I have no problem playing as Ciri. She's an actual well written "strong female" character. Like Ahsoka drom Star Wars or Mizu from BlueEye Samurai, they go through the challenges of being a woman without constantly mentioning it. They focus more on their role and become better while ignoring the adversities around them and not shoving it in the audience's face as if they are a bunch of impressionable 15 year old teenage girls instead of grown adults.
I'd rather play an established character like Ciri rather than a silent robot that you can make look like the green goblin in most RPGs. Character creation has its place, but the reason people loved the Witcher 3 was because of Geralt and his relationships with fleshed out characters.

As a huge fan of TW3, I’m thrilled that they’ve decided to continue the new saga with Ciri. They could easily have jumped hundreds of years forward or backward (which they could still do with Ciri’s abilities), but this choice may actually allow us to reconnect with familiar characters from the earlier games and remain in a well-established universe that TW3 has built up. The best decision they could have made. I’m excited!
People who haven't played the games should at least play The Witcher 3, as it would be a fair introduction to the franchise. This would also provide some background story for Ciri.

But you can see in this trailer that she is still able to perform magic in a way that exceeds the simple use of witcher signs. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

But you should read up on the Ign article where they state 13 new details about W4 from CDPR devs. It gives a lot of insight like she has the basic magical powers of a Witcher and also remnants of her old powers. My biggest concern with Ciri as the protagonist was always how overpowered she is. But in the end, it's CDPR who are defining this world and the lore. So I am sure they have found a work around.

I have a feeling that if she underwent the trials of grasses, her powers from the elder blood are likely very much weakened from it or eradicated entirely. Taking the target shes had on her back her whole life but also taking away a power thats saved her life many times. A nice narrative hook with her as a character.
I actually prefer the idea that she lost her powers stopping the white frost and the games will explore her struggle as she slowly regains the powers that she hated so deeply all her life.
The elder blood might be the reason they say she survived the trial. Remember all the witchers are men because the trial couldn't be survived by a girl Most boys couldn't survive it either.
That's exactly what I thought. She could have chosen new life over her old one, exchanging mutations for Older blood traits. Especially if she finds out she killed half the planet witch her ability to traverse spacetime.

Hope we can transfer saves from Witcher 3 in 4. I would love to maybe meet Dettlaff in the game as I let him live in my playthrough. Or maybe see if that potion from Witcher 2 took actual effect with Geralt (I had a whole trilogy run).
@sealomarshall2777 Some weird guys offer you a potion that would take effect in a few months and you can find a note about it in Witcher 3 which explains that the potion is meant to restore fertility in Witchers.
After those games, especially The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk (or Baldur's Gate), it's really hard to enjoy other games. They set the bar incredibly high, and few games offer such rich and developed content.

I've installed Jedi Fallen Order three times, but I can't bring myself to finish it-it's boring as hell. This would a be a valid reason for Ciri to need to start a new Witcher school (the school of the Lynx). Likely with Geralt playing a Vesemir like role for the new generation of Witchers.

She goes through trial of the grasses? I didn't think she needed it since she was already powerful in W3. I don't know how I feel about that detail but I am happy she's the lead instead of some new character we aren't familiar with. Her story always felt like it could be more.
When she stopped the calamity she lost a lot of her power. And she was always weaker/slower than Geralt and other Witchers. The trial of grasses is what makes her faster, heal much quicker, stronger, better with a sword. Ultimately, it makes you a monster killer. That's what she wanted to become.

It can literally be explained by her eyes; she experienced the witcher trials and witchers are devoid of all emotions and honestly that makes her character in the tw4 that much more interesting
Yes, but she is clearly displaying emotions, so it must be a different kind of trials/mutation. I think this is just not a situation where she'd laugh on the spot, she might laugh about it later when telling Geralt about this incident. Remember in TW3 her personality could actually change a lot depending on Geralt and Yen's "parenting" choices haha

To the book lore purists upset, the lore got retconed in the first game. So a little more isn't going to kill you at this point. If you want 0 changes to the book lore I got some bad news for you if you played any of the last 3 games... Second, I love they went with ciri. Best choice. This makes it much easier to integrate the rest of her family (familiar faces) to make cameos as NPCs. Lastly, I am glad they more or less picked a canon ending for wild hunt. And this was the best option. If I recall most of her elder blood powers gets drained at the end of wild hunt so hence she under went the trial of grasses to follow in her fathers footsteps as that ending in the game implies. Makes the most sense to me. If it requires a little retcon then so be it if it makes for a more interesting, deep game and story. Very excited!
@ girls taking trial of the grasses, adults taking the trial of the grasses, ciri using signs when it’s made clear her elder blood magic is very different to witcher/sorceress magic which she cannot do, geralt letting her take the trial of grasses when it was everything he did NOT want for her, all of this have been stated both in the books and games as not being possible

