Aaron make a little cover on the launcher's arm because what's happening is that when the frisbee launches the arm is actually flipping it due to the speed and causing it to be facing upwards. All you need is to cover a bit of the frisbee when it's launching so it gets that frisbee-ish motion and be way more destructive but might reduce range.
You need to make a sling shot that has a base part which holds the grappling hook and have a cart that goes back to make tension, the hook will have a rope attaching to the cart that is released when there is enough tension. You can expand it even more by being able to pull the hook back to take down the wall.
7:11 I'd bet the red balls are some residual files from the devs trying to implement fire proyectiles, where you have to lit them. They said they where going to add fire, so it's very probable they are already working on it.
Then how do you explain the red statues from a few videos ago, were the devs trying to implement flaming statues as well? Actually that's a great idea.
Oh, whoops, mistook LSG for EctoSage for a minute there, he was the one who had the red statues in his video. My bad. The point was that they only turned red when placed in odd positions so I don't think it has anything to do with the cannonballs themselves.
so basically Aron you've discovered how to make a Glave Thrower you'll need to make a grooved discus with 3 or 4 Iron Blades and a cross bow that makes the discus spin and be able to adjust the firing angle angels - Also as a dev. note it would be a nice feature to see a firing arc for the projectiles of all ranged machines.
the grappling hook is not working because when you first link a rope, its maximum length is decided. what you have to do is start the grappling hook a long way away, and then "reel" the rope in all the way back to the drum. If you launch it afterwards, it will be able to extend all the way to the distance you originally placed it! From watching your video, the main problem I see is that the grappling hook will be too damaged to survive a landing at much of a distance, you'll probably have to make a box of sorts to protect the rope links.
I've got an idea - get two of those arm things and have the middle of the four-armed Frisbee be attached to both via a cable. Have both somehow released upon engaging both arms, allowing you to attain a smooth Frisbee flight. Maybe there could be some sort of cutter that'll separate the cables simultaneously... OR ACTUALLY no, I got a better idea. The same way you throw a Frisbee! You have a cable latch on to the front, one of the arms. Then you have a high-powered arm like was what was shown in the video move at high speed essentially flinging the poor thing horizontally as was demonstrated using god-mode. We'll be utilizing momentum in order to make it want to fly like a Frisbee!
With the arm you need a top to the whole contraption to keep the fire frisbee level while it is launching to hopefully help keep it level when fired because I noticed that once you released the frisbee of death it stood straight up or at an angle
I watched your peasant command videos and I think that if an update comes out where peasants will wait for their object, you could make a sort of waste disposal system. E.x. :peasant waits for cart to be full of rubble, another peasant goes to and fro putting rocks in the cart, when the cart is full, the first peasant pulls away the cart and the second peasant waits.
hey hey hey! 1:28, that's a potential for a car! since the stone stays hooked, the force of the catapult head pushing forwards seems to make the entire thing move forwards! it reminds me of the old space engineers stone+gravgen trick.
Love your SE weapons videos. Loving the ME vids too. Keep it up! We need different rope types for the different uses. Definitely need a "sling release" where the release angle is definable and the rope length is set by the distance from projectile to the throwing arm. Setting the release by projectile velocity is probably not ideal since the projectile usually reaches max velocity before reaching preferred release angle. --But releasing by velocity does open some cool possibilities for weird weapons and tech..............
As far as the Frisbee concept goes, why don't you try to pull it instead of push it. Pushing results in an unstable pendulum situation where it is hard for the projectile to keep level. If you pull, the system will naturally go towards a stable acceleration. If you pull from one of the legs and not the center, it should get a spin (depending on how well the physics engine works). This setup means you won't need the large platform to stabilize the projectile either. Great video, have fun!
What would be useful is an automatic trebuchet, with a wheel that the user turns (or turned by something else) which lifts the counterweight, then once it hits a certain point it is dropped and then fires a round.
You should try using the same concept for the frisbee except do it facing up. So make the projectile have lips on the sides and have the arm rotate towards your target and the ground. If you build the sled right you would be able to get the effect you're looking for.
