I ran this river from BZ Corner to Husum Falls in my kayak with two strangers. It was the most athletic, scariest, most memorable experience of my life. I never ran anything that hard before, and have never run anything that hard since.
salmon swim up river to spawn correct..this damn was built over 80 years ago correct..So obviously, unless these salmon are over 80 there have adapted to spawning lower than the dam...I mean, I saw it on the video of these people grabbing them north of the dam, I assume they were already south of it. So tear down a dam for what reason??? I would imagine all the silt from the blast killed off anything trying to breath in that water.
For all that we humans take from nature I get a warm fuzzy seeing that we know how to give back even more to the point that you would hardly have known that there was a large concrete hydroelectric Dam, that was in service for almost 100 years, on this on this very spot just the year before. Great job. Off to a good start. Keep up the green work.
This makes me happy! I wish they would take down The Dalles Dam, Celilo falls needs to be restored, Its a major fishery and a natural wonder! All the other dams along the river can stay but The Dalles Dam needs to go!

This was fascinating, thanks for the upload.
Why didn't they save all that wood? That's about 250,000 board feet, plus the coffer dam. At $5.00 Bf. = $1,250,000
A fascinating video. Hats off to all the people involved in the restoration of that beautiful river.
Its sad to see such a magnificient civil engineering miracle to be destroyed... that dam was really beautiful :(

Some of the background on the removal of Condit Dam that wasn't apparent to the locals. Thanks PacifiCorp, well done.
Very nice video. Thanks for posting and have a nice day too.
Great Video! looks far better as a flowing river
A great video, very informative and well done.

Great, inspiring video.
Wait until the environmentalists want to use tax money to uninstall the roads.
Great video. The river looks 1000 percent better than when the dam was there. It sure is a lot easier to take a dam down than to put it up.
better to have the cheap, carbon free, 'lectric.
