You see how Niao Niao face lit up when the Empress came in . Madam Cheng is trying to hold it together cause she had no idea that her daughter was well liked by many in the Palace 😮
She mentions it previously but I don't think Madam Cheng really knows how much the monarchs (Emperor, Empress and Consort Yue) really like and care for NiaoX2.

The actress playing the empress did an amazing job. So gentle, elegant and acted like what an empress should be like.
When he gave her permission to act up 1:27, I knew it was going to be a SHOW at this party...the sound effects of the bell going off was *perfection*. NiaoX2 is so clever that she would be handle any verbal confrontation but giving her permission to unleash her genius was a performance waiting to happen!
I also hate that they miss the opportunity to use the Empress before her arrival, especially when Consort Ruyang mentions NiaoX2 being rude and needing to be taught. Saying something, "You must be confused as Shaoshang has been learning daily with the Empress in Changqiu Palace. Are you saying YOU are better than the Empress?"

🌸 Finally Lady Cheng gets another chance to defend her daughter. It’s nice to see considering how many misunderstandings there are between them. She does really love her daughter but doesn’t know her at all so tries to treat her with military discipline that works for her other children but not for Shaoshang. Instead Shaoshang’s closer to the Empress.
I also liked how Lady Cheng announced the Empress. It told anyone who didn’t know the Empress that they needed to show courtesy which mostly was directed at her own mother in law. 😂
Mme. Cheng is a senior militay officer, and can biatch slap with the best! 😂
I love the fact that Naio Naio knows how to stick it to you with words and her mother with her first. Zhao LuSi is just cuteness overload when she smile you just can't help but smile too. She is soooo charismatic.

Consort Ruyang is abusing her power over Shaoshang. She is jealous of Shaoshang because General Ling chooses Shaoshang over her spoiled brat granddaughter. She is just using this so-called mother-in-law (Marchioness Chengyang) to humiliate Chang Shasoshang at her bridal banquet. General Ling does not respect and acknowledge this Marchioness Changyang as his stepmother anyway. Consort Ruyang always bragged that she was the Emperor's aunt. However, the emperor supports General Ling 100%, and Shaoshang has the support of the empress. LOL! 🤣🤣🤣

Niao niao is a child who literally was not given the chance to grow up & mature (lacking wise & caring people as guide since she was a child)... she is so hungry for maternal affection that anyone who give her an inkling of that becomes her oasis in her deserted heart.
Well the empress did treat her well. The empress was a complete 180 from her mother. Niao niao needed to grow up in a loved kind of environment not a hard love kind of environment. Especially after going through what she did with the whole issue at the beginning of the show. When she finally reunited with her parents she was showed with tough love from her mother and she had already had a tough time just being by herself it didnt help her mother was trying to make her into this proper lady which she was not. She had to fight to survive basically when she was living without them. She had to pick up some tricks to survive and her mother didnt like that. When your put into a tough situation youll do what you can to survive.

Maid Servants always get the full brute force when they have to follow order like this.
Plus they were kinda cocky, like they wanted to slap her. Keep in mind those servants probably hold a grudge because their princess got snubbed and sent away. Its a pride thing for them as well. When the stepmother mentioned them being slapped as disrespect to the Prince as they are seen as an extension of their master.

NN really loves the empress. The first person that just loves her and the first time being loved just for being herself. Also the empress finally finds out what being loved means. I don't say the others didn't love her but NN is the first person that just loved her. Most of the children, Zisheng and consort Yue loved her but most of those children wouldn't be ashamed to use her. Those two were really good for each other.
It's sad when you always have to guard your heart and mind so they can't hurt you.
I can't understand her mother and to some point her father. She didn't see her child for almost fifteen years. She thinks she knows her child while not even taking the time to try to understand her. I do understand that being away for that long you don't love this child, yet, like the children you always have around you. That's normal, it has to build. But the first thing she did, instead to try to build a connection, is everything you shouldn't do if you ever want your abonded, mistreated etc. child to learn to trust and love you.
The empress, a complete stranger, did just that even the empreror worked that way. Consort Yue just did it with her actions. They could see behind those walls and worked to try to break it down. Even her brothers, cousin, aunt and uncle and her suitors knew NN better than her parents. What even the uncle or the empreror saw more with just one talk. If so many people see more and even like your daughter. or know that you better not mess with NN. As parents you should ask yourself what did we miss.

On another note, am glad that Shaoshang's mother is standing up for her daughter in public after having such a strained mother / daughter relationship almost the entire of the series so far.
Yes, Shaoshang's mother did on a couple of occasions stand up for Shaoshang but that was in private and afterwards she would blame her daughter for either starting the problem or being the root cause that forced the mother to intervene.
🌸 They did it deliberately. First they went to Ling Buyi’s home because they thought the engagement party would be held there and then on to Shaoshang’s house.
To me there is soooo much to like in LLTG,

the mother defends her daughter only when it seems like she has to because of the family name. I'm sure she loves her daughter but she wants her to behave the way she wants her to behave. instead of trying to change all her ways she should embrace who she is because it is no fault of her that you left her behind with people who didn't care for her. you reap what you sow. this scene was another of my favorites. when her mother stands up for her it is priceless in all those scenes. she is a tough woman but she was also cruel to her daughter and almost like she hated her during discovery of how she helped the people of the town she was sent to with her uncle and aunt. through out the entire show her father was the only fantastic role model. he was kind and generous and loving. this scene is priceless as are a. couple of other ones. the guy who is trying to win her over but really only showing his disdain in front of her makes me sick. he is a coward to not show that he cares and only goes around in sneaky wax to ruin her engagements. he acts like he is a big shot but he isn't. he comes through in the end,. sort of

yes, this drama is from a novel. The same author of " Story of Minlan"
The original story, is long and in Chinese. The extent of my Chinese is only slightly better than Shaoshang. The synopsis is modern girl who occupies the body of CSS and goes backward in time, but this trope has already been done, a few times, similar to The Eternal Love’s role acted by Liang Jie. Even ZLS has done modern to period and back, in Tiger and Rose.
They changed it up to an entirely period piece, which is a wise decision. This drama, for me , is one of few (can count with 5 fingers) period dramas that I watched in entirety and I am still watching clips that are always the favorite scenes. This is the first ZLS drama that I completed. WL is one of the reasons--first, his role is complex, one can peel the layers and it takes talent from such a young man, a great role and good director. Second, his masculinity i have not seen much, tall pale skinned actors with good looks is the popular norm. Third, the chemistry the 2 leads created for this drama is oh so good.
