That one observation you made about having space for a 'pickelball' between your elbow and torso and the timing of the forward swing solved all my consistency problems. Just got back from a match with very good players and the amount of unforced errors plummeted . Can't thank you enough
Seems that most of the the pro's use wrist-lag in their drives, a loose grip will help with that. It tends to create whip and topspin that keeps the ball in. You'll still need plenty of reps to become efficient. An eastern forehand grip works best for me with the swing at about 75% power..
I admit I will target even in rec play. But what I add to it is I normally drive hard at the weaker player but often if its an easy put away I drive it right at the stronger player. Thus you accomplish two things. 1. Your able to target the weaker player and 2. Your able to make it look like your NOT targeting as everyone seems be getting their shots. Plus this can REALLY frustrate the stronger player and even break their confidence as they keep getting spiked on. Its a little dirty....but as long as you use it with this combo and not just constantly hitting EVERY dink to the weaker player they normally wont even realize your targeting.
Yeah I think targeting is acceptable even in rec games, because it helps the weaker players learn and get better. I get it It’s not ‘nice’ to target in rec games, I also beilive people should play however they like in rec games.
In my opinion you control the direction by opening or closing your body, you wanna make sure at the point of contact, the paddle face is directly facing the direction you wanna send the ball towards
@@superdupr.pickleball Thanks! I'm usually in closed stance for both shots, but just slightly shift my footwork and degree of upper body/hip rotation to contact the ball based on where I want it to go. Hopefully this is somewhat correct as it's been the most consistent for me.
@@kabnis2022 yes, and honestly I see pro ls doing both open and closed stance, personally I think either is okay depending on what you are used to, yeah I agree with you controlling your hip rotation and where you position your feet ultimately determine where you will be sending the ball.
That’s easier said than done because the female may very possibly be the dominant player !! In rec level game , it’s very possible , so rather than to the female player , instead drive to the weaker player which can be the male player !! Anna Leigh Waters is a perfect example who you definitely wouldn’t want to hit to !😅😂😵💫😬🫣

Great point about loose grip and lowering the swing power

what grip should be used for the forehand?, Western, Continental, ????????
I have seen pros using continental, semi western or eastern. It just depends on each person, there are advantages and disadvantages of each grip.
Thanks
Thx for watching!
What about aiming? How to hit a cross-court shot vs a down the line shot? Is it footwork to align your body with your desired target?

Haha I know and I agree, to be more specific I think what James is saying is target the less threatening/aggressive player
