Hank, the simple truth is that the current tour players and the majority on the board love the tour as it is, bigger money than in the past and less competition. No way that they want the LIV players back for that reason. The only way that they agree to let LIV come back and reunite is if they are forced to do so by the event sponsors and TV networks informing them that they will no longer tolerate these watered down boring events. As for the 100 million to Tiger and 50 million to Rory, this is not real money. These are stock options vesting over 8 years based on a PGA tour value of 14 billion when the tour is worth less than 2 billion now as I understand it.

I think it's time people start thinking like adults and see things as they are and not what they wish it to be. Tours should stay separate and it's up to each tour to make its tour better to retain or attract golfers to it. Maybe get PIF to take over the European Tour and attempt to make it as good as it was back in the 80's and 90's...independent from the PGA! - LIV golfers have contracts. They can't just up and leave. If Golfer A got $100 mil for a 5-year contract and has only played 1 year, will he really pay back $80 mil to go play on the PGA tour? - The tours have different formats and LIV has a team element. - PGA made its bed when they accepted the SSG deal. How can anybody even expect Yasir to invest his "blood money" (what they called the PIF money) into PGA when LIV Golf is treated as it is? You can't have your bread buttered on both sides...PGA golfers made the decision to stay on PGA and now they should live with the consequences (and less money) or try to get a contract with LIV...easy as pie. - PGA has realized that their product is weaker without the top golfers that went to LIV. PGA has fewer viewers now. PGA won't be able to negotiate the same type of deals with advertisers, sponsors, and TV bosses now with those golfers not on their tour anymore. So they should also maybe start to accept that their role has diminished and beggars can't be choosers. The PGA needs LIV golfers....LIV doesn't need the PGA, LIV golfers just want to play in Majors. - LIV golfers can't just go and play on PGA events and the same goes for PGA golfers. The only thing in my mind that can happen is if the PGA and LIV negotiate events to be added in which the golfers from different tours can compete against each other. LIV golfers will not sign up to go play 30 to 40 weeks in a year again...just saying How: The Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup rotate. So I would suggest scrapping the Presidents Cup but not the team. Then you are left with the USA team, the European team, and the Presidents Cup team. Add a LIV team and the 4 teams can play against each other in a Ryder Cup-type tournament in a Round Robin at the end of the year to determine the winner. That would get enough viewers and push ratings. Maybe Yasir can be convinced to put up the money for such a tournament. - And lastly, the Majors should look at their criteria for invites. If the Majors can at least appear to be independent from PGA as they are supposed to be, and they invite the top 20/25 LIV golfers (excluding those with Major exemptions), the LIV fans might start supporting the majors again and this hate between the tours can start subsiding. The different tours should also have their own ranking system just like the PGA has the OWGR...and the Majors can use the tour's ranking to decide who they invite.

LIV was just supposed to be a few elevated events that PIF would foot the bill for. That's it. That's all it was supposed to be. And PGAT could run it. Instead, they issued a ban, no OWGR points and are sanctioning golf courses that host LIV events. IOW, PGAT went full nuclear. So PIF had to give large sums of money to get people to play in their events. Note that it's not an exclusive contract. It's only to guarantee they have players in their events. They can still play in PGAT or wherever else. Only reason they're not playing in PGAT is because of the ban by PGAT. Unfortunately I don't think anyone in LIV wants to go back anymore except for maybe a few PGAT events. PGAT and Monahan screwed things up big time and it's all their fault for everything that happened. Just get rid of the ban and everything goes back to normal.
Great sports needs rivalries to have huge success...Lakers vs Celtics, Cowboys vs Steelers, Federer vs Nidal, etc...where is that in the PGA today? You have Scheffler and no one else...
Why would they give Rory money in an amount right behind Tiger? Dude isn’t even relevant and hasn’t won a major in 10 years. Scottie is the face of the Tour. Morikawa has also been way more relevant. Same thing for Speith. Barely makes cuts anymore.

