I see a couple of Cabelas in Canada that have them but they won’t ship to the US (including Cabela stores in the US). I also checked the OSC website and the retailers they have in the US aren’t carrying them. Thx in advance.

People forget....40 people in the Donner party died when they got stuck in a snow storm in California. The Sierra Nevada mountain range gets just as cold as many places in the north and eastern parts of the US. Btw I love this jacket!!! I am shopping around for a new extreme weather jacket. My Holden Overland Parka is 10 years old and doing great...but its not rated for sub zero temps. I want to try new things.
No doubt. It snows a ton in that region. I nearly got stuck in Tahoe years ago in the season's first snowfall, highway patrol was requiring chains to drive out of town, it was some serious snow all through Donner Pass. And I'm from Southcentral Alaska.
Please do more of this! Best trousers, boots/shoes, gloves etc. clothes are a huge necessity and it doesnt matter if you are a city prepper or bush prepper. And even non preppers benefit from it.
I got a resolut Canada goose and it save my life 2 time in winter camping. In the middle of the night the temperature drop under -40 celcius. My sleeping bag and liner where not enough. I use my coat as a blancket.
I have slept in my down coat quite often, as I live in an old Minnesota farmhouse.

It gets insanely hot here in Australia, we get over 44c for weeks on end, it drops to 33c at night. I came from a really cold country, I miss going out in warm clothes, you can't take much off to cool down....
The fur at the edge of the hood is designed not just for warmth but to keep snow and wind from your face. The hood should be very “deep” and combined with the fur edge it should then create a ”windstopping funnel”. It could somehow block your vision but helps out a lot in windy/ snowy arctic conditions. Up here in the north of Sweden it’s sub-arctic in winter times and I use Fjällräven and Canada Goose when out in those conditions. However cheaper alternatives are always good
Make no mistake this is not cheaper. Canada goose has become a fad, but is not as warm of a jacket.

Nothing is warmer than the Snow Mantra. At 1650$ it is the warmest jacket on the planet.

I bought my teenage son the OSC atka bomber jacket at Cabelas and does he love it!!! Last week when it was -35 celsius here in Ontario he was still wearing only a t-shirt underneath and was hot!!! I paid $900 for the bomber version and am so happy I did not waste my hard earned money on some Canada goose junk. It was pretty hard to find a retail outlet even though they are made here in Toronto.....Canada goose is probably buying them out!!!! Becoming a dealer would be a smart plan. 2. Steel form wire in collar that keeps collar formed and also a lows to remount shape. Also, full down fill in collar unlike the loosely filled collars with other brands.

Down parka's are great; I've had a moutaineering parka since 1977 that's made with a lightweight ripstop nylon shell. It does get small punctures or tear easily, so you've made a good choice. Mine loses down when I sit on a surface made of cloth. The down feathers poke through my shell into the other surface and pull out. It is still a toasty coat though!
I used to have one of these when I worked up in Norman Wells, in -48. Never once felt cold!

The ECWS system is rated to -60F just another option. (All levels can be obtained for way less than $750) warmth isn't the only thing you want, keeping your skin dry is also very very important. I do like that belt/seal feature on this parka, very ingenious.
Be nice if there was a video.... the BEST yiu can buy for 100.00, then 101-$200.00, best for 201.00-$300.00, 300-400, upto 1500 or so.
I am thinking about making a winter coat out of a bear hide. OR getting 3 of those sheep skin rugs at Costco, and sewing my own up... goose down fill, ykk zipper with big buttons.
The warmest jacket I ever had was my heavy winter parka in the army (with the faux fur lined hood). We helicopter crewchiefs were issued them because we had to stand outside while the helicopter was being refueled, and in the winter, with that rotor wash, it was freaking cold lol.

US Army. UH60 Blackhawk crewchief in Korea in the early 90s is when i had it. And I think you can get them for about $200, so not nearly as expensive lol. But man, did it keep me nice and warm.