Hmmm perhaps try making more of a ballista design where in it has 2 propulsion shafts the width of the projectile apart with one being longer than the other. with this it forces one side to spin faster as its still receiving force from the longer arm. As the arms spin under torsion they push the sled with the uneven propulsion shafts sending the projectile flying out spinning. To fire again recrank the coil ropes to set the arms back in place then winch the sled back into position. Load another projectile and cut the ropes holding the arms to let it fly again. i did my best to draw it in the message but in theory it should work. @ being coils of rope, / \ and __ being members, | | being propulsion shafts, ..... being cable/rope, and # being winches ( being movement) \ ----+---- < spinning Projectile leaving housing ___ \__ ___ / \___ ___ / |''| ^ \___ @ | | | @ \\ | | | |''| // \\ | | | | // \\ | |_____| | // >>> \\ |_______| //
Regarding those projectiles, why no build a ballista or something similar, it will probably give the effect you are looking for. And it might work for the grappling hook.
did you consider launching the flaming cross vertically and have a post attached to the catapult hit the bottom post of the cross to give the cross the spin you want?
Those detachments fancypants you were talking about, say you used some sort of tensioned rope as used in your catapult which could freely spin, and then add a spinner on the edge! Nice idea isn't?
instead of firing using the plate, try making a fork to set it in and add a small knob on top and bottom of the projectile. something that would support 3 sides of it but will still let it fly and apply the force to the middle instead of the sides. this would cut down on the resources needed as well as keep it from getting that flip it was before it left the firing plate.
Is there any way to get the projectile spinning before you launch it? Might make it more stable and you could launch it from something more like a ballista.
You can do it, use grapiling hook on cannon ball to it and make it be 90 degree and a little to the left or right, it will follow the cannon ball, but since it he to go left or right, it will spin. Or you could use a crossbow system.
You could builld sort of like a ballista. A round holder with 2 ropes on each side and then one rope at the back, the rope at the back gets reeled in and it works like a slingshot. Make a big one with guides on the top and botton ane make it fire the torcher round.
Wouldn't it be better just to have the spinning projectile come from an arm instead? Like, have the entire system moving, that way there is no friction between the torch-bees and the launching surface?
you should treat it like a sideways catapult maybe if instead of have a tray you had two limbs on the end of the arm that the frisbee fits into also does the concept remind anybody of the glaive throwers from Warcraft?
You could maybe lure them into a steel cart and then drop that off at an enemy castle. I've been thinking of like a catapult that launches something with a player inside, like very primitive air travel.
I wonder would it be possible to create somthing to fire a bola type weapon, two or more balls connected by rope and thrown, the rope hits the target and pulls the balls toward it, the only problem i see with this is that the balls themselves break easily so mid-air collisions would be a problem, still perhaps it is somthing you could try out.
IF someone builds a thing that launches these in a somewhat straight line it will probably be one of the best weapons ever (until the devs add some HAX stuff)
My question is, is there a physics based game with rope/cable that works like rope in real like and molds around objects instead of going through them? If there is isn't, is there a game engine that does this?
Arron, what if you were to build a close range weapon that would keep the hook on the cannon ball and somehow keep the rope on, then be able to get a winch to retract the ball back for reuse!
you can use the first thing you made as moveing cover cuz win you fired it it dident fire but the thing was moveing on it on and if you up grade it it can be moveing cover in your games
my i suggest an idea for a grapling hook? i think it might even work. 3:20, good idea. just make the cart enough heavy yo just stick to the ground ( so the force of the fired ,,hook"doesn't brake it. just like a Zip-line. ALL THE HOOKS IN THE CART MUST be attached to it . it's going to be ( point A-start/cart then u fire point B-hook) i hope u see this and i helped u :D
a siege ladder will be more effective than a grappling hook..... all you got to do is cut the rope. creating a fast deploy siege ladder that acts like a giant stapler ? maybe swings from laying upside down to being dug into the wall or mound. then you build you conveyer or climbing system
So with your current mechanical builds in Medieval Engineers are you playing with the structural integrity on or off. I ask because currently most of my mechanical constructs end up having some severe issues and allot of them are not large or cumbersome, they just explode or evaporate :). I know it is still pre alpha but others are having a bit more luck than myself.
I tried to launch those projectiles from vertical position, but it didnt really work and it would screw the launcher more than anything else. If you had the same thing in mind, I hope I saved you some time :)