I think golf needs to be made more challenging at the professional level to make it entertaining again. Equipment has significantly narrowed the skill gap between professional players making it harder for superstars to arise. Also it has funneled every player into playing golf the same way, bomb and gouge, with no variety in play style and thus lack of variety in personality. It is generally boring to watch because everyone practically does the same thing on every hole. Give them multiple ways to win tournaments and test all skills required to play the game. The more challenging the sport becomes the fewer number of people that stand out which leads to the development of superstars. Then you will have your clash of superstars again and the occasional underdog stories that everyone loves, which brings back the entertainment value.
There's TOO much money in these sports so no one is really HUNGRY! They all feed at the trough so why would anyone feel the need to go out and light it up week after week to become the SUPERSTAR the PGA needs??
You can have LIV if you want to, but it’s a boring product that doesn’t make sense with this team idea. The sellout to the Saudi’s is the death knell of professional golf.
Funny you say that. I think the PGAT is extremely boring. TV coverage only shows a couple of players (most of whom have no personality), your favorite player may not make the cut, it takes all day, etc.
Golf ratings are down because Tiger is not Tiger anymore. He was the only golfer who got the non golf fan to watch. It’s not the pga and it’s not liv. Golf is back where it was before he came along.
First of all LIV is terrible who wants to watch a bunch of 40 year olds who could never win again on the PGA tour . The reason people are not watching is they know something bad is coming to America and golf is not as important anymore .
PGAT is dying slowly by a million cuts, LIV and the end of tiger being at the front (not to mention only wet fish wallpaper stars left in thomas, Homa, Cantlay, Scotty and co, great players but no personalities tiger had it all). Giving the players power in decision making, despite it making sense, ultimately is flawed as they are by their nature only concerned with their own lot, it is human nature (rory excluded they are not in it for the sport). LIV will continue to grow, Rory will go next. America is not the end of the universe and that was always the inevitable outcome of holding world golf to hostage, once someone had more money which is PIF, the foundations would crumble. I have completely stopped watching PGAT and only watch LIV and have become fully engaged in all aspect of the teams, the shot gun, the season points etc etc.... In truth if I had the choice of watching LIV or a major I would watch LIV, but I will still be watching the majors, but PGAT is firmly in sunset, I do enjoy watching LPGA. Also watch Asian tour elevated events and some of the scenic DP ones.
@@oahujuniorgolfassociationc6656 Agreed, the classic courses that pre date PGAT are awesome and need to be involved in any global tour, quail hollow as well, but beyond that many of the courses the PGAT play on are PGAT owned stadium courses that are flat boring and designed for bombing and chipping.

LIV has a greater variety of players, better ideas, better leadership, better announcers 🤷🤷🤷 Golf needs to follow every other sport and have a waiver wire. You are not playing well 🤔 you get released and a Asian tour, Latin American tour, Hogan/Nike/Korn Ferry guy gets called up. Trades are a part of the game now.
I am an avid golfer. The money grab by the players, taking money from the Saudi, which in my opinions, blood money. That is why the ratings are down. People are out golfing more than ever, and the ratings are down. Figure it out. It’s pretty simple.

Saudi investment fund definitely needs to add $ to their portfolio.
They only currently have $900,000,000,000 in cash.
They need just a wee bit more.
Scenic pga tour events also. Hilton head. Pebble. Riv. And a few others.
HH I always appreciate you speaking the truth. If we had more straight shooters in golf there would be less nonsense going on 😂 Boys crying around about not enough $
no music please go to a concert if you want that. Golf is good because of the traditions
Nothing wrong with music on the course you old dinosaur😅😅😅
Hank Haney turning into an old crass dude
Sorry Hank, but music on the course sounds terrible. It's like the house music playing at the gym which can destroy a workout. Peace and Quiet Sometimes.. Ahhh...
We listen to music now and then playing. Maybe it doesn’t work. But as least they r trying new things
strict DGE , i bet
I think the tour is just fine. I could care less that’s it’s down 25%. The fans sure showed up at Quail Hallow.
The PGA tour is fine and still highly profitable. Thousands of fans at every tournament still. Only the media keeps fabricating and exaggerating a problem.
Hank, if you had ever played as Ben Hogan did, you wouldn’t be shooting your mouth off.
Yet, u r listening
I'm going to echo other comments as I am 70 year old golfer who stopped watching the PGA during COVID years. I DO watch LIV. As long as Jay Monahan "leads" the PGA tour, I'll never return. He is a proven liar.
PGA tour players are interchangeable no names. JT, Spieth, Day, etc have all flamed out as they became wealthy family men. LIV has a greater variety of players, better ideas, better leadership, better announcers 🤷🤷🤷
Golf needs to follow every other sport and have a waiver wire. You are not playing well 🤔 you get released and a Asian tour, Latin American tour, Hogan/Nike/Korn Ferry guy gets called up. Trades are a part of the game now.
I guess anyone can get a podcast these days if this waste of time has one!
What a waste of 20 or 30 minutes
I am an avid golfer. The money grab by the players, taking money from the Saudi, which in my opinions, blood money. That is why the ratings are down. People are out golfing more than ever, and the ratings are down. Figure it out. It’s pretty simple.
Guys like you don't know what you are talking about. The PGA Tour has 38 sponsors that do business with Saudi Arabia. The PGA Tour also supports and owns the PGA Tour China. You don't say a word about that. All you is spew the typical blood money bullshit comment.
What is your definition of "blood money"? I hear that trope thrown around all the time, but I don't think anyone knows what they are talking about.
USA isn’t a moral nation
Went to Liv Adelaide was great .Watched AK and Rahm was really enjoyable whole setup making golf modern .But at same time pga good too 4round traditional golf is great too they should merge ⛳️🏌️