As a counterpoint to this, you don't really want waterproof clothing below -18 (0F) because the moisture is trapped inside and functions like a refrigerator. Other problems would be melting fabric around fire, and the fact that it doesn't cover your legs.The advantages of a cotton canvas anorak should be compared as well: completely breathable, moisture collects on the outside, completely wind-resistant, fire resistant, better durability, covers your legs, thin layer for trekking, and far cheaper.
Combined with wool pants and thrift sweaters you're looking at warmer, better quality, and more durable clothing for about a third of the price (about half if you can't make the anorak yourself).
Just my take on it, although one can look to see what Mors Kochanski says about them as well (garbage, in short).

it looks "OK" but i watched this years ago, and I bought a Wiggys Urban Antarctic good to -20. It fits amazing and is thin. You will sweat and die eventually in down. Lamilite will dry almost instantly. What I notice the most is how your coat dont fit snug around the neck or chest, and the hook face pocket isnt deep enough. If you would like, I can show you a private vid of my Wiggys. It has a wolverine ruff. It is amazing

sleeves should be longer extending to the outstretched fingers just in case you lose your gloves....lenght needs to be down to knees ....gotta keep willie warm
I bought a Nobis Condor Parka. Nobis is a Toronto based company. Its founder used to be on the original Canada Goose Team. Quality is equal to the best CG expedition parkas + better looking. Good to -40°C before layering, but can go down to -60°C when layered properly.
Toboggan (Canada) awesome brand as well! Purchased one 8 yrs ago and it’s comfortable and warm plus durability. It is a heavy weight and when wearing, never had cold seep through

I work in northern quebec and yukon. Spend my day outside. I have the money so i dont really care about the price tag. Last year i went shopping in montreal tried every parka in store did my reasearch on the internet. I finaly bought the canada goose expedition parka. It has the most feature and most proven desig love it. I liked your review thank you. Looks like a good alternative to cg

Wiggys makes some similar parkas that are less expensive.

I have an older Canada Goose RESOLUTE PARKA that I would put up against that jacket as well. Great vid as usual.
Check out Wiggy's outdoor gear. I'm out hunting in the coldest weather and their gear is amazing. The coats are half as thick but twice as warm. Down bunches up and moves around. Wiggy's insulation doesn't move or bunch.

At 55 I find I get cold cery easy. The days of running around in a T Shirt in -15, and a sweater in -20 are over. I freeze at -10 now. This may be my choice just for hunting and outdoor sports. Getting old sucks so being prepared will help me enjoy what I always enjoyed.
Hahaha, I have had "Michelin man" North face before it was "fashion". Yes, toasted it after 10 years of outdoor and mountaineering. Marmot too. I find down is only option...I have 30-35 year old down, down/gortex sleeping bags here that are still good to original temp rating . I do have arctic Carhartt gear (bibs, jackets, and coveralls) for work....they work well. I did score a pair of top of the line extreme cold boots...good down to -50...rubber is so soft it is sticky at 60 degrees..don't remember cthe brand, but we're BIG $$ when previous owner bought them for a hunting trip..used once! . . Good vid
Make Gallium Aluminum alloy and fill tube's with the alloy. Then weave those tube's into sleeve's vest and pant's placed in Lycra like a compression top and bottom even a sock you pull over your cotten socks. This alloy will absorb ypur body heat and conduct it and hold your body heat for a long time. Neat alloy to use. 😊

A warm jacket is a key component to surviving extremely cold weather! I have a Columbia down filled jacket with a heat reflecting inner layer, it opens up at the pits to allow for ventilation if you get to hot and a fur parka hood on it, all the zippers have zip flies on them and it is water resistant, I wear it out at -40 C, I find that I had to unzip the armpits to allow me to cool off because I was starting to sweat! It cost me about $400.00 at Sport Check!

The Canada goose resolute model is the one to get if you go that brand. That's a great looking jacket though!
Don't forget to mention that OSC jackets are actually made in Canada, and not outsourced overseas. I bought an OSC Kanti today at the Pacific Mall outlet location. Pricey, but the quality is unsurpassed. And like Prepper said, will last for years.
Could be made just as well in Thailand ; made in Canada is an excuse to pay more.
@@leiferikkson2616 It depends on where your values lie. If you prefer to buy local like me (I'm Canadian) then it's worth it. Because the money I paid is going to my neighbours in a sense. If you don't care about that and only want to save a buck, then go buy stuff made elsewhere. It's your choice.

@@leiferikkson2616 I hear what you're saying. But you have to consider things like a worker making $15\hr minimum wage in Canada vs $2 a day in an overseas sweatshop. Or you might buy one $1000 high quality jacket that will last you ten years, or buy a $200 lower quality jacket every few years. There are valid points either way. I just found out that Tough Duck jackets are Canadian made and cost around $200. They may not be as warm or as stylish as OSC, but it's an alternative.

