For me, Woody's very best film. Talk about a warm, fuzzy feeling. This movie really brings one on, and sustains it throughout its entirety. Loved every scene, a cinematic triumph.
Ahh the casual violence of a pre-1980s childhood. So brilliantly observed here. Yeah maybe it wasn't right but we didn't really notice it, or certainly not in this context.
It's funny, because parents used to give their kids a good whack when they got out of line. The parents ALWAYS agreed with the teacher, rabbi or priests.
Elwood and whatsit Thought they were on a Mission from G_D. But Woody WAS on a Mission from G_d but he stuffed up and got into embezzlement. From there his life spiraled down... it is all about Karma....
There's in interesting visual gag in the Hebrew school when the collection for Zion is being discussed.. The Rabbi's hair cut and beard and bearing.. it is very similar to photos you see of Theodore Hertzl. I think there is no mistake. Woody picks up on things like that. Perhaps the word Gag is no appropriate to discuss this critical time in Jewish history.
