"Noh mask craftsman" Demonstrating His Skills in Kyoto

Noh mask craftsman, BIHAKU KITAZAWA.
"NOHGAKU" is said to have been created by KANNAMI and ZEAMI during the MUROMACHI era. During the EDO era, it became popular not only for SAMURAI but also for the general public. It has been passed down for over 600 years.
NOHMEN is called "OMOTE". This is an important sacred tool. A Noh actor puts the mask on his face and dances. This brings the Noh mask to life.
In the world of NOH, a person suddenly appears. He is a Noh mask craftsman, BIHAKU KITAZAWA.
KITAZAWA, who is from AICHI prefecture, met NOHMEN when he was in his fourth year of university. KITAZAWA was originally interested in art. He held a solo exhibition of graphic art at a gallery in GINZA, Tokyo. By chance, GENPAKU KITAWAZA called out to me there.
"Maybe I have what you're looking for at my house," said GENPAKU. When KITAZAWA picked up NYOI KITAZAWA's work at GENPAKU's house, what was black and white appeared to him to be in full color. KITAZAWA felt inspired.
What is NOHMEN that touches the hearts of modern people? KITAZAWA is taking on new challenges. November 2019. KYOTO “MARUGOTO MUSEUM”, an art exhibition held simultaneously at 10 temples in KAMIGYO Ward. KITAZAWA collaborated with ICHIRO TSURUTA, who is famous for BIJINGA, and exhibited their works there.
“First of all, I want people to think that NOHMEN is beautiful, and to get the audience interested. The beauty of NOHGAKU and NOHMEN has been handed down as a tradition. I want to pass on the beautiful appearance to the present day.” This video introduces such a Noh mask craftsman.