I really love how so many games nowadays are so fun to play seriously and still fuck around

They become red as soon as you attach them to something

Put a cover on top of it to create a barrel of sorts, that should align the projectile enough to give it the "Frisbee Effect."
What if you added a top layer to the fire stick slingshot, to stop any unwanted rotation?
I've got an idea - get two of those arm things and have the middle of the four-armed Frisbee be attached to both via a cable. You need to build the wheels with locking mechanisms so they don't roll when you fire the catapult
Add a platform over the launch area, I notice the frisbee flys up away from the launch area as it gets close to the edge.
It's kinda cheap but what if you selected the rope connection on the cannon ball then fired it then attached it to something near by?
hey hey hey! 1:28, that's a potential for a car! since the stone stays hooked, the force of the catapult head pushing forwards seems to make the entire thing move forwards! it reminds me of the old space engineers stone+gravgen trick.
this gives me a great idea for a cluster shot
if you take out the floor and put it on the arm then you'll cut out the friction between the floor and the disk. it may help matters
and increase speed by adding more torsion springs.
Four woooden sticks, which can destroy stone walls and grappling hook built so, that in order to use it you have to go around the castle.
Love your SE weapons videos. Loving the ME vids too. Keep it up!

if you lived in the medieval era then you'd go down in history as the medieval iron man

This would be a cool Anti Infantry weapon. Imagine it shredding through ranks of spearmen and leaving no survivors.
Aaron we need more videos on your space engineers survival series with sage and tazoo it's so funny
Regarding those projectiles, why no build a ballista or something similar, it will probably give the effect you are looking for.
And it might work for the grappling hook.
How do u make dynamic objects closer or farther away
did you consider launching the flaming cross vertically and have a post attached to the catapult hit the bottom post of the cross to give the cross the spin you want?
Those detachments fancypants you were talking about, say you used some sort of tensioned rope as used in your catapult which could freely spin, and then add a spinner on the edge! Nice idea isn't?
is there a way to create rope tension with 4 posts and the crank wheel with a counterweight to launch it forward? as it unwinds?
instead of firing using the plate, try making a fork to set it in and add a small knob on top and bottom of the projectile. something that would support 3 sides of it but will still let it fly and apply the force to the middle instead of the sides. this would cut down on the resources needed as well as keep it from getting that flip it was before it left the firing plate.
Try building a balista/scorpion? Add your minecart "rail" as a guide, maybe you could use it to launch a bunch of bolts and utility projectile.
Is there any way to get the projectile spinning before you launch it? Might make it more stable and you could launch it from something more like a ballista.
Perhaps you could try mounting it on a ballistae. This would give the frisbee effect and make it mobile and make it very usable.
Hey Erin have you ever heard of chain shot?? its 2 cannon balls chained together...I'd love to see a video of how effective these are in M.E.
THE GRAPPLE CART MOVED BY ITSELF!
You can do it, use grapiling hook on cannon ball to it and make it be 90 degree and a little to the left or right, it will follow the cannon ball, but since it he to go left or right, it will spin. Or you could use a crossbow system.
Looking at your launching version you could create some sort of large crossbow turret or cannon like defense
Why not make a trebutchet?
You could builld sort of like a ballista. A round holder with 2 ropes on each side and then one rope at the back, the rope at the back gets reeled in and it works like a slingshot.

