person bought. The builder calls them investors but I know it is Blackrock and entities like them. Since Covid the homes went from 250k-300k now pushing 500k. The workers are being enslaved and most don't see it. Millions of dollars in profit but then end up receiving a very business altering 100k fine... And that 10% loss in profits is definitely enough to force the business to start following the law

Back in the 90’s one of them told me which realtor he went to to buy his house. He said they won’t even ask for a social security number to run my credit. When I went in, the first thing they asked my for was my SSN. It even said on their door, “We don’t check your credit.” I asked the lady why she was checking my credit, she said I didn’t qualify (she only knew my name).

I drive a school bus in Michigan and I can tell you that in the last 2 years I have seen 6 families from over the Mexico border move into my route area. And one of the houses that one of the families moved into, wasn't in living conditions for years it was nothing but an old run down farm house. But two years ago some work men showed up put some new windows in and slapped up some brand new siding and gutted the inside and pretty much turned it into a brand new house in a year and then the Mexican family moved in and was added to my route. I am in construction and 90% are bought to rent out. The current site all 80+ units going for 450k+ one person bought. The builder calls them investors but I know it is Blackrock and entities like them. Since Covid the homes went from 250k-300k now pushing 500k. The workers are being enslaved and most don't see it. My wages have not gone up but wverything else has. In construction it is cut throat to get work and you price each other out of profit jist to find work.
Apropos of nothing: during an intro to film class we had a discussion on the social importance of film and its ability to instigate change. I began to break down every aspect of what goes into a film, the camera lens, the wood processing, each component of the camera, the wiring, the lighting and pointing out the human right violations that are necessary to people in other parts of the world for each and every aspect of everything in our lifestyle from 1982 till today taking away any ability for a movie to have a positive social impact (since slavery and abuse are inherent in to processing of raw materials), once I got to the divorce rates of truck drivers delivering materials for film sets I deleted the thing and thought maybe I was missing the point.
