This is great! Both the idea and the fact that people want to make it for themselves insteaf of asking you to sell it to them as a product. Self sufficiency is on the rise and I LOVE ITTT
@@rottiejakelukeYou can get one from Lee Valley Tools in Canada or the US. There are lots of Chinese vendors if you don't mind trading delivery time for a halving of the cost.
That's a wonderful solution for elderly or disabled people. I know that a hatchet is probably a better solution for able-bodied people, but for those with issues relating to coordination or joint pain, this would be far easier and safer.
Looks like it would be great for anyone. Really speed up the job making more time for other chores. I'd still start the kids off with an axe so they learn the meaning of work
Bravo to your ingenuity! After breaking one of my hearthstone bricks while using an axe to split wood I thought of a similar design - but never carried it forward. Nicely done!
This wuld work great 4 me now that my sons moved out of the house i can do this myself ...without them having 2 worry about me splitting the wood. Thaank u soo much💙💙
I don't know if it's just me. But I like any idea that upcycles used, broken, or dull files, saw blades, or leaf springs.... etc. Good video. Keep up the good work.
That intro was like a swiffer commercial. "Heres our product dusting stuff perfectly" "Then here's someone beating the shit out of their blinds with a feather duster" Here's my invention working perfectly, and here's me slamming a dull hatchet into a big ass knot.
Very cool. If Grandma were to have the grandkids around, I'd suggest you might design a locking mechanism of some sort. Maybe one that would cover the blade when not in use, like in the garage. Kids might just root through the stuff, and an exposed and fixed blade isn't something they'd be on the lookout for... But wonderful invention!
I'd be sure to lock all the kitchen cabnets with anything sharp, too. And make sure the kids are wrapped up tight with bubble wrap before they leave the house...and make sure they have their helmets on to walk down the street. Or.....just tell your kids not to touch stuff. But you do you.
Does it work on thicker bits - so starting with a chunk of 2*4 or similar and gradually cutting that down to kindling size? All the vids I can find of this design show it working well cutting thin bits of plank, but usually I'm starting with timber that's bigger, and it's not clear if this would be up to the job. Also, the example where the axe didn't work was when it came up against a knot. Does this work with timber with knots in?
This is brilliant, love the design and simplicity. I'd have been tempted to paint the jagged parts as teeth. But seriously, loved it, it's more than likely a Christmas present that I'll make someone. Too bad I'm not as good at welding as you are, but I'll figure it out!
Randomly came across your video and now I'm going to make this next week! I will most likely bump it up in size to get more torque behind it. Awesome design and awesome vid! Also, was curious where you got your jacket?
@@TheMetalist I like how it has more curve and more step levels to aid in the cutting. The one I bought only has I think 4 steps and it is more like a diagonal line so can slip at times and just not as good with a variety of size
38 people thumbs down and a couple of idiots with dumb comments but I thought it was a great video only problem is my 12 year old son wants to make one himself
Ruined the hardened file when you welded it, to re-harden it, get it glowing yellow and quench in oil, then heat to about 450°F for a couple of hours so it's not brittle.
Very clever. I think I'll make something similar for myself.
Nice 👍💪
The Metalist it's brilliant! I hope you've patented it 👍
Very clever in that he picks a piece of wood with a huge knot in it to demonstrate the hatchet.
This is great! Both the idea and the fact that people want to make it for themselves insteaf of asking you to sell it to them as a product. Self sufficiency is on the rise and I LOVE ITTT

This needs to be put into production now!
I will ... sooner or later 😃
It is allready.... in Germany you get one for 30 € by "Manufactum" also a version to mount on the wall
@@dreamsteam8272 can you please send me a link for where to purchase in Germany? Thanks

I skinned the top of my thumb off doing this with a hatchet. Definitely a good solution. Though, drinking less whiskey helps too.
duuude. i would totally buy one of these
Nice, Thanks 😊
I would as well. You need to get selling bro.
Make it 4, great job

Genius.I can see this selling at every Harbor Freight store across the U.S.
That would be cool 😁
I wish would be cool to have a smaller one for inside a van or camper.

Basic metal fabrication...
Amazing gift for me to make for my mom, I’ll be starting it tonight thank you
Awesome 💪👍
Very cool. Man has some skills. Enjoyed watching.
Thanks 😊
I must say that is very good. Now i know what to make next week at work. Sick of chopping with an Axe.( great job).
That's an awesome build! Love the blade.
ive never seen one of these before , its genius man , this is on my list of useful shit to make now ,
Thank you 😊
Super creative concept man. Good work.
Thank you 😁
I like the design, great job!
Thanks 😊
thanks for sharing your idea.
looks great and is easy to build👍🏻
I gonna build one for my mother, she's starting to struggle with the axe.
Or just cut the wood for her??

Kool build...but axe is more challenging and fun!! Great idea for someone with disabilities or less trusting with an axe! Thx for share though!!!
Thank you 🙂
It was actully a present for my 93 years old grandma. She loves it 😁
Someone in china is now making this, they thank you for the idea 💡
Will be in the USA in a few months
If i woud care i wouldn't share it
This is pretty genius. I can't weld but I'm thinking one could be made out wood scraps
Great idea ... send me some pics from the result 🙂
Excellent!
Thank you 😁
I do like using an axe though.. great idea though may well have me a go at that
This dude is a badass
Thank you 😁
@@TheMetalist you're welcome
I appreciate what you do. It's inspiring me to do some stuff. I'm actually going to buy a Miller tig welder here soon.
What gauge metal are you using. What are your measurements?
Somebody shared a Link with that tools ..... cant find it at the moment
2,5 cm width x 2mm thickness ( 1” x 0,08 in barbarian units )
I'd buy that!
I know I'm a little late but you need to try to get a patent or trademark for that. Nice work.
Truly incredible. Do you sell these?
Thank you 😁 not now
Thats genius! Kick starter?
Thank you 🙂
Now put a big old knot piece in there like you showed with the hatchet.
I want one of these!!!
Harden the file again?
Interesting. I was thinking of making this but out of only L angle
Nice will work also
So good
Thanks 😊
This is super idea...
Thank you 😊
I like it. But it would be safer to use if the handle part would be blunt and the lower part sharp.
Also a nice idea 👍
Cool device. Much safer. Do you have to sharpen it often?
Thank you 😊 not once til now but i haven't used it much ... Winter is coming 😅
What kind of shirt or jacket are you wearing in this video. I like it and I want one
Ist a Mascot jacket

Have you patented this? If you could produce and market this, a lot of people would buy one. Including me.
Maybe possible with dry wood only!?
Depends on how wet it is
Holy snapped!!! I have wood I need to cut in those sizes of pieces to grill out. Totally useful. Have an eBay account?
👍 not now 😊
nice. do you have to requench the file knife to harden it again so it stays sharp?

Oh that nice to hear ... i saw some of them on the Internet!
@@TheMetalist u did the best ;)
Your whole ad was about axe going hard through knot or how do u say it in America

Dont suppose you got a site you sell these on do you??

Awesome!
Brilliant

Cant you show homemade a Stove rocket vortex? Thanks

$265! Make your own. Great idea, but very expensive. Probably get cheaper!
Cool tool. But if you use a hatchet properly. A hatchet will work just fine.
What are the dimensions for the metal?
Which measured? A drawing?
@@TheMetalist the thickness of the metal, length and width. Basically a blueprint if it's possible

very effective

I get where you're coming from, but that's probably not necessary for this tool. Could Probably have settled for mild steel with a little wider wedge.
