    For a really long trail of soft vegetation and saplings, I would want the longest and lightest I could get, saves the shoulder muscle and lets you use more elbow and wrist flicks. For heavy chopping, I like one that is weight and topheavy like an E-Nep.

    Same here! Bushcraft Parang, Discord Machete, Crocodilian, Speed Machete, and that Matagi knife are all things I'm looking forward to. I kinda dig that Condor is doing some socket handle stuff, other than Aranyik and the Cold Steel Bushman there's not much of that out there.

  • @WeAllJuggleKnives
    @WeAllJuggleKnives  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That Parang is pretty good, interesting that it is 0.25 inch thick for a narrow blade. I probably won't review it anytime soon, since Condor is already coming out with a bunch of new stuff, but I'm glad I got one.

    I have the village parang. There are three things you need to do to make it functional and efficient. If you dont do these you merely have a blunt heavy awkward thing in your hand.
    1. The handle is round and fat. Cannot close the hand for grip and it spins because its round. You need to sand the handle, reduce the diameter, form into an oval shape, reduce the huge knob...because it's so big the wrist doesn't rotate.
    2. Weight needs to be transferred from the heavy thick handle to the blade. Dead weight metal in the handle adds up to more arm swinging than blade.
    swinging. Let the knife do the work by reducing the handle weight.
    3. The blade comes with a low convex curved grind. Low means blunt like an axe. The combined negatives amount to swinging hard with little for efficiency and control. Burn yourself out chopping.. it's like a dull chainsaw..it doesn't matter how much you rev....it just ain't happening. The grind needs to be changed in two ways. First, the height needs to be raised. Its only about 3/4" or 1/5 the blade height. Needs to be twice that minimum but slight convex. At the throat near the handle it needs to be ground out so one can carve with it.
    Know that the village parang comes heavy dull and not efficient.
    You will hate sustained overhead work ..too heavy blunt and non maneuverable. It will annoy you that it does not bite no matter how hard you swing.
    You must do the mods if you want this to be outstanding.
    I did mine this way..no choice.
    Now it's a preferred tool...gives slick cuts...a flick of the wrist is plenty on 11/2" limbs.. very little swinging, the efficiency is in sharpness and forward weight transfer.
    I reduced nearly eleven ounces off total weight and it performs twice as well as the original

    Say Heah, For personal reasons, I don't much care for the 1075 Carbon Steel, Maybe it's how it's tempered. But I will comment on the Wilderness Tool since we're talking choppers. A a bonified chopper alone it's a small c sort of chopper, Also it's made out of the 420HC Stainless which I like much more which holds a pretty good edge. It's a 1lbs tool, But where it shines is in camp duty. Along the handle lenght is a sharp edge which I use as a knife, Then there's a hook that works great in clearing a camp and even making shooting lanes. There's a bigger hatchet and a small one on opposite sides which are connected with an arched semi sharp edge that's great to shovel and cut through roots as well of making a kitty hole. Yeah, I'm really surprised it never became a popular tool which I think it's a good one. a multi function tool that works very good with its design. Depending on what type of trip it is, but if it in titles bulding, and clearing of an area, That's my go to tool, Also if we're staying in camp I bring it along because I really like it as a camp tool, it's a very well thought out design. Yeah, I would recommend it and hope you could someday make a face-off video between the Condor Wilderness Tool and the Marbles Fireman Tool..Nice collection you have tgere, Nice. ,, ,, ,,

    More expensive than a cold steel machete, sure. But much more affordable then their swords. CS swords use 1055 Carbon Steel and these use 1075 Carbon steel. Not to mention they keep the handles simple, practical, and sturdy. I used to want a Sword in the $300-$400 range.....then I saw the Condor Machetes and I no longer want to shell out hundreds for something I wont be able to use for nearly as many things, nor be able to replace easily if needed. $80-$90 Condor > $400 Sword

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives

    I would be interested in your learned opinion about different machetes for different tasks. I mostly use mine for clearing brush, such as woody vines and green soft plants. For example, I have 3 lengths of Tramontina. The 17.5" blade seems too long. I tend to nick my hand w/o gloves on the 11.5. The 13.5 is close to perfect. I could have another 2" and not complain. I would really love your input on different types, lengths, curved, ect. used for grasses, cane, bamboo, wood, and the like. Thx.

