I'm pretty sure Asgore is close to depression. I mean he feels guilty because he killed six innocent children, he still mourns for his children, he is under pressure because the monsters finally want to come to the surface and his heart is broken and yet he remains and gives his people hope. Despite his problems, he helps him as often and as well as he can AND proves what an honorable and friendly man is. He puts the well-being of his people above his own and that makes a good king. Toriel has simply left the kingdom and left asgore alone and also reproaches him. Clearly asgore made mistakes but does he not deserve a second chance?
