The Amazfit Bip S is the successor to the extremely popular Amazfit Bip, fitness tracker with a slick design and super long battery life.
The Bip S has been released with upgraded tracking features, new software and a better screen, but are these upgrades enough to compete with newer smartwatches?

I got tired of charging my apple watch every single night. i work in a hospital, so my life is not a routine go to bed at the same time everyday, i need a watch that works ON THE GO anytime, anywhere. So i need a watch that i can charge when I'm actually really free. So this watch is perfect. Been using it for 1 week and its perfect. I can reject non urgent calls when I'm attending patient by just tapping my watch, get notifications when needed, monitor my sleep pattern etc. The always-on display is just an extra. One thing i dislike is that theres no "seconds" display like Amazfit Bip, so i had to download a 3rd party watchface with seconds as i always need to measure patients pulse rate/breathing rate with my watch. and theres no 'grey' colored background on default, which wouldve works superb under the sunlight. Otherwise, im loving my Bip S on my wrist.

I have this watch and I like it, but I have to mention two problems. 1) specs say it has "22 hours GPS continuous working time". Nope - it runs out of memory (not battery!) after approx. 16 hours. 2) after approx. 13 hours of GPS recording (continuous or in separate activities) the GPS track goes off by several hundred meters (i.e. your location on the map will be in a forest instead of a road you were following). It other words, if you want to record a long activity, approx. 12 hours is max. You also have to delete history of your activities on the watch quite often - to not exceed a combined activities time of approx. 13 hours. Other than that it does everything as advertised.
Best value for money. The S has a very much improved Sony GPS chip. Many more hours tracking than the original Bip. I will be upgrading.

my bip s is probably one of the best purchases i have ever made as i don't like taking my watch off at night or want to have a watch that has to be charged as often as conventional smart watches. All i really wanted the watch for was for receiving/making sure i noticed notifications, and for that job it has performed perfectly.

I have the original Bip and for the price it's a great piece of kit, my only issue was with the companion app on the phone, it wasn't detailed enough and I didn't know who had access to the data.
The amazfit app is much better than mifit app and has been upgraded with much more info than it used to have
Not sure if anyone notice but the play button on this watch works as a Shutter button for my android phone though. So I can take group photo remotely from afar using this watch. Simply amazing. I hope its not a glitch. Dont want them to be removin this 'feature' in next software update.
Just like when you connect a wired earphone/headphone to your smartphone, you can snap a picture when in photo mode by simply pressing the play/pause button.
Can u please pair it with MI Fit App and let me know if it is pairing or not? My 3 year activity data in MI Fit App.. dont wanna switch to app..
Does this have to be tethered to a phone- for example can you go running with it- have your distance tracked and listen to music from it when you've left your phone home?
You didn't properly show how notification shows on arrival. Does it goes straight to the notification area? or you have vibration and then you need to go to the notification area? you just scrolled the notification area.

Nice accurate review - Just got mine a few days ago. Its not as functional as the old but still worn pebble i had (pebble screen became too corrupted), but i do like messages appearing on my wrist rather than take the phone out my pocket. I got it on line cheap £57! Was worried it wouldn't come after seeing poor reviews of the website but all good. I never want a watch that needs charging every night like an Apple. The always on display is a must for me too.

It's now March, 2022 and I got this Amazfit Bip S on Ebay new for $26, my first smartwatch. It sells on Amazon for $60, so quite the deal. The face of this is Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is very smooth and scratch resistant.
I have a skinny wrist and big watches aren't usually comfortable, but this is surprisingly comfortable, but not as weightless or comfortable as my $12 Casio MQ24 (a simple, thin analog quartz watch with no date). I knew one feature I would like on this might be the ability to stop and start a music player, and after a few hours of searching and trying, I finally got that configured and working, and it works even with Hoopla, the library app audiobook player I use. When I'm biking with earbuds listening to an audiobook, sometimes I'd like to stop or start the book, and this controls my Android phone without having to drag the phone out. But the step, heart, and sleep monitoring are all fascinating to me, and I love this watch.
This particular type of screen is terrific for bright sunlight when I'm out jogging or biking, in places where my cheap smartphone is barely visible. And the lift the wrist to turn on the light feature, when checked in the app, is useful.
I was never going to blow $300+ on an advanced smartwatch that will be worth $50 in a few years, and thought this would be a good introduction for me, and it is. In fact, this may be all I need or want. I'm glad I held off for years until the prices came down and they've worked some kinks out of these. The all-black one is very good looking.
Thanks for this. I'm planning to buy this, how's the GPS tracking, I know it wont be 100% accurate but is it on a decent level? And also, is the screen to small to properly see the basic features like time and other stuff?
Edit: Had another question, is the screen background purple/violet as shown in the video or can it be changed to black?
@@pannagas3983 The background is black. It has a selectable feature that you can have the light turn on when you raise and turn your wrist. There's a couple of free apps that have different watch faces you can select for it. Even in dim light, the time is visible, but dim on the screen. The reflective screen, in general, is amazing, especially in bright sunlight where the time is very visible in the brightest sunshine, when I can barely see anything on my phone.
I bicycle a lot and it is usually kind of hard to see my watch, but this one is easily visible without taking my hand off the handlebars.
I've read that the Bip S "lite" does not have GPS whereas the Bip S like I have, does. When you start an activity from a screen on the watch, like walking, running, biking, swimming, you click some things and it geolocates. At the end of your activity you hold the button down to stop or pause it, and it draws a GPS map.
Let's say you were hiking and your phone battery went dead. I'm not sure how usable the map would be on the watch alone for telling where you are, but it would accurately geolocate with its own GPS. The map is so tiny. I haven't really experimented with it for, say, finding directions or trying to see where I'm going.
The thing that is the most glitchy is the SLEEP monitor, as sometimes it will miss the first few hours I've been sleeping. In the morning, you turn on the phone and go into the phone app to let it synch with the phone, and you can see the periods of deep sleep, wakefulness, and light sleep you had through the night. I've never known how much deep sleep I get, and this is fascinating to me. I wish it was more accurate all the time but. It also can track your pulse through the night, and again, interesting to see how the pulse fluctuates, according to the content of your dreams, whereas in deep sleep it is slow and fairly steady in comparison.
I forgot what I did to get the music control function going, but everything else I got from reading. The manual that comes with it is pretty good. I spent two days, maybe about 5 hours, basically, reading everything I could about it and mastering all the functions I want.
The step counter works through motion sensor, not GPS, unless you've started an activity on the watch through that menu on the watch, and then it works through GPS.
One more thing I should add, the app it uses is called the Zepp app, on Android anyway. Within that app, you tell it which model you're using. Of course, it can be used on an iPhone, but I don't have IOS except on an iPad and I haven't tried the app on that.