Who knows, there might still be some quests where you can play as Geralt, similar to how in TW3 you could play as Ciri in some instances. I think it's okay to have Geralt more as a mentor, someone you can go to for advise or help. Just because this game is from Ciri's POV doesn't mean Geralt is still around. Also, there will be a Witcher 1 remake ;)

I love Ciri, but it was not her who I was hoping to be the protagonist in Witcher 4. I guess many people are happy with CDPR's decision. But I strongly suspect this will be extremely divisive, with a lot of people ignoring/passing Witcher 4 (myself, lost interest now). Personally, I was pretty much onboard with a customizable character (a-la V from Cyberpunk, loved it!), from some other Witcher school with a brand new story and narrative but... alas.
@@philco8761 Absolutely false. The Witcher 3 had different endings. In one of those its implied that Ciri dies (Geralt as well). In another, Ciri becomes the Empress of Nilfgaard. In only one of them she becomes a Witcher.

Exciting to see how far Ciri can branch out with her abilities. Maybe even a magic built will be possible. Even with Griffin armor, Geralt always was a melee fighter. As Ciri is so malleable as a character, she could lean more into all kinds of stuff. Go the Yen way with more ranged attacks, the Geralt melee way, whatever.
They already disappointed hardcore fans who are seeing the utter distruction of the lore in the name of wokeness. Ciri has the most OP power yet they nerfed it just to remove Geralt or any potential MALE witcher.
This is not a nitpick I’m just genuinely confused - why would she take the Witcher trial of grasses thing? It felt like she was more powerful than Geralt in Wild Hunt 🤷♂️

Yesterday was the best day in recent memory... please the Witched 4 was unveiled which was the biggest revelation to me as an adult when I played 3... and then the Okami sequel was announced which was the biggest revelation as a kid. Ciri as a protagonist is PERFECT. Geralts story is done, he’s chilling now. We have grown attached too Ciri over the years, now it’s our time to play more of her.
If we were to get an established character as a successor to Geralt, I was praying for Eskel. He doesn't have multiple outcomes in TW3 (unlike Ciri and Lambert), is Geralt's equal, showed interest in finding proteges and making new witchers, and most importantly, is actually a witcher to begin with. He's very minor in the books and games, and hates the spotlight, so it would have been really cool to see him thrust into it and get a chance to develop.
Can´t wait for the people to call melt down, when they find out that Ciri likes girls. I mean that was written in the books long before but they will make a scene anyway. Mark my words
It sounds like they decided not to cast Jo Wyatt as Ciri for whatever reason. Changing actors always gives me the feeling that they don't care about the character: "just cast someone who sounds kinda like Ciri, who cares". Humans remember other people by their voice the most and changing that voice removes the familiarity. I'm not mentioning changing her face since this isn't in-game footage, but i wouldn't be surprised. Also, a lot of people who invest in a character also invest in the voice actor. Lame...

Ok if you finished Witcher 3 including the DLC it was fairly obvious Ciri was going to be the next main playable character. It also opens up a lot more gameplay opportunities that you wouldn’t have with Geralt. All for it.
I like ciri but I don’t think she should’ve been the protagonist. Also why did she go through the trial of the grasses? She has the elder blood and already more powerful than a Witcher, why take that unnecessary risk?
Once the hype cools down a little bit more questions such as yours will start to appear. There is some retcon here and some walking back on what made the ending of the initial saga satisfying. I suspect that the original writing team might not be the exact same one as for the Geralt series. As far as im aware, they were speculating back then after Blood & Wine that IF the series continues, it might be placed in a time way before Geralt, when monsters and witchers were in their "prime".

At first, I was hoping to be able to create my own witcher, but Ciri is so near and dear to my heart that that initial disappointment melted within minutes after watching the trailer. If CDPR learned from their experience with CP2077, then this will be something truly special. I'm trying not to get hyped because it will most likely be years before this game releases.
By far what is the most important tajeaway from this is that they are very aware of the mistakes in 2077's development and will learn from this (hopefully)

I’m beyond stoked to see the daughter of a Witcher and Sorceress, child of the elder blood and Destiny continue her story! It only made sense! I didn’t spend days playing this game to get the good ending to not see her again!

The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. Beautiful story, amazing open world, stunning characters, gorgeous soundtrack and very fluid combat. 10/10 for me
I honestly was more in the camp of wanting to create your own witcher. But if this is Witcher 4 and a continuation of the story from witcher 3 then it only makes sense to play as Ciri. Super excited for this game cannot wait.

