I no longer call myself an evangelical. I have changed to an historical church (Reformed Episcopal in which the services consist almost entirely of Scripture), and have switched political parties. The Democratic party cares for the poor and downtrodden and welcomes everyone. I was a lifelong Republican whose first vote was for Ronald Reagan in 1984, but I refused to vote for Trump. I wrote in Evan McMullin in 2016 then voted for Biden in 2020. I no longer recognize either the Republican party nor the evangelical church. So sad. 😢

I am 51. Most of my life I had been puzzled to know how Jesus would know who to take with him to heaven and those who will be left behind to perish with the earth. People who follow that hate religion are not people of Christ. They are the people of the other one. God warns us 3 times in the Bible of false teachers. God warns us not to follow them. I don’t even say I’m a Christian anymore because of what that means politically.
I will always confess Christ and say I follow Him but I will not affiliate with such hate and those who use His name to perpetuate hate. Those haters must be the great falling away and they don’t know it. It’s so sad. We need to pray for them, if they don’t turn that hate around, they face a judgment from God that will be terrifying for them.
Since getting into bed with the Republican Party in the 1990s, Christianity has become almost unrecognizable. Going from the church of love, charity and good works to the church of hate, intolerance and division in just 30 years. Oh, please - read your own Bibles and the history, Wallis & Joe-Blow. The problem with any religion, especially Christianity, is that anyone can find anything in both the Jewish & Christian canons to support/justify any behaviors - positive or negative.
One need only look at the checkered history of Judeo-Christian behaviors to understand that.
But the widely varying behaviors and beliefs of Christians over the past 1800+ years is particularly telling - arbitrarily choosing which texts make it into Bibles (with many versions of it), conflicts over Christology at the outset, persecutions, Inquistions, Crusades, various other religious wars or conflicts among Catholics vs. Orthodox vs. Protestants, various forms of abuses and malfeasance continuing to this day, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseam.
Then there's the Protestant branch of Christianity - 30,000+ plus different sects/churches, they all claim only their interpretations are correct and cannot agree on anything; greed, duplicity, hypocrisy, more abuses of THEIR flock; fomenting hatred against the 'other'; meddling in science, education, public health policy, constitutional issues, all while subsisting on the good graces of generous tax breaks & subsidies; subverting / denying women & LGBTQ rights, etc.
The problem with Christianity is in the so-called sacred texts themselves and the sordid history of the institutions, everything else gets down to cherry-picking by either good or very bad people.

I no longer call myself an evangelical. I have changed to an historical church (Reformed Episcopal in which the services consist almost entirely of Scripture), and have switched political parties. The Democratic party cares for the poor and downtrodden and welcomes everyone. I was a lifelong Republican whose first vote was for Ronald Reagan in 1984, but I refused to vote for Trump. I wrote in Evan McMullin in 2016 then voted for Biden in 2020. I no longer recognize either the Republican party nor the evangelical church. So sad. 😢

I am 51. Most of my life I had been puzzled to know how Jesus would know who to take with him to heaven and those who will be left behind to perish with the earth. In 2019 it became very clear to me what that answer is. I am a Christian and I know that hate or the opposite of love is not the teachings of Christ. People who follow that hate religion are not people of Christ. They are the people of the other one. God warns us 3 times in the Bible of false teachers. God warns us not to follow them. They will use his name and come in the name of God but they will not be of me. The truth is this country was built on the lie of what Christianity is to those on the far right. It was used for more than 400 years to justify slavery and all the horrible acts that fell under slavery. No way a real Christian would call those people Christians.