The always on display on the old Amazfit Bip showed the second hand/ digital second hand was moving. Are there any watchfaces like that on the Amazfit Bip S?
Indeed, there are. There aren't as many watchfaces as the old version as of now, but eventually there will be.

I have one and I'm missing the settings and compass on the watch and can't get them back on the watch they were there when first turned on but then they were gone.
Look out for those in app settings and make them visible from there.

I use the app called "Amazfit bip s watchfaces" by paolo quattrociocci, that's the only decent app i can find, hopefully others can support bip s.

The older one did "Amazfit BIP". This one(Amazfit BIP S) doesn't. The waterproofing from IP 68 to 5ATM led to this compromise.
Can you answer this question- can it record multiple activities without the phone? Eg. I go for cycling, stop it, start running and then stop and start swimming and end. Now when I come back home and sync the data? Will it sync all three activities or only one?

Nope, I mean you can connect it to a USB but only for power/charging, no data transfer. Though you can export data using thirdparty apps or let the app export to strava and then export the GPX.

How would it work for someone who doesn't have a smartphone? Thinking of getting a fitness watch for my mam and setting it up via my phone. She is happy with her button phone though so will she get benefit from watch?
Hmmm... I don't think that Will work. The device has to sync wheater and activitys. Otherwise the memory may get filled?
You can Just connect it to a old smartphone and let that run 24/7 as a "server".
Then the memory can be dumped on that and she will get wheater Info etc.
The battery life is not actually 40 days that they are claiming ..even if your gps is completely off. The battery will run for max 22-25 days.

NO. No multitasking, same as the oder Version. You can't even change music tracks in between a workout.

I got the answer now as I recently purchased the watch.
Once the activity data on the watch is synced with the Amazfit's default app, i.e., Zepp, it automatically gets synced with Strava/Relive etc. All you have to do is add these apps in the Zepp settings once. The process is quite simple and smooth.
Is there any way to sync thr health tracking data to services like Myfitnesspal?
I don't think so, although I haven't tried myself
The heart rate data might be able to sync to Google Fit using Amazfit Tools. (I have not used it)

To Google Fit and strava you can, and if you rely on third party app you can even export the data.
I got this bip s for the purpose of open water. an the result is.. very poor.. the GPS messed up big time... (outdoor bike and running GPS is spot on though) do u have similar experience?
Also i found a bug on the watch... when u finish a run... look at the watch and look at the time.. when u Press the button to end it. u will find out the TOTAL exercise time on the watch... is NOT the same as what u are looking at.. it some time add 3 sec.. some time add up to 7 sec....
which is crazy for short sprint...

Something like this is potentially better than the apple watch in some ways. Like the far superior battery life. Have to charge the apple watch every day.

How to use music control in amazi fit bip S ??
1. connect your phone via bluetooth. 2. Play the song on any app youtube/ Spotyfy etc. 3. Come back to the watch, swipe right, you will get the music controls to play, pause, stop or change the songs. Keep it mind, if you move away from your phone too much then the bluetooth connection will be disconnected and you will not be able to control music from your watch. Hope it helps.

Im looking forward to that comparison to GTS - can't decide which one to get. GTS is smarter looking but its more expensive too. I wonder since BIP S is newer then does it provide more accurate readings of like Heat Rate, location data and others?

Yes.
They are just there to use: play, pause, skip, etc. Tells you the song. Nay bother works with my spotify and phone music player.

@@staceykher it would be cool to have the customisable one with the option of 12 or 24 hour. I tend to like a basic watchface. Time, day, date and battery with a clean basic design. Haven't been able to find hardly any on all the different apps, if any in 12hr. If the weather part of the bip lite functioned better and didn't cut out all the time that would be cool on a watchface. But it's wasted space since 50% of the time it doesn't display the temp.

As of today, in Amazfit App (Zepp), you can with Strava and Apple Health.