Canada Goose, Fjall Raven, Bergans of Norway. They all are fine however they will all eventually get cold unless you keep you body moving.
Seams like a good jacket. Personelly I love my Fjällräven Expedition down Parka Nr. 1 ☺️👍🏻 an other awesome jacket, that workes really good in the north of Sweden where I live and we have the same temps sometimes (-25-40 celsius) ☺ 👌🏻
Great video about the jacket. You should also consider doing a video on your trapper's hat. I used to wear knit hats until I tried one of the trappers hats. Now I have 3 of the Mad Bomber hats and I love them.
I have a working outside jacket bough at Giant Tigre. It’s fine, worked for one week at -35c 6 hrs a day. Good boots, stay moving around. As per your dog the danger is not the body getting cold but the paw’s. Check with your vet. Love your dog.
Hey CP - check out Wiggy's Antartic Parka - they claim it's the worlds warmest and it's way less expensive. Used by the Alaska State Patrol in temps down to -80F, 62.2C.

I prefer a layered approach, but this sure looks like a warm jacket, and very, very durable. 1100 seems to be about right, for the warmth it provides. So many think they can get a winter coat at Walmart and be warm...LOL.
That looks very nice. Iv never bothered with a big jacket even down to -20 Iv just layered up but this is defiantly worth looking at.
my wife and i just bought one for each of us super awesome jacket. my wife is always cold, she had to actually pull some baselayers off. this was in 23 degree weather with a 12 mph wind.

I have the Snow Mantra.
It is heavy, bulky, but you can't get cold in this jacket even when sedintary for long periods of time. It has many well thought out features, a proven design. The more you wear it the more comfortable it gets. It comes down to the top of your knees. It is like wearing a thick down blanket. Some folks don't realize that Canada Goose is actually filled with Duck down, not Goose down, if you read the tags. File this one under you get what you pay for.
There used to be an excellent Canadian company called Raven Wear. Does anyone here have RW ? I would like to hear about your comments on it. They made custom made to order very thick fleece hunting parkas and bib pants, that could have a windproof liner added for additional fee.. You could get it any way you wanted with a myriad of custom features, which I took full advantage of. I still have mine, very quiet and relatively light compared to a CG. They can still be found on Ebay, still pricey, but worth it if you want the best warm, quiet hunting gear.

Thats terrible. I wish a speedy recovery to your dad. Most folks don't even realize Canada Goose uses Duck, not Goose down. Now dirty duck down. Shakes head...
I have a Patagonia Grade VII coat coming Monday. Their's is traceable Goose Down and I expect it will be just as warm and lighter and more comfortable to wear. Its also cheaper than CG, who never runs any sales that I have seen.
Being a snowshoe fan, I gotta say that winterwear has come a very long way in the last 10 years. I have a more recent North Face model and I love it. It's more sports oriented but it's definitly a warm one. It breathes beautifully and is very lightweight.
I love wearing it when I'm working outside in the cold... but the jacket your showcase it seems to be a very strong winner for utility... I mean, mine has nothing in terms of actual pockets. Mine will climb up when you croutch a lot. I think the design and inner belt in the one you are showcasing are great for preventing that.

got this jacket in medium size, the drawstring around the waist is badly insulated, you feel the cold all around the waist line easily when tightened up when it's only -5c... another disapointing thing is that there is no drawstring at the bottom of the parka to prevent cold air going under, even with the snow skirt closed, theres still a 10cm hole that lets cold air get inside the parka from the belly resulting in cold about the belly. A nice feature that OSC could have added is an integratred emmergency face/neck gaither, like canadagoose snow mantra or northface gotham 3 jacket.
Cold winters are not so terrible cold as the wind. Therefore, it is better to have two layers of outerwear. For example, on the glacier, I wore a “Mormot 8000” downy suit, and on top of that was a jacket and pants from canvas "Schott".
I always preferred down over man-made fibers. Except when it get wet then it's worthless. If it had wool in it I would like it even better. But other than that, it looks like a great coat.
synoptic problem it isn't going to get wet at -30 unless you spill your coffee and Thar's going to freeze in seconds and brush right off!!
Another very thorough video CP. I read somewhere that the fur on the hood is meant to create some sort of microclimate which prevents your face from freezing. ATB from Belgium.
I'm sure it's probably one of the best winter coats you can get but i bought a Canada Goose before it was a fashion item and it is still a well made coat

I just got a $300 Marmot 700 full down coat, for Minnesota weather. There was a sale for $210, but it didn’t fit and they don’t do exchanges. But, except for the flimsy outer fabric and small sizing, I have heard they are comparable to more expensive brands. The outer fabric thing worries me, tho. I want a Fjallraven, but their women’s expedition coats are $600-750.

