Sports cars aren't exactly profitable... Toyota had to compromise somewhere to get the GR86 and GR Supra and keep them so what affordable. A partnership was needed to make those two a reality. It's not like other companies aren't collaborating these days to make cars... Also if you want a sports car from Toyota, just get a GR Corolla or a GR Yaris. The MR2 has already been teased or rumored to be the FT-SE, and S-FR has already been confirmed to be produced to compete with the MX-5.
