  • The Tampuan are an ethnic population indigenous to the province of Ratanakiri, in Northeastern Cambodia. There are approximately 30,000 Tampuan people. They have their own language and many of the elders continue to follow animist beliefs.
This footage has been taken at Sel village, few kilometres north of Yeak Loam Lake.
Maes Heurn is singing a Tampuan love song and he is accompagnied by an instrument called Kong Rang Nong. This 9 stings instrument is popular in the ethnic groups of north-esatern Cambodia. The body is made by a cylindrical bamboo which holds the strings from one extremity (used as a bridge). The strings are tunes thanks to the wood sticks (mechanics). The resonance chamber is made by a dry gourd.
Many thanks to The Tampuan Community especially Maes Heurn and Ven Churk for their invitation, Oum Rotanak Oudom and Bao Vutha.
