Love watching Selah help, and hearing what she has to say about plants and farming. She is growing into a lovely young lady. Since not all the land got started growing in the same year, definitely can do rotating land Sabbath. I have seen recommendations about crop rotation. I only can grow in my "flower beds" as we live urban, so I don't know how I would do it. I have put in several perennial edibles, berries and etc., which we have enjoyed. I sure do get a good chuckle watching the ducks waddle along!!

Land sabbath! I love it! I was reading about it as we’ve been studying the sabbaths in the Bible recently. And I was thinking about how would we go about doing that when we get land? I guess you’d just have to be sure you Preserve a ton of food!! Either that or have enough land to wear you can rotate and be growing on one part of your land while what you’d been growing on for seven years gets a rest.
I get what you're saying about rotating the fields for a 7 yr land sabbath, but only if looking at it from a worldly perspective. But if u look at it from a godly/biblical perspective, I believe doing that would defeat the whole purpose of doing a land sabbath. Any type of sabbath is ultimately to honor God. Honoring God would mean letting it rest that year but in the years prior to that, growing and putting up as much food as is possible and then having faith enough to believe that God would provide for that 7th year.
Mike and Selah, I celebrated and rested the land on our urban Homestead in year 7 after 9-11 in the Shemitah year. I think it was 2008. We gardener in our tower containers and offered some of our harvest to the local food bank that year. Prayer surrounded this and recently I remembered that after that first year we rested the land, we have neglected to do it again. I think 2022 is another Shemitah year and we will likely join you in this. Bless you.

Wow, it seems like over night Selah is growing into a young lady. She is so pretty. She sure does compliment her Dad in the videos. I have been trying to talk my husband into a greenhouse this year. I am hoping to grow root crops in it over next winter. But first we re looking forward to SPRING!
Selha reminds me of my daughter crystal when she used to help us in our cleaning business my children always helped us till they got married and left home
I started my plants in half gallon milk cartons, the waxed cardboard kind. I cut them in half length ways, put the seed in and put them on top of the TV set that was always on and therefore warm. I put them in plastic bags and put a magazine over them for darkness. I could get about 6 of them to fit. I checked them often and as soon as sprouts appeared I replanted them in larger milk cartons and other containers. My husband built me a 'greenhouse using old storm windows for the south wall and that corrugated clear plastic for the roof. It was against the south side of the garage and was about 6 or 8 feet deep. I took my transplanted seedlings out there as soon as the hard frosts were gone. I did have an electric heater to plug in if it got too cold. I repreated the sprouting process on the TV as long as I needed to. This all happened many years ago, in the late 60's and 70s and I no longer am gardening. I do miss it though. Making do with what you have is the deal. I will say that I never had leggy plants with my method of removing and replanting those little sprouts. So when i see you guys starting seeds in those big containers I just cringe and wish I could share my story! And I just did!!!

Hey yall! I am so excited! I ordered from bootstrap farmer and you convinced me I needed 10 trays, 10 mesh trays, 5 domes, 1 black dome and 40 5x5 pots all different colors! Thank you so much for helping us vrow easier! Love yall so much!!!
I got my shelves set up in the basement and am getting ready to start brassicas. My 4 year old grandson likes to taste flowers and plants but he knows not to try a new one before he asks. He also likes to offer them to his 4 year old cousin but she isn't always willing to try.
That skirt Selah is wearing is perfect for activity. The ones she usually wears are so long I would trip on them. Also, many skirts are too tight for things like climbing over fences. I babysit so I have to keep these things in mind for that. The boys I watch are the same age as Micah and Josiah. I'm forever climbing up and down playground structures and hopping low fences. I would imagine Selah has the same mobility needs from her skirts for farming.

My daughter and her boyfriend took my grand daughter to a regional park to fish when she was about 3 y/o. They picnicked for lunch with fried chicken. Out of nowhere a Muscovy duck came up and snatched an entire chicken leg out of my grand daughter’s hand🍗... True story!
We're still going slow here. Our domed starter containers are take-out containers I've convinced my coworkers to rinse out and give to me instead of throwing them away and milk jugs. My daughter Micah goes through about 3 gallons of milk a week, so I've been saving all those gallon milk jugs. lol I've thought about Land Sabbath, too. We're coming up on 4 years in our house but last year was our real first year of gardening, and we didn't get a lot of beds going. Steady as she goes.