Wouldn't it be better just to have the spinning projectile come from an arm instead? Like, have the entire system moving, that way there is no friction between the torch-bees and the launching surface?
"Torch-Bee."
Now an official term.
this is so awesome!
To fix the problem with the 1st hook launcher, couldn't you just put the tether from the catapult to hook in the front of the catapult?
You want to put a roof on the frisby launcher so when the arm comes in contact with it there is only one way it can go and it will be level flight
Try anchoring one end to the ground, and fire the other end over the wall?
I hope they will add a way to shoot flaming projectiles in later versions.
press T on the boulder, release the projectile, then atach the boulder to the rope drum.If the boulder doesnt destroy itself, it will work.
you should treat it like a sideways catapult maybe if instead of have a tray you had two limbs on the end of the arm that the frisbee fits into
also does the concept remind anybody of the glaive throwers from Warcraft?
Is there any way of making Ballista i don't know if that has been asked.
i have an idea on how to make that experiment u were doing work towards the end of the video
You could maybe lure them into a steel cart and then drop that off at an enemy castle. I've been thinking of like a catapult that launches something with a player inside, like very primitive air travel.
I want more space engineers survival
how do you get smaller projectiles?

ahh man, u just made me wanna buy this game even harder
Awesome game, just bought it with Space engineers !
if you want the frizby effect you have to angle the platform
LastStandGamers it's funny man, when you get excited you start sounding like Lister :)
YO you should throw those fire frisbees at night time
nice video, were did you get all this cool idears? ;-D
IF someone builds a thing that launches these in a somewhat straight line it will probably be one of the best weapons ever (until the devs add some HAX stuff)
With Frisbee try maybe doing two arms at the same, and build roof. I think projectile will flight straight
why didnt you just put the return machanism infront of the launching mechanism
Hey could you make a ballista or something along the line
You know what you could probably do is instead of a shuriken style disc weapon, try for a bolas weapon. Might do even more damage even
is it possible to make a moblie siege tower?
My question is, is there a physics based game with rope/cable that works like rope in real like and molds around objects instead of going through them? If there is isn't, is there a game engine that does this?

when are we gonna see the next episode with sage and tazoo

wen r u goin to get back working on the berlin wall
What if you fire a stone with a rope eye and your holding a rope connected to the rope eye and when its fired connect it to a rope drum.
You think a ballista/crossbow style design would help with your circular torch ball of doom? :D
Just accelerate one "arm" of the Frisbee, that's what you would be doing in real life.
What if you put a roof on?
how do you find the game
a siege ladder will be more effective than a grappling hook..... all you got to do is cut the rope.
creating a fast deploy siege ladder that acts like a giant stapler ? maybe swings from laying upside down to being dug into the wall or mound. then you build you conveyer or climbing system
Aaron did you kno you could hook a rope directly to the cannon ball?
So with your current mechanical builds in Medieval Engineers are you playing with the structural integrity on or off. I ask because currently most of my mechanical constructs end up having some severe issues and allot of them are not large or cumbersome, they just explode or evaporate :). I know it is still pre alpha but others are having a bit more luck than myself.
You should make a crossbow kind of function
im going to build a ballista now
Catapult that shoots catapult that shoots stone.
Is medieval engineers a planet like in space engineers or is it an infinately flat landscape?
I tried to launch those projectiles from vertical position, but it didnt really work and it would screw the launcher more than anything else. If you had the same thing in mind, I hope I saved you some time :)
Typical aaron. Going for an grapling hook and ending in it being a weapon of mass destruction.
build one of them old style ballista/scorpion catapults
Pre-strech the rope so it doesn't pull the ball back
Hope they do
Can you make a crossbow or ballista
I want to see more of this game on your channel
what if you made a slingshot? picture two catapults... but on their sides
some advise LastStandGamers you can attach the rope straight to the ball
Yeah yeah. I'll try fix that in the next video.
I had my volume pretty loud at the intro, and these high quality headphones didnt make it any better.
Scared the living fecal matter out of me.

use a large arrow add a connector to the back and fire the arrow from a distance and pull down the wall