The Witcher has a special place in my heart. It was literally love at first sight. The first time I’ve ever seen the Witcher was before the 3rd game came out and it was the 20ish min introduction to the game where you help Johnny get his voice back. I saw that and pre ordered it right away. I’ve then beat the game 4 times read almost all the books (I’m on Lady of the Lake) and now the 4th game is coming out. So excited. Also Triss all the way, screw Yen
I honestly believe they have learned from the Cyber Punk release and this game will release with a Nintendo level of polish. Also, The Witcher has a fantastic book series to use for the narrative ideas.
Even tho I am excited and interested in Witcher 4 with Ciri.. I personally think they should have just had Witcher 4 go with either a new character starting off in the school of th eLynx and we go through the trials of grasses and beyond so we not only meet other witcher children, build a relationship with them and bond with them, then go to main story of the game with these bonds. Even giving us a character creator would be great. The problem with Ciri is she's too powerful, elder blood teleporting sorcerror + witcher abilities and potions = easy mode. Honestly would have preferred to be a new witcher with Ciri being the head of the school and we learn from her and sometimes meet Geralt than to be God Ciri. but still excited to see more
To be honest I was a little disappointed to see Ciri in this deeper dive into the trailer. She is so powerful and seeing the trailer fight it almost looks like shes only using physical abilities to give monsters a chance. That being said - I love ciri and I’m exited to see what they will cook ! 😂

But you should read up on the Ign article where they state 13 new details about W4 from CDPR devs. It gives a lot of insight like she has the basic magical powers of a Witcher and also remnants of her old powers.
My biggest concern with Ciri as the protagonist was always how overpowered she is. But in the end, it's CDPR who are defining this world and the lore. So I am sure they have found a work around.

I have a feeling that if she underwent the trials of grasses, her powers from the elder blood are likely very much weakened from it or eradicated entirely. Taking the target shes had on her back her whole life but also taking away a power thats saved her life many times. A nice narrative hook with her as a character.
I actually prefer the idea that she lost her powers stopping the white frost and the games will explore her struggle as she slowly regains the powers that she hated so deeply all her life.

That's exactly what I thought. She could have chosen new life over her old one, exchanging mutations for Older blood traits. Especially if she finds out she killed half the planet witch her ability to traverse spacetime.

@sealomarshall2777 Some weird guys offer you a potion that would take effect in a few months and you can find a note about it in Witcher 3 which explains that the potion is meant to restore fertility in Witchers.
After those games, especially The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk (or Baldur's Gate), it's really hard to enjoy other games. They set the bar incredibly high, and few games offer such rich and developed content.

I've installed Jedi Fallen Order three times, but I can't bring myself to finish it-it's boring as hell. When she stopped the calamity she lost a lot of her power. And she was always weaker/slower than Geralt and other Witchers. The trial of grasses is what makes her faster, heal much quicker, stronger, better with a sword. Ultimately, it makes you a monster killer. That's what she wanted to become.

Specially Side missions like - Spoon curse, one with the trolls, last wish, possession, carnal sins.
I see alot of people highlighting that in the trailer ciri has lost her "laugh" and that in tw3 she had the biggest burden but never forgot to laugh and that in the trailer shes so smug. It can literally be explained by her eyes; she experienced the witcher trials and witchers are devoid of all emotions and honestly that makes her character in the tw4 that much more interesting
Yes, but she is clearly displaying emotions, so it must be a different kind of trials/mutation. I think this is just not a situation where she'd laugh on the spot, she might laugh about it later when telling Geralt about this incident. Remember in TW3 her personality could actually change a lot depending on Geralt and Yen's "parenting" choices haha

To the book lore purists upset, the lore got retconed in the first game. So a little more isn't going to kill you at this point. If you want 0 changes to the book lore I got some bad news for you if you played any of the last 3 games...
Second, I love they went with ciri. Best choice. This makes it much easier to integrate the rest of her family (familiar faces) to make cameos as NPCs.
Lastly, I am glad they more or less picked a canon ending for wild hunt. And this was the best option. If I recall most of her elder blood powers gets drained at the end of wild hunt so hence she under went the trial of grasses to follow in her fathers footsteps as that ending in the game implies. Makes the most sense to me. If it requires a little retcon then so be it if it makes for a more interesting, deep game and story.