    Which would you recommend for clearing small trees up to maybe 5" MAX in diameter? I ordered the bushcraft Parang, but I really wanted the larger and more traditional looking Duku Parang or Parang Machete. I imagine all of them will get the job done, but I just couldn't find as much in depth info on the larger Parangs

  • @paulie4x1
    @paulie4x1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Say Heah Como Sta, My Fav. Summer Long Knife is my Rodent Rucki, which I can chop with it late into the Fall even on heavier stuff. For the $$$ the Johnson Adventure Parangatang for me is a perfect size and very manageable, Even though I already had the BK-4 and the BK-5, But because I wanted the Becker Bundok BK-20 I got the BK-4 and the BK-5 and believe me no regrets, Although I almost didn't get the BK-20 and I was the last one to get the Limited Edition quick was the BK-20, BK-4 and the BK-5 I almost waited for the BK-20 to sell by itself, Then I found out that once they sold out the 450 Kits that's it and besides the BK-4 and the BK-5 are discontinued. So I think both will be collectors. I always liked my BK-5 which I teamed up with my BK-15 for a nice and lite pair that actually will take hard use. I could do most everything that I coukd using my BK-7 which I teamed up with my BK-17. I haven't used my BK-5 as a clearing knife because I like a little distance away from those priceless, But I do with my BK-4 which I basically got it for a chopper but my BK-9 chops better. But since it's called the Machaxe this is the smallest length that I'll use, after all it is a 9"+ blade, But the geometry does allow it to fare as a clearing long knife even if it's the shortest I'll use. But that Curved area makes it a very good slicer, So I teamed mine up with smaller blade, Like my Seal Pup Elite or my Bokor Black Rold and a BK-14 with scales or my Mora 510. Bit last week or so I dusted my Condor Golok off and started using it as my Summer Long Knife, As a Long Knife so far so good, The only problem I experienced with it is it rolled on me in some real cold temperatures. And I find the handle to be too round. But like I mentioned, So far so good, I sharpened it on my Work Sharp and that sharpened it up pretty good, Yeah it's been a while, How you frajole (How you bean).

    Thanks for the video. I am looking for a new machete, and It made sense to me to look for an imported make from a country that has a jungle. I see you think highly of condor so is this your favorite machete company or is there another? Does condor make your favorite machete? Thanks.

    How is condors bushcutlass? I've seen some reviews and some say the handle feels like a cheap hollow plastic.

      WeAllJuggleKnives I've had my eyes on the 14 model mostly because of the handle it'd be easy to spot out in the field, just not sure if I should get it or not? What do you think? Its only like $30+

    can the rubber handles of the condor combat machette be sanded down to make smaller or would sanding wreck the handle ? same goes for the different plastic type condor handles on the rodan type series as these handles are also too large for me to get a real good bare handed grip on

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure the handles could be sanded or cut, and then wrapped with some grip tape, and it would look okay.

    Great review, so after all the machete testing which ones would you say are the best for heavy chopping and the best for medium to heavy brush clearing?

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The classic Woodsman Pal machete is very good for clearing medium or heavy brush. For heavy chopping, one of the thicker Thai machetes (Aranyik), or a heavy Golok from Malaysia, or stuff like the Condor Warlock or Condor Engineers Bolo.

    Hey, I had a great question, I know we both are a fan of Condor, but have you paid attention to the Thai Enep Knife? Its large enough to be a chopper and I was hesitant to purchase it. I hope to hear back from you.