My mom who is 83 y/o grew up in germany. Her parents grew vegetables and raised chickens and rabbits. She told me my Oma always have baby chicks nettle, that it was very important. Just passing on some old timey wisdom.
Selah's PSA "Don't go picking stuff and eating it if you don't know what it is." In the 18th century farmers would put live stock like Pigs on areas where they would normally grow produce. The pigs tear up the ground but also feed the soil with their body waste. Some farmers use poultry as well. Do you use cover crops like clover to help the ground?
Hey you need to let Selah talk more on here. She's really a lot of help to you all and seems to enjoy what she's doing. You had said something about Justin encouraging you all and I also watch his channel and dearly LOVE how he teaches. It's less talk and doing mostly although he talks but as he works he is doing his chores and teaching all in one as he goes. I was going to ask someone for advise on growing from seeds because it seems for the past two years I haven't had much of what I planted to come up. I mean I can do a whole tray and maybe have 12 plants to come up. Since I started using perlite to cover the seeds I seem to have better luck. I even changed seedling soil brands this year and everything. I'm not understanding what I am doing wrong. I had several of my roma tomatoes come up and then I think I had the damping ??? off happen or my watering to much one. Although the soil was very dry looking. SO I have started watering on the bottom instead of the top and going to go at it again and see if I have success. Cilantro and thyme I have fits with! UGHHHH Can't seem to keep it alive for long. :( Going to have to do some more studying on seed starting. I am going to do me a greenhouse with cattle panels soon. Gathering up all my supplies now for it. I am so excited about that! I enjoy watching you all do your seed starting. Speaking of Selah, I'd like to hear what she has to say about that question she asked you. I bet she knows something about it and get her advise if she has any on the subject. You know like Justin does with his boys, they actually have some really good ideas to. Sorry this is soooo long!
Some of the "Weeds" you were pulling up out of the Lettuce from the low tunnel was NOT Actually Weeds, but wild growing Chives. We get clumps of wild growing Chives in our yard every year. You can add chives to soup, salads, eggs, etc. they will add a slight onion flavor. Plus when they grow wild in your yard and then mow over them it smells like onions! That is why I used to call them "Onion Grass", before I knew what they were actually called. lol
Here is what I do when things and thoughts feel as if they are spiraling out of control. Take a few minutes, take a deep breath, grab my cross and dog tag that has the Serenity Prayer, and say God help. My one grandpa did what he called rotational gardening. He had 4 good size plots. Each year he would use one then the next year another. By the 4th year he started again. He always told me that you need to let the soil rest and repair it.

Yes, That's when I 1st saw your farm when Justin Rhodes did he's grear America tour and I've been watching every since thanks guys for sharing it's fun to see you kids grow and as they grow and you grow as a farmer.

My mom who is 83 y/o grew up in germany. Her parents grew vegetables and raised chickens and rabbits. She told me my Oma always have baby chicks nettle, that it was very important. Just passing on some old timey wisdom.

In the 18th century farmers would put live stock like Pigs on areas where they would normally grow produce. The pigs tear up the ground but also feed the soil with their body waste. Some farmers use poultry as well. Do you use cover crops like clover to help the ground?

Hey you need to let Selah talk more on here. She's really a lot of help to you all and seems to enjoy what she's doing. You had said something about Justin encouraging you all and I also watch his channel and dearly LOVE how he teaches. It's less talk and doing mostly although he talks but as he works he is doing his chores and teaching all in one as he goes.
I was going to ask someone for advise on growing from seeds because it seems for the past two years I haven't had much of what I planted to come up. I mean I can do a whole tray and maybe have 12 plants to come up. Since I started using perlite to cover the seeds I seem to have better luck. I even changed seedling soil brands this year and everything. I'm not understanding what I am doing wrong. I had several of my roma tomatoes come up and then I think I had the damping ??? off happen or my watering to much one. Although the soil was very dry looking. SO I have started watering on the bottom instead of the top and going to go at it again and see if I have success. Cilantro and thyme I have fits with! UGHHHH Can't seem to keep it alive for long. :( Going to have to do some more studying on seed starting. I am going to do me a greenhouse with cattle panels soon. Gathering up all my supplies now for it. I am so excited about that! I enjoy watching you all do your seed starting.
Speaking of Selah, I'd like to hear what she has to say about that question she asked you. I bet she knows something about it and get her advise if she has any on the subject. You know like Justin does with his boys, they actually have some really good ideas to. Sorry this is soooo long!
Some of the "Weeds" you were pulling up out of the Lettuce from the low tunnel was NOT Actually Weeds, but wild growing Chives. We get clumps of wild growing Chives in our yard every year. You can add chives to soup, salads, eggs, etc. they will add a slight onion flavor. Plus when they grow wild in your yard and then mow over them it smells like onions! That is why I used to call them "Onion Grass", before I knew what they were actually called. lol

Here is what I do when things and thoughts feel as if they are spiraling out of control. Take a few minutes, take a deep breath, grab my cross and dog tag that has the Serenity Prayer, and say God help.
My one grandpa did what he called rotational gardening. He had 4 good size plots. Each year he would use one then the next year another. By the 4th year he started again. He always told me that you need to let the soil rest and repair it.
