    My great grandfather lived in a small community in the midwest in the early 1900's. His father, from whom he learned this skill, had immigrated from Europe. People would come from all over to have him read their faces. He would then tell them what minerals they were deficient in, they would take said minerals and their ills would go away.

      @ester wyman iridology maybe? He could have done iridology (reading the irises for health clues) but he read palor of skin, shiny or dull, splotches, ruddy, etc. Good question though. I'll have to see if I can find out.

    As a Native American I can guarantee you we do have herbs and teachings that no one unless part of the tribe will learn. We have lost no teachings!

    • @HerHealthyHome
      @HerHealthyHome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      She says we lost, she's not a Native American. I'm not sure she was saying that implying that Natives have lost their tradition, how would she know? I think she means that America has shifted its roots, from herbalism to pharmacology.

      I relisted to that part. She mentions near the beginning of that discussion that the Native Americans quit sharing their knowledge of herbs with the foreigners. I infer, therefore those methods have been lost outside of the Native American culture. Rightfully so.

    I have read that it often is not the herbs but the prayer that goes with it that does the healing. The plant is the object that people would believe in and recieve their own healing energy within. So yes herbs and prayer.

      If by synergy you mean the interactions of compounds within herbs that affect the body, a general knowledge of biochemistry would likely be of benefit. Familiarity of the relevant herbal monographs would also be of use, along with any publications by a highly regarded pharmacopoeia.

      +Gerri Balius In 1915, there were 12,000 Eclectic physicians and 14,000 Homeopathic physicians in practice. The Flexner report was published in 1910, financed by the Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations, with active assistance by the A.M.A, the self-proclaimed (and similarly supported) "National Board of Medical Examiners" was began shortly thereafter, and the Flexner-Carnegie-Rockefeller-A.M.A. intent of decreasing the number of both medical schools AND physicians (allopaths only) was begun. In 1915 there were 8 accredited Eclectic schools, 9 Homeopathic schools, 7 African-American-only schools and 3 women-only medical schools, all producing students that sat for the various state boards and that took the same tests as everyone else. By 1935, there remained only 1 Eclectic school, 2 homeopathic schools, 2 negro-only schools and NONE for women. The number of schools had been cut in half, the new physicians were virtually all white males, and the numbers of physicians dropped and their income rose...and they all migrated (it seems) to the cities. By 1940, ALL private medical schools had vanished and ONLY Standard Practice Medicine ("Allopaths") and the Flexner-modelled curriculum survived. Chiropractice and Osteopathy survived in shaky alternate universes, constantly hounded by a well-honed and experienced Inquisition. www.swsbm.com/Quarterlies/Quarterly.html

      +Gerri Balius “Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom.” ― Benjamin Rush

      +Gerri Balius When I took my Health Care Administration Class, and We studied/learned about the Standardization of Medicine along with the Flexner Report, NONE of the facts of who was pushed out, or the problems I see as obvious now were even happening, above were even mentioned. I think Einstein's quote can be edited to say, "Education is what one discovers was left out of what they learned in school."

      United States to use for our health and well-being, it makes no sense
      that we now natives of America would set our eyes upon other places in
      the world in hopes of health and well-being using alien plants.