I love Ciri, but it was not her who I was hoping to be the protagonist in Witcher 4. I guess many people are happy with CDPR's decision. But I strongly suspect this will be extremely divisive, with a lot of people ignoring/passing Witcher 4 (myself, lost interest now). Personally, I was pretty much onboard with a customizable character (a-la V from Cyberpunk, loved it!), from some other Witcher school with a brand new story and narrative but... alas.
The Witcher 3 could not have been more obvious in alluding that Ciri was gonna be the next protagonist.

The Witcher 3 had different endings. In one of those its implied that Ciri dies (Geralt as well). In another, Ciri becomes the Empress of Nilfgaard. In only one of them she becomes a Witcher.

Exciting to see how far Ciri can branch out with her abilities. Maybe even a magic built will be possible. Even with Griffin armor, Geralt always was a melee fighter. As Ciri is so malleable as a character, she could lean more into all kinds of stuff. Go the Yen way with more ranged attacks, the Geralt melee way, whatever.

Yesterday was the best day in recent memory... please the Witched 4 was unveiled which was the biggest revelation to me as an adult when I played 3... and then the Okami sequel was announced which was the biggest revelation as a kid. If we were to get an established character as a successor to Geralt, I was praying for Eskel. He doesn't have multiple outcomes in TW3 (unlike Ciri and Lambert), is Geralt's equal, showed interest in finding proteges and making new witchers, and most importantly, is actually a witcher to begin with. He's very minor in the books and games, and hates the spotlight, so it would have been really cool to see him thrust into it and get a chance to develop.
Witcher 3 has the best side quests, the stories in the side quests are better than the main story, it’s wonderful.
Can´t wait for the people to call melt down, when they find out that Ciri likes girls. I mean that was written in the books long before but they will make a scene anyway. Mark my words

It sounds like they decided not to cast Jo Wyatt as Ciri for whatever reason. Changing actors always gives me the feeling that they don't care about the character: "just cast someone who sounds kinda like Ciri, who cares". Humans remember other people by their voice the most and changing that voice removes the familiarity. I'm not mentioning changing her face since this isn't in-game footage, but i wouldn't be surprised. Also, a lot of people who invest in a character also invest in the voice actor. Lame...

Ok if you finished Witcher 3 including the DLC it was fairly obvious Ciri was going to be the next main playable character. It also opens up a lot more gameplay opportunities that you wouldn’t have with Geralt. All for it.

Once the hype cools down a little bit more questions such as yours will start to appear. There is some retcon here and some walking back on what made the ending of the initial saga satisfying. I suspect that the original writing team might not be the exact same one as for the Geralt series. As far as im aware, they were speculating back then after Blood & Wine that IF the series continues, it might be placed in a time way before Geralt, when monsters and witchers were in their "prime".

Look great and all but I wanted a prequel because this kind of wipes out some of the endings you can have in Witcher 3, making empress Ciri a non-canon ending.

At first, I was hoping to be able to create my own witcher, but Ciri is so near and dear to my heart that that initial disappointment melted within minutes after watching the trailer. If CDPR learned from their experience with CP2077, then this will be something truly special. I'm trying not to get hyped because it will most likely be years before this game releases.
By far what is the most important tajeaway from this is that they are very aware of the mistakes in 2077's development and will learn from this (hopefully)

I mean it is consistent (I believe) with what Ciri wanted back in the Witcher 3, she wanted to be a Witcher. The Witcher has a special place in my heart. It was literally love at first sight. The first time I’ve ever seen the Witcher was before the 3rd game came out and it was the 20ish min introduction to the game where you help Johnny get his voice back. I saw that and pre ordered it right away. I’ve then beat the game 4 times read almost all the books (I’m on Lady of the Lake) and now the 4th game is coming out. So excited. Also Triss all the way, screw Yen
I honestly believe they have learned from the Cyber Punk release and this game will release with a Nintendo level of polish. Also, The Witcher has a fantastic book series to use for the narrative ideas.
I was hoping we would be able to create our own character, but Ciri is bad ass, nothing wrong about giving the main role to her.
Even tho I am excited and interested in Witcher 4 with Ciri.. I personally think they should have just had Witcher 4 go with either a new character starting off in the school of th eLynx and we go through the trials of grasses and beyond so we not only meet other witcher children, build a relationship with them and bond with them, then go to main story of the game with these bonds. Even giving us a character creator would be great.
The problem with Ciri is she's too powerful, elder blood teleporting sorcerror + witcher abilities and potions = easy mode. Honestly would have preferred to be a new witcher with Ciri being the head of the school and we learn from her and sometimes meet Geralt than to be God Ciri. but still excited to see more

To be honest I was a little disappointed to see Ciri in this deeper dive into the trailer. She is so powerful and seeing the trailer fight it almost looks like shes only using physical abilities to give monsters a chance.
