Andrew, your comment on the warmth between people in SA was one of the most important in this talk. As a SAican myself, much older than you are) I grew up with the vilification and contempt for us. My family worked entirely in medicine and education for the black community, spoke Zulu fluently and it is only now that the wheel has turned full circle. We SAicans have every reason to be proud of the ICC case and the survival of that bond of warmth, above all. I think it is critical to recognise that emerging out of fear (and its hatred) is probably strengthened by having survived the strife. Still hope in this darkest hour. Thanks for wonderful exchange with Roger and I am praying, praying that you win in Holborn and St Pancras on Thursday. Best of luck.

As a S.African you should know that Apartheid was a regime that excluded racial groups from their civil and human rights. All Israelis , Jews Muslims Druze ans Christians have equality under the law. Israel has 10 Muslim parliament members and a Muslim supreme court judge. These are not comparable with Apartheid

I wish I could vote there. My government, the Dutch one, puts me in the same situation. I am living in a country with a consistent row of hypocritical right wing governments. The new government will consist of 4 parties. One is the one who has been causing all sorts of damage for years and at last got clobbered for it in the last elections. The second one is rightwing populist. The third one is an anti-green farmers party ( The Netherlands have an extreme dung related water pollution problem), the 4 th, on which I voted myself, calls itself New Social Contract, which as it turns out might be a cynical joke after all. There where many claims they where never going to work together before the elections. In the end they all threw their principles out to form another strictly rightwing government against all costs. The new prime minister put forward has made his career being a spy boss. Can things get more creepy? Voting has become condoning a sick system which makes the democratic principles I believed in all my life a farce. Worldwide!

My Father suffered from Alzheimers for many years, which is why I find it easy to recognise the symptoms. There is no doubt in my mind, after observing Roger Waters interacting with interviewers and after listening to his painfully deficient monologues, that he is currently on the verge of advanced level Alzheimers! Which explains his rage attacks and depression, which are both classic symptoms and which Roger is blaming on Israels actions. Those who care about him should send him.asap to a specialist neurologist in this dementia disease!

I'm writing a solarpunk novel set in 2050, so I've spent a fair bit of time pondering how on earth can things work out with UK politics. I'm convinced after four dismal years of Labour, we'll need a coalition of independents, who (like Feinstein, Faiza Shaheen and Jeremy Corbyn) really represent their local area, with a progressive shared ecosocialist manifesto. Then they can bring in PR and break the system apart. Btw, my husband Patrick toured Roger around Rome years and years ago, and he gave us tickets when he played. Very decent guy.

That would involve Roger Waters actually mixing with real people rather than lecturing them from the safety of a stage in a huge stadium. He has less of a clue how 'working people' live than Rishi Sunak and how does voting for an obscure, far-left Independent candidate in Holborn and StPancras usher in a new era of empathy and equality?
Has he not noticed the shit the Tories have been serving up for 14 years? Surely the priority is that they get the boot, not Starmer? No of course he hasn't, he lives in luxury in America.
If he did a gig in a pub in London and spouted all that lixury beliefs, metropolitan liberal elite clap trap he would quite rightly get laughed off the stage by people who are justifiably more concerned with the cost of living, decline in services, mass immigration, the NHS and our useless political elites than they are about foreign conflicts.

I have a dear friend who’s been communicating with an Israeli whose kids are IDF soldiers. My friend keeps blaming everything on Hamas via her friend’s reports.
The blocking of the food and aid by Israel and subsequent famine is met with -
“It’s tragic that Hamas is blocking those trucks, and confiscating all the goods, and then selling them back to Palestinians for 4x the amount”
Well, friend, then why tf are the trucks just sitting there at the border that the IDF controls without going inside Gaza?!
It’s difficult because she’s my client as well and I love her…but she’s listening to her Israeli friend who’s buying all the propaganda and is listening to her brainwashed son and daughter soldiers, who are instructed to keep quiet about what they’re actually doing…and typically, they’re young immature teens who’ve been brainwashed since birth.

    Such a treat.
Uncle Roger was responsible for my very first awakenings to the notion of solidarity. All the motivated reasoning that decries his work as anti-Semitic completely ignores the origin of symbology from Animals to The Final Cut and beyond. The pig, especially, has always been very clear in its meaning, explicitly defined in Pigs (Three Different Ones), as the trifecta of state, industry and the pernicious effects of censorship. It's not remotely ambiguous.
Starmer, meanwhile, has never understood solidarity, has exactly zero understanding of human rights, and is quite probably the worst, most sociopolitically illiterate politician in my lifetime. Never thought I'd loathe anybody more than Thatcher, let alone that it would be the leader of the purportedly progressive party.
Wishing you all the best, Andrew. Wish I was in London, and I'd come and canvas for you.

      @AlanWarrenBelfastArchitect 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@rexiioper6920 Agree the left needs to be more strategic, but Farage and Galloway are personality based and if they retired nothing would remain. Greens are more interesting as they are building bases at council level to challenge in General elections. They are more likely to endure.
That said, I hope the Independents do well, and we should do what we can to help. Win or lose, every vote Feinstein, and others, take matters.
Post this election, there needs to be some serious discussions as to how to build a lasting movement. I think we should consider uniting around the Greens. They are a democratic organisation, policies and emphasis can be changed, local parties select candidates, and importantly they have the structures in place and National recognition. Why reinvent the wheel over often false perceptions of each other, a few current policy differences and often inflated egos. We are the true, pure left and all that.
