I had that problem with a chuck and made a spacer to fit between the chuck and the headstock so that the chuck locked against the spacer before it reached the end of the spindle thread which then kept it square on the thread. Worth a try? Best Wishes, Brendan
Your problem is the mount bushing, not the chuck. My Nova 2 ran fine on my small lathe but when mounted onto the Powermatic, it was not true. The issue was not the chuck but the bushing. The chucks are fine.
For the life of me I have never understood why the wood turning community has never embraced some of the workholding tricks used in the metal working community. Not items like the 3 and 4 jaw chucks but the things such as 5C collets and expansion collets. At a show 6 years ago I asked the guy from Robust as we have similiar machining backrounds and what I got was is that such stuff is generally outside of their experience so they don't consider it

I have the second generation nova chuck, I sought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Mine does that same thing. Is it the chuck or the insert ?
