- Everyone has a bucket list. Visiting a Snake Handling Church has been in my bucket every since I have seen Snake Salvation on the TV. It portrayed 2 snake handling churches Jamie Coots and Andrew Hamblin.
On Sunday November 29, 2020 myself and my friend Kevin Warren got to visit one such church in Squire West Virginia.
House of the Lord Jesus pastored by Chris Wolford.
We had a great time and when I am in the area, I will visit again and would recommend it to anyone.
Disclaimer: No, they don't make you handle the snake and the music was very upbeat and awesome.

Playing with snakes and leading people to Hell
The funny thing is, is that these same people preach against rock n roll, but if it's played in church where they can "shout" to it, then that's the holy ghost annointing.🙄. This is definitely not of God, and this is not Christianity. This is crazy and satanic in origin. These people are sadly deceived and are deceiving others.

Christ said in the Bible when Satan tempted him during the 40 days to throw himself off the high place. Christ said "It is written Thou Shalt not put the Lord they God to the Test!". This is taking Mark 16:18 out of context! they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” This refers to ACCIDENTLY picking up and bitten by a poisonous snake or drinking poison not intentionally doing so.

@ Al Pooser I do understand it. I also understand that angels are with us to protect us, but I’m not walking out in front of speeding traffic. God gives us discernment. I don’t need to prove my faith to anyone. When called to defend our faith (2 Peter 3:15, “always be ready to give a defense of the faith that is in you”), I will joyously tell people about scripture, about what Jesus has done for us on the cross, what He has done in my life, etc etc etc. When asked to defend my faith, I won’t walk over and pickup a snake. When I see people dancing and singing and handling snakes with the service centered around this, I’m confused over what they are worshipping. When I want to worship and praise Jesus, that’s between me and Jesus. I don’t need snakes to do this.

I've watched several of the videos of snake handling churches lately and I've noticed two things all of them have in common. The rock-a-billy style music and the rymthatic swaying and dancing of the people. I honestly think this has something to do with making the snakes less aggressive and more docile. I'm also curious about the fire. I don't recall reading about that in the Bible, unless they possibly use the account of the three men in the firey furnace in the book of Daniel. That would be a far stretch to use that passage to justify it though. the whole thing reminds me of Hindu snake charmers and the fire walkers in certain cultures.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for how strong their faith is, but you couldn’t pay me to handle rattlesnakes or drink poison.
In my opinion they probably know that the rattlesnakes rarely bite and they use things they pretend to be poison that aren’t.

@@cultfiction3865 I read the snakes aren't likely to attack because they are hungry, thirsty, and weak. The pastor's son says they only live a few months when they really should be able to live for years. They don't take care of these animals and they are rarely fed. Hence, tired, sick animals not in top fighting form.
Does anyone know whether the terrific noise volume has an effect upon the snakes?
From what I heard the noise doesn't affect them but the shaking does...

Are the species of snakes limited to rattlesnake and copperheads? Is the only poison they drink stychnine? The bites of the snakes mentioned are rarely fatal, and strychnine in small doses produces only halucinations.
What would be the outcome if a cobra, black mumba, or an Australian brown snake was used in the worship? And, instead of strychnine, how about lye, bleach, amonia, or cyanide.
Those are the only local venomous snakes in that area (mostly southern Appalachia).
Don't give them any more ideas. They just might try it and that would be on you for suggesting it.

Its almost impossible to get the type of snakes you mention. The point isn't to see who is the bravest bible says simply take up serpents it doesn't specify what type of venomous serpent. Wouldn't make sense for the serpents to be non-venomous but then again no sense in the serpent being wild and hard to contain in a public setting. Strychnine is easy to get then many other types of lethal poison, these people aren't look to burn their throats out with using poisons that burn besides occasionally you may get a participant who is maybe new to the doctrine and rush in and drink the poison without an anointing and you wouldn't want him to get throat ate up by a poison thats like battery acid. With posions that are subtle but lethal are idea because it gives some a moment to think about what they are doing . Nobody in the movement is wanting to die by snake are poison its not a suicide sect.

He is basically playing the same basic riff over and over with a brief little change up occasionally. Nothing difficult at all about wat he's doing, an intermediate or advanced beginner could do this. It sounds impressive or difficult to someone who doesn't play but it really just isn't.
Were I the type to make videos, I could certainly replicate and show what's being played here. It's just a simple bluegrass style riff.

I used to think that scripture said "IF" they take up serpents, but it says they "SHALL" so it seems these people may be more of a sound mind than we are. That means don't put God's grace and mercy to the test because sooner or later, it will come back to make you regret it. If you don't rightly divide Scripture, you wrongly divide Scripture. When you mishandle or misinterpret the Bible, from that comes all manner of error, false doctrine, and heresy.

@@fasterpastor4383 I agree, it would stand to reason that if God mandated the handling of serpants or drinking deadly poisons, then there should be examples of it in scripture, but there isn't, save Paul in Acts 28 (AKJV 1611) Paul shook a serpant off his hand into fire and it wasn't a worship service, or Moses in Numbers 21 its been suggested that's another scripture of taking up a serpant, but that is a very poor misinterpretation as God instructed Moses to construct a bronze serpant not a literal snake because the rebellious Isrealites were being biten by 'quote' serpants, they looked upon the bronze serpant and were healed. Save these two examples there is no incident of handling snakes and to use these incidents as well as Mark 16 as proof is totally a gross misinterpretation of scripture.

When the Bible says to take up serpent's it literally means that Christians have the authority to put away demon Spirits it does not mean to mock God and pick up snakes. What is wrong with people? And then they wonder why they get bit and die.....

@@cultfiction3865 Most anyone would pick up a non venomous snake, the issue here is that some doctrines of men and not God twist the interpretation of bible scripture and so they think God is saying to pick up venomous snakes and so many do and many die from it then say they had lack of faith. To simply put it what they do is a false teaching. Don't purposely pick up deadly snakes or purposely drink anything deadly...

Rattlesnakes and cooperheads are both vipers so yes this has been tried with vipers, Taipan isn't local to West Virginia so I'd imagine they don't use them, pretty sure these guys couldn't figure that part out
