I'm an old guy now, 61, and STP has been one of my favorites from the start. I saw them with Scott and I saw them with the late Chester, who was a great fit. I just found out last week that I am quite ill, but I have tickets to see them (along with Bush and the Cult) in July in NJ with Jeff Gutt and, if their new album is any sign of what is to come, I expect to have a mind-blowing time. I'm hoping the anticipation of seeing STP will help me get over my illness, and hoping to "find my happy ending."
I didn't know what to expect when I first listened to this. I must say, the marriage of Bennington's voice and this great band's sound is tremendous. He can do whatever he wants, in that he can sound like Weiland, or go off and take the band with him in another direction. He does both very well, in my opinion.This sounds awesome. The band has still got it. And Bennington is a big part of why they sound so good here, at least to me. Great choice.
Hear, hear. Bennington is actually a really good vocalist. Linkin Park's problem has never been talent. I still think Meteora is a pretty damn good album. But everything LP made after that sounded so bland that I lost all respect for the band. Put him in a band with some guitarists and songwriters who know how to use talent and you get this. May not be as good as Weiland era STP, but that doesn't make it any less good.
LP has pure music after MTM..You need some knowledge on music first to judge others on their music..LP has really talented musicians including chester and mike..Just cause you didnt like it doesnt mean it sucked..Youre just a step behind from appreciating the true piece of music..@@psychowordsmith

Even though Scott is a founding member and it's not quite the same without him I still can't help but love the music. All the haters got to grow up and embrace it. Rock on STP with or without Scott. I saw Scott in May at a festival and he was the reason I rushed to get to the venue so early that day. Unfortunately, he delivered nothing but disappointment that weekend. In order for this band to continue, something had to be done and Scott was not able to fight his demons in order to make that "something" happen. Therefore, I agree 100%!

My first impression of this EP months ago was "WTF with this generic stuff?", but now it really grew on me, great music, everything here is good but take some time to appreciate. I was thinking about DeLeo Brothers' new way of writing music, since self titled (2010) all songs seems to follow the same formula used on "Church On Tuesday" and that's the main problem they have to solve as soon as possible. Their new songs have lots of cool chords, awesome bass lines, etc, etc, but all of this is "contained" within a tiny structure, we don't have the time to get a gilmpse of what's going on and then the song shifts into another chord, BOOM! It not helps. It gives the impression of being "generic" and "too short", "radio friendly". But when you take some time listening to it you notice everything that's going on. I don't know if it's a DeLeo's choice to sound "tiny" or is it a producer choice, terrible choice. We need to feel that sense of Beginning, Bridge, Ending, like in "Wicked Garden". That song was not overly long like Pink Floyd's songs, but we had some time to absorb everything that was going on. "Cry Cry" might be my favorite in it. Cheers

I don't know what you are listening to, but this album is vintage Deleo brothers. Heavy riffs, cool chord progressions, and bass driven hard rock music. Same on the Inside, Tomorrow, and Out of Time sound like they could've been off of an STP, Army of Anyone, or Talk Show album. Black Heart has a different feel but it's undeniably STP. Cry Cry was written by Chester so it will obviously be different but you can still tell the Deleo bro's got their hands on it.

scotts voice changed from album to album, and i can definitely think of songs where his voice sounded very close to chesters. people just like to complain for the sake of complaining and argue the talking point that scott somehow carried stp when while he was a massive personality on stage, and had a great voice, you could definitely listen to army of anyone and talk show, and this album with chester, and as a music fan know that the deleos wrote the music. Fact of life - bands whose trade mark is frontman's voice will always look for a replacement with similar abilities, history proved it. At least he has a fresh and strong sounding, not so demolished and imbalanced like Scott's.
i wouldn't say their trademark is Scott, Rob and Dean play a huge role in the band, listen to Same on the Inside, hear the guitar and bass and tell me that isnt awesome music
The odds to make it "big" in music seems akin to hitting the lottery. That being said, I really feel for the members of STP. Imagine making it big but your lead singer's drug problems prevent recording, touring, everything. It must be heartbreaking. I wish all of them, including Scott, peace, happiness, and success.
What we have here is... not Stone Temple Pilots. Nor is it anything like what Chester usually does. I vote they come up with a brand new name for this arrangement.

When I saw Chester sing Whole Lotta Love I gained a new respect for the guy... he'd be great in a hard rock bluesy band.
