Luckily, I see a few others taking on the role of recording and sharing these events, which is progress in the right direction. I was at the parade this year in the stands, which resulted in sub-par footage. The masqueraders were performing for and facing the parade judges, who were on the other side of the stage. The end result was me filming people facing away from me. If I were to post such footage all I would receive is complaints from people stating I was on the wrong side of the stage. They would not care that the my positioning was largely outside of my control, despite me requesting better access/positioning from the Festival Management Committee months in advance. This is drama I prefer to avoid, as there is no benefit. One option for those interested in viewing quality recordings of each event is to reach out directly to the Festival Management Committee (FMC) and ask that their media team share their recordings. The FMC media team and their partners are present recording each of the festival events, and do so positioning themselves in the best areas (e.g., around the judging area) allowing them to capture the best footage each year. Another option is for the bands to provide recordings of their presentations themselves. They have far greater influence than I do with the FMC and should be able to pull this off should they choose, given their resources.
I have to talk about two important people in the development of the Kings and Queens competition in the Trinidad Carnival, Tedder and Follette Eustace. In the history of Mas these two men were instrumental in creating new inventions in the design and build of King and Queen costumes. I can see their influence in all of these costumes!!
