DIVA DARINA - Darina Konstantinova. Born in Ukraine on November 1, 1996. The prize-holder
and champion of numerous contests not only in her home country, but also of many leading
international festivals. She began training her first workshops at the young age of 14. What's
important to mention, is that Darina is the real professional, in fact she holds a degree in
physiotherapy and rehabilitology. Darina is also the creator of her famous DIVA STYLE and the unique oriental dance teaching system, based on techniques of safe usage of muscles and
joints. Currently she is one of the world's leading teachers, working at the most prestigious
international festivals. As a guest star and oriental dance guru Darina has already visited 36

Beautiful performance and stunning costume. Musicality is lovely, yet I am bothered that no one seems to teach dancers not to run their palms over their bodies during this dance. It means to many ethnic audience members that the dancer is for sale and/or that any part she touches, they can also touch.

Alma Bellydance Depending on the age group of the audience member, Egyptians, Saudi Arabians, Syrians, Lebanese, Turks, any culture you borrow this dance from.
While many younger audience members might not think this way, it is often given as a subtle sign that anything touched by the palm of the hand can be bought. Especially running your hands over your hips or chest. My teachers told me this, ethnic audience members confirmed it.
***** Thanks Goodness we live in the era of youtube and one can borrow whatever one likes and even improve upon it. What you say must be true I'm not questioning it but I dislike this notion of seeing dancers as pieces of flesh to be bought. And for what I've noticed so far belly dance is underrated. If it's always associated with the dancer being up for trade and touching this is no wonder at all. Still in spite of different ethnical traditional considerations one has to take into account the context, the place and the time this particular dance is taking place. We're living in another era not the ottoman era anymore when belly dancers mainly male were sold for sexual pleasures too
Alma Bellydance Actually, TH-cam does legitimate belly dance no favours. Any six week wonder can put up a video and claim they are a belly dancer, bad technique and all. That in itself is a disservice to the art, since that may be the first video anyone clicks on.
The fact that some people, no matter the culture, will always see any belly dancer as a piece of meat is not helped by dancers who refuse to learn cultural nuances (whether they bend them later or not). I've had FAR more American men try to grab me during performances where I was in the audience. And I've had far more Americans assume I was akin to a stripper than all the ME folks I've ever spoken with about dance.
We have to remember, we borrow this dance (and its culture) and then make it ours. If people don't learn the nuances, such as palming their hips and its subsequent meaning, members of that culture can hardly be blamed for thinking what they've been taught. It's like sign language ~ it's up to the user to do it properly.
