100 per cent right. Same problem in Superleague. Same problem in Rugby Union. Inconsistency. Generally a player will get suspended if the player they caught goes down, doesn't matter how hard/bad. Same kind of tackle and the player stays on the feet, they don't even get cited.

Gus is totally right here. If you start to reward guys falling to the ground (milking penalties), you’ll end up with a husk of a game.

To why soccer is loved by men who believe in manipulating the system to get a result. League is about men standing firm, playing fair & most of all about winning good spirits.

Let's go back and watch that Billy Slater shoulder charge again shall we.
Then compare it to what we just saw on the weekend.
I'd love someone to explain how Billys wasn't a shoulder charge and how he didn't get suspended for even a week yet these blokes get several.

Last Rugby union world cup was a shambles because of this issue. Record number of Yellow and red cards where issued, where even attacking players were sent off for accidental high contact with defenders (when defenders went high and came off 2nd best). This is were the NRL is heading if it continues down this path. What a joke!! They need to look and learn right now! Its important that players are protected, but this is just plain stupid and will wreck this game.

This is the reason the NRL has any struggles with spreading the game and keeping fans. I can't understand why a man who's aiming to tackle another man in a contact sport can be sanctioned for hitting another guy really hard (not in the head). Also, when player 1 falls down 3 feet and hits the arm of player 2 by pure accident, player 2 gets put on report for a head high tackle. However, if exactly the same thing happens except player 1's head hits the hip or knee of player 2, it's just an accident. I'm not advocating for harsher rules, I'm wondering where reasonable and sensible discretion of the late 90's and early 2000's has disappeared to. I understand that player welfare is incredibly important, but every player knows what the risks are. Penalising every playing who infringes upon a "by the book NRL rule" without recklessness or intent is not going to ever help this game.
What needs to be done is this- 1.Players who are involved in reckless or intentional behaviours that put another players health at risk should be penalised.
    2. Players who have suffered possible head injury should be assessed and treated accordingly.
3.Use of discretion and common sense at the level of the referee. If the referee makes an mistake (as every ref still does even with all of the new laws and rules), fans will talk about it for a bit and forget about it eventually. That's sport- HUMAN- People make mistakes.
Kids grow up being told to accept the refs decision and to move on. Why is it that we forget this when it comes to the NRL? The referees are going to make mistakes anyway. Why are we making this game so damn restrictive? Its starting to look like a dictionary when it should look like a half played Jenga stack. Why do we try and eliminate every single error with bunkers and pocket referees and slowly tightening rules that are ultimately destroying our game?
Anyway, we have this conversation every damn week and nothing is changing in the direction the fans want. Someone, please, pull your finger out and do some logical and useful.

Love the shoulder charge. This game's gone soft. As long as it doesn't hit the head, I don't see how it isn't a legal tackle tbh. This is a system where an effective tackle isn't rewarded because they want the speed of the game quicker, like a legs tackle. There is no wonder why wrestling and body tackling is the norm just to try and slow the player down.

"Are we going to start penalising head clashes"? The NRL already has, remember a couple of years ago when Dylan Napa was put on report for using his head as a weapon in tackles because it caused head clashes? He was told to change his tackling style or he would be put out of the game, he was also given heavy suspension. So this is already a reality in the NRL.

The biggest problem is the flavour of the month crackdowns. One week suddenly there's a million crushers on report, the following week it's contact with the head. The crushers didn't magically disappear the following week, they just narrow their vision down to one specific offense and let last weeks problem go.
It leaves fans and players confused, I've seen so many incorrect play the balls (not using the foot) this season, yet last season it was in vogue to penalise anything that wasn't to the letter of the law.
My suggestion to the Nrl is to cover all areas WELL. Don't attempt to be perfect in 1 area because everything else will be neglected and you'll be playing whack-a-mole with every possible charge/penalty/offense until this mess is fixed.

The bigger stronger man now has to cuddle the smaller guy to the ground. What have arms got to do with a forceful tackle? Arms wrap automatically with a tackle but if the ball carrier is too weak he will bounce away from the defender before the defender has a chance to wrap the arms. This is about as dum as when the refs penalised players for not touching the ball with their foot while playing the ball, a few years ago.

    • @crazyprayingmantis5596
      @crazyprayingmantis5596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The overarching problem Gus briefly touched on is a societal problem in general:
All institutions over time inevitably become increasingly risk averse, and in the political and social climate of today, the game's elite are attempting to eliminate anything where the media can claim the game is flippant towards safety (on the field) and accepts hooliganism (off the field). The end result is an overly fastitious, puritanical approach that becomes so black and white, and changes so frequently, the game's actual value begins declining. The irony is that, while whinging parents are a part of this, the biggest element are these journalists themselves, who target the NRL to such a great extent the decision makers up top feel it's necessary to react. You notice the journos were especially quiet when Gus and Gal, the former players, mentioned that these top dogs need resilience, to stop being so reactionary. A media-unresponse decision maker is the media's worst nightmare. They will gladly rip apart, out of context, any decision made, and it's high time these top dogs realise they are being played so the media can have a story to run with, and take the cheap shots. Given the media cycle is all of about three days, they just need to wait a few days until the journos find something shinier.

Latrell Mitchell charge, I'm fine with lashed out with his arm, hit in the head, 2-3 weeks. The sharks player, I think did get him high, but arm was attempted to wrap, not a shoulder charge. Maumalo should've been penalised with a shoulder charge, arm was tucked and was leading into it and not the other bloke who copped a head clash with the storm player. As for the Rava hit, arm was tucked and attempted to wrap as the impact happened, but was in low in a tackle position, not a shoulder charge. There's 4 things they should be looking at, 1) was the elbow extended enough for a wrap tackle 2) was there separation between elbow and body 3) was the player that committed the offence in an upright position, or in a low tackle position and 4) was the shoulder the first point of contact with the player

Ravalawa, Mitchell, talakai, pereira many more and somehow Angus crighton gets a pass and the Tariq sims high shot. There's clearly an agenda going on here.

Two prehistoric players from the dark ages. If these two don;t like or understand the rules move aside and let someone else do there job. MITCHELL kicks someone in the face but thats okay because the bloke was holding his leg. Are you serious. They have stuck there head in one scrum too many. Seek help
