I've been on many boats with bent and broken flukes and never have I ever seen a shaft snap. I'm on one right now that every flute is bent and your teeth chatter and it's been like that for a year and it isn't gonna snap. The only time I've seen a shaft snap if from going from forward to reverse to fast at to high of a rpm
cause... lack of maintenance and regular inspections... it's amazing ships aren't lost every year...
Why is it so expensive? My stepdad could weld a propeller in his garage with scrap metal, and he does for his small boat.
does your stepdad take his "small boat" out on the bering sea for weeks at a time to fish crab?
If new guys were listening to these veteran captains, there would be no more new captains and the whole industry would die out. You gotta start sometime, what is he supposed to do, wait till he's 50 to be a captain?
Some of those guys were barely out of their teens and captains of boats but now nobody is good enough even after 20 years on the boat. Its all a bs scam. If they push people to be captain they will make less money so they know to keep their foot on everybodys neck so they stay in money longer.
What happened to Andy? I stopped watching for a season or two and when I came back Johnathan was running the boat. Andy was gone
Andy got sick of being on tv and retired to his horse ranch.
I don’t know why I would love to work on one of these boats knowing that it is one of the worst jobs I can imagine.
$50k for a propeller, gat daym.
Wasn't that the point of a 500k rehab boat lol
I miss Andy on the show
Seems like a dumb thing to waste quote and cry about a prop. Not leasing the quota isnt going to get you a prop any faster. The prop fairy isnt gonna visit with a magical prop. Youre just going to lose out of money to go towards said prop. Cutting your nose off to spite your face
Andy isn't going fishing without a prop. He's losing quota. Now he's losing a chance to make money off that quota for his pride. Bad business decision. He could have paid for rhe prop and the shaft with that money. Now he gets nothing
✌🏻👊
Andy's freaking out about expenses and said he's only worried about the prop not the quota. If he leases the quota wont he be able to make a little money back instead of just sitting at the port and not fishing? Seems kinda dumb to me but what do i know? He seems kinda pissy, which i understand, he's stressed out pretty bad, but that doesnt excuse his behavior towards his nephew. He's just trying to help out and Andy just blew him off
They need to sue the shaft company
The shaft company would tie them up in litigation and say it wasn't used properly ect ect ect....
it's an old boat, zero chance a lawsuit would hold up in court.
Sea got the gold minnneee....
I got the shaft!
I've not been following the show, did they just put that shaft on?
Lost their anode, so the shaft paid the price
You can tell Andy is definitely has depression issues I know that look because I suffer from it and when my kids mother is always bitching at me I go into the state of numbness and peril
Never ever try sell someone’s else’s quota it ain’t yours
I wonder if they get to keep the broken off legs and claws for dinner 🤔
no reason they cant
$100,000 for a prop? I'm not buying this. What is this boat worth $10,000,000
They arnt cheap. The prop for the tug I work on is $130k. It’s a 9’ diameter stainless steel 4 blade ice prop, my grandfather bought it for the tug in 1993 from Khalenberg. Even a new prop for my own tug is $12k and it’s only a little 36” 3 blade. Prop for one of my smaller boats is $8k and that’s a 26”x22” Khalenberg
Andy is 100% right. The youngsters have to put in the time in the lesser fishing seasons. They all want the big money crab but don't want to put in the work learning the craft. A license doesn't mean you know anything.
if that guy is actually paying 20k for a shaft and $26k for a propeller, he's getting ROBBED big time.
That's also pulling the boat out of the water to make the repairs.
those parts are not sitting around in a warehouse somewhere there made to order.
B.s.
Blah blah blah so many experts in the comments 😅
This cost scotty his jpb
If you wanted to make a deal, talk to the man you want to make a deal with 1st! Thats Andy. THEN, go and look for a boat and lease the quota. Went about it the wrong way. Now you don’t even have a job. Lesson learned…..put it towards learning what it is to be a captain 👍 You kinda burned a bridge now🤷 Stepping on toes won’t get you to where you want to be my friend
He don't like u🤪
that’s what drugs will do folks
Half of these "captains" ain't a captain ! They are children Playing tough guy
Well hell I’d love to see you on any of these boys doing any better. Your the captain of a kayak maybe 😂😂😂😂
Andy is illiterate.
I don't get how equipment that cheap, can cost soo much....
Something doesn't add up.
Shaft snap hmm karma ya think
I would have been annoyed that my nephew is leaning back in a chair with his feet up on the desk while asking something big of me. And starting his big pitch with "So...."
Terrrible pitch. Didn't butter Andy up at all. Didn't explain the position. Didn't sound humble or appreciative.
It’s called mine Mine MINE!
Deadliest egos
Ego.
I used to love throwing metal snare Nets into props when I was done fishing on these crab boats. That means we got to go home.
That’s messed up.
😂 they found out u did that goddam
I absolutely hate that skipper! 100% the worst skipper on the show! This couldn’t of happened to a better guy lmao
Worst is Keith by far
@@ebayer4life980 I agree
Ohh come , you must be forgetting about bottom feeder Harley!
Andy did have his douche moments. But Keith wins by a mile.
Don't forget about Elliott.
Usually helps you invest in maintenance of your ship. Sadly these cretins usually spend the least amount of money on upkeep.
Either we don't know specifics in that "family" business or nephew needs to grow up or figure out how life works..unc said there ain't no legacy, no traditions, no family business. There is only his business. Lol corporate take-over 🤣
there might be a "family" if it wasn't so clear he was at it for himself.
Thats why these guys have nothing and own nothing. Learn from jews and arabs. They ONLY deal with family. These clowns are the opposite.
How does $46,000 dollars turn into a 100,000 dollar bill if it costs $54,000 I think your getting screwed
That would be all in with the cost of haul out and work. It’s not cheap to haul out a vessel this size. It costed us $12k to have our 65’ tug lifted out of the water with a crane, as for a actual dry dock it costed us $35k just to put our 100’ tug in the dry dock, another $18k in labour for the dry dock crew that did the work like removing our prop, shaft, rudder and do a ultrasound on the hull, and it costed $1500/day to have the tug in the dry dock primarily to have the pumps running to keep the dry dock dry. (Worked out to be about $1000/day for the electricity for the pump to run and the rest for the wages of the dock supervisor to keep the pump running and for the wear & tear fee of the pump
He’s a b. Thats what’s going on
"We will miss you. You are a good solid hydro guy".. lol. Show disrespect and you get disrespect.
That shaft does not cost 20k
Hey cap i know the season is trashed and you are going to lose a bunch of money but i went behind your back and made some business deals without you. Why arent you happy ? Lol
My name is scottie....and I want brownie points for leasing out quota.....I also wanna say the word quota as many times in one day as I can....I ALSO THINK IM A GENIUS FOR COMING UP WITH A WAY TO MAKE MONEY....BUT REALLY IM A DEGENERATIVE LOSER
Someone digs that up in a million years and laughs that we used to use those two fish and destroy our Earth with gas and overfishing
I don't think you quite understand how long a million years is, bud. In a million years this planet will be an uninhabitable wastedump that's only memorized in history books lol