The new “OSC Mission” Jacket 🧥 he is wearing comes in 3 different models.
700 / 800 down filled, And then there is the “OSC Mission Expedition Orion Nebula” that they only made 600 a year.
They produce them in November and ship them out to you in March. You have to be on the list and you will pay for it in advance and they are custom made only.
Which means you have to send in your size and put down your $1850 American dollars. Those are the two that I bought for me and my wife.
I had our name on the damn list for 2 years. And received ours last March. Along with our “100% custom made” winter gloves.
These gloves are made for one thing and one thing only, is that is to make sure no matter how cold it gets or how long you were out in the weather even on the top of Mount Everest for a month if you could actually live there for a month your hands would not freeze whatsoever.

As you probably know, space is already very, very cold - roughly 2.7 Kelvin (-270.45 Celsius, -454.81 Fahrenheit). This is mostly due to a lack of atmosphere and the vacuum-like nature of space - with very few molecules to energetically bounce around, there can be no heat.
To get a proper fit your hand should be measured eight different ways. And measured late in the afternoon. Because like the rest your body it swells during the day.
And these are similar to the US Army special forces airborne Rangers etc. that are the gauntlet type that come up to your elbows.
They are mittens. The backside of the mountain is grizzly bear from the fingertips all the way up to the elbow and the part from your wrist all the way up to your elbow is made out ofgrizzly for all the way around the mitten part is made out of reindeer hide.
Over it is a layer of the space-age material that is put in the gloves that are worn in outer space and then over that is a layer of buffalo hide.
Inside the hand part is the exact same space-age material sandwiched in between Grizzly Bear and Wolverine Fur. No you cannot write with a pen wearing these they are meant for survival only.
They are not good looking to look at but they will keep your hands from freezing to death and they are 100% waterproof and windproof.
They have been tested by professionals wearing them with their hands and freezing water for a week and all they did was change the models out. Yet leave the gloves in freezing water.
And after so many hours of the person getting tired the model another person takes their place and the temperature is taken in their body temperature on their hands never drops below 98.6.
I needed one of those coats while shoveling the past two weeks in the East...

I have one of those Jackets but to this day, the absolute best thing to wear in any cold environment is an environment suit or a SCUBA Dry suit.
Best way to buy a N-3B Parka is at Surplus stores. I have doubts over any of the newly manufactured ones. Also, it's very important to try them on as size varies a lot. I wore one walking the flight lines in Plattsburg NY in the 60's and was never cold.. Surplus you can get them all day long for $200

A good coyote pelt is one of the warmest and must durable pelts and is amazing for clothing and blankets

@ 3:58 I 'sandwich' a red Patagonia 800 fill down jacket, between two red thick [Canadian] flanel lumber shirts, because I didn't want to rip it. After 5 winters, it's still good as new. ... Then I did the same thing to a green Patagonia 800 down fill jacket 'sandwiched' between a grey thick flanel lumber shirt inside, and an M81 camo, U.S. army shirt on the outside. It's all because, like you say, the materials that are used for the shell of most winter coats are very thin and easily tear.

Looks like a great parka but the snow mantra and pjs mesh are around the same price and for a few extra hundred dollars there is the canada coat which i personally use. However it is a great coat but there are other options.
Coldest we got here in manitoba/winnipeg city, is -50, with the windchills feels like -62.

Hanwag abisko are the warmest boots I've worn. They retail at $500 but you can find them on sale. They are rated to -40F.

Waterproof.....why the heck do you want waterproof at the temps that this jacket is used at....you want maximum moisture venting and membranes are horrible at that in cold. Which brings up how does the jacket compare against wool layers and a traditional cotton canvas Anorak. For me the light fully boxed down jackets are better combined with traditional wool and Anorak outer shell. I would get a Anorak from LoTN, A good packable fully boxed puffy(not sewn a through one) and wool jackets and bits from goodwill and save a crap load of money for a better shelter and wood stove. But each to their own for each to figure out ...LOVE the choices we have. Great review CP

Very few preppers make preps for sub zero temps. Most of the serious prepper/survivalists that I see in these videos are moving south or have a retreat in the south. I find this hilarious since avoiding people will be the most important aspect for those wishing to survive, especially for the lone wolves like you and I. I feel it should be the plan or goal of every prepper to bugout or live in a colder region such your own, where there are sparse populations. The masses who can will be migrating south in a WROL situation, I will be going the opposite direction. If possible, to your area or beyond. South is for the birds. The Coo Coo birds.
