Yes, SHF are expensive, but the slow pace of releases helps to soften the blow. Also, I've picked up quite a few SHF star wars from Mandarake in the $25 - $35 range. At the end of the day, I never feel buyer's remorse when I open up a new SHF figure; couldn't say that about hasbro black series.
That comment on filling up the car's gas tank...it really resonated. I had that same conversation with myself when was hovering over the "place order button" on some shf star wars
Great video, I love any discussion on SHF Star Wars. 2017 was the greatest SHF Star Wars year. We got TFA Kylo Ren, ANH Han, ANH Chewbacca, AOTC Anakin, AOTC Padme, ANH R2, ANH C-3PO, Qui-Gon Jinn, TLJ Phasma, TLJ Rey, TLJ Kylo Ren, First Order Stormtrooper, 3 Praetorian Guards, 4 BB units. This year has just been sad.
I stopped collecting Star Wars toys a _loooong_ time ago. I also only collect higher-end figures. I did, however, buy the Black Series Second Sister - because she looks awesome. But she is easily the least impressive figure in my collection. For all the reasons you listed: joints, quality of materials, posability and general reliability. I really liked your comment on US collector's reluctance to buy higher-end figures. There really are only a few collectors who exclusively buy only SHF, Figma, 1000Toys, Sentinel, Mezco etc. and many of them feel the pressure to buy Hasbro or even McFarlane toys because of the community. _I do think though_ that Mezco's recent success, and now Mafex making headway in the market, many more collectors are finding themselves willing to cop that extra cost for a higher-quality figure. I wonder if this will impact on SHF's Star Wars line? Thank you for the video, entertaining and informative, but you kept it on-topic.
I just recently started collecting 6 inch scale S.W. I am mostly doing B.S., but I'm definitely considering S.H.F. for some characters. Thanks for such a close look.
A new trend in Japan is the Figuarts prices rising. Makes me consider buying increasing numbers of Black Series and shipping them here. Faces and thigh cuts were my two major points to consider, and Hasbro has made huge strides in those areas with minimal price increases if any.
I'm liking this saucy new outro you've got going on. Great video as always Bobby, it's nice to know the history of these companies without having to dig through any forums
I still remember the first Black Series I purchased. I found Captain Phasma on clearance for under $10. I was hooked. I figured if I enjoye that figure as much as I did, for a character I didn't care that much about, it was something to look into. Now I have about 80% of the Black Series releases, and 95% of the figuarts, with a few Mafex. Talk about a slippery slope.
Just a rather unrelated comment, I wish SHF released LOTR lines. I am really impressed w/ the star wars ones(especially sculpt and articulation) and I'm convinced they would do well with the LOTR ones
I'm so sad I missed all the figures and started collecting just recently. Some of them are just beyond too expensive like Padme or Qui Gon. I hope that someday they will rerelease them.
Never been happier in my life than when I sold off all my SHF SWs because the line just moved too slow for me. The improvements in BS didn't hurt either. I love SHF smooth joints and articulation, but most BS aren't plagued with the Royal Guards gummy knee disease. And I don't play with my figures, so as long as I can pose them permanently in my detolfs I'm happy. The only SWs SHF I held onto were my Boba and Jango Fett. I still have my SHF/Mafex DC Batman figures because "I'm Batman" lol, and DC Multiverse aren't even in the conversation when it comes to competition. Loved the video 🙏
I can’t collect Black Series, I tried but on hand they are not in the same world. When you set back on a shelf they can blend with SHF. You said it the joints are a big issue not only for the movement but because they make the figure look more natural and that is the beauty of SHF and plastic quality. Hasbro with those thigh cuts and waist cut are ugly and not effective anymore. With GIjoe they are going in the right direction but not there yet.
If Hasbro releases a SW character I'll get it as a place holder. But as soon as S.H.F or Mafex releases that character, I'm selling the Hasbro one ASAP. And replacing it with the S.H.F or Mafex. Anyone else do this???
I have a fair number of Figuarts and Black Series. I used to buy the Figuarts human characters (I have the whole gang from A New Hope for example) for the facial likeness or figures primarily, or for chsracters that I love where Hasbro totally effed the figure up (R2-D2 is IMO opinion nearly a perfect Figuarts figure - and absolutely terrible Black Series (under sized, wrong proportions, terrible decision to make accessories snap on's instead of integrated which they were able to do even back in Kenner's day!). Troopers and aliens in general looked good enough in Black Series that, as you say, couldnt be passed up for a mere $20. Now with Hasbro face print tech and seemingly realizing fans CARE what the figures look like, it has become harder to say which figure version I'll buy. Hasbro Mace Windu looks as good as his Figuarts version and Hasbro Count Dooku IMO looks better than Figuarts (and love the gimmick swooshing lightsaber!). Then there's some figures that Mafex does best - Boba Fett isn't even close, Mafex version istop notch for both ESB and ROTJ and apparently the Mandalorian looks better too! Was all set to order Figuarts Mando until I saw him in reviews...that tiny helmet is just wrong and is better proportionally on Hasbro BS! I do still, have IG-11 from Figuarts on preorder as that's yet another figure Hasbro apparently hired a farsighted sculptor for who made him flimsy and way underscaled (IG88 was the Black Series basis of course, you know what I mean where Figuarts looks to be perfection like R2!). As long as the quality is excellent, and the alternative is lame I'll certainly get the Figuarts for my favorites. Whatever that case, competition means we the fans will ultimately be the winner with choices!!! Great video, awesome info and research!!!

I’ve got ROTJ Luke, TLJ Rey, and AOTC Yoda. I hope to get more like ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan, TROS Kylo Ren, and even Chewbacca.
5:26 is exactly why I can’t collect hasbro stuff. I just can’t get over the way the joints work.

Do you think they will re release the prequel figures?
They're re-releasing ROTS Anakin so there's a chance Obi-Wan could be re-released.
Has the Black Series made a Force Projection Crait Luke in six inch? That is the only figure I can possibly think of
That Hasbro Rey....yikes....I’m going with SHF one

Bobby "loves Dragon Ball Z" Face.
Idk why y'all keep talking about the "Figurarts" line. Bobby is clearly referring to the "FIGUATS" line. 😂
You know, I probably should have watched it first to see if he said something about it. If he did now I just look like even MORE of an ass. 😵
You guys see the new Black Series “Ahsoka Tano Rebels)?” Head sculpt and facial expression are terrible IMO.
Hi, im a huge SHF fan. I wouldnt buy a BS
