code of honor should be for every man regardless the nationality or religion, sadly most man today do not take pride on their word, and that's what separate a man from a dog' god bless Albania
anyone knows, even our enemies when we give " besa" we die to honor it. You got to be Albanian to understand it, to know what it means otherwise is nothing. I dont even know how to explain it but i will give an example: say we are enemies, we are fighting and you killed all my family and for some reason you needed to talk to me and if i gave you that word " besa" that i wont kill you or touch you, you will be safe for that period of time. thats how big it is.
I'm 8 years late and not Albanian, but "besa" makes so much sense to me. If I promise anything to anyone, it's done. If it tortured or kills me, I'll still keep my promise and respect for them without hesitating. Promises mean more than the world to me.
There is a serbian tv show called Besa, which hijects Besa (the Albanian Code of Honor) from this realm of Honor and Humanity and puts it into the the realm of mafia and criminals, giving it negative connotations and promoting it as a property of mafia and criminals. In that show, there are only a few Albanian good guys, the rest of villans are Albanians (mafia and gangsters). While on one hand I am not one of those people who believe that crime-ganster-mafia shows like the serbian Besa tv show should be banned (bcs they spreadig negative stereotypes and prejudices against Albanians), I believe that those positive aspects of Albanian culture (like authentic Besa, which is based on Justice and Honor, NOT blood feud/ vendetta per se) should be made more visible and take much more media and public space than those naive and tasteless anti-albanian propaganda things that reduce Besa and any other Albanian cultural aspect to mafia and crime, spread in shows and movies like the recent serbian tv show called Besa, the "Taken" movie trilogy, or any other tv show or movie where most Albanians are bad guys. I think any intellegent person would like to see both sides of any coin.
Dont belive that, he is not a Jewish, he is a Serb, or one of them Rusion Jewish, that have nostalgy for his Serbian "cousines" The Jewish community loves Albanians for what we did.
Buddy this is not the news edition on CNN, its a video made about tails and legends. This story is taken from a very known western writer, and that is how he represent Albanian Besa! I like your version of the story though.
The root of "Besa", is "Be", which means 'to take an oath'. From the same root originates other words such as: 'besim - trust, faith'; 'besnik - faithful'. As you see "Be or Besa" is related to a proto-religious sense of an ancient God that was central on albanians character and culture. Until Christianity spread among albanians, the "besa", the oath, consisted into swearing on the rocks. This may be related to the goddess Gea, earth. An ancient divinity worshiped by many ancient cultures!
+JEBIVJETAR PRCOJEVIC my serbian friend told me a story of an serbian soldier who was in kosovo during kosovo war. The serbian soldier was left and deserted by serbian command and he was in woods for 3 days without food and shelter. Then he found an old house and he knocked door. There lived Albanian family. They took him in, fed him, sheltered him for a week. The serbian soldier found out in the end that the family lost 3 members of the family by serbians!!!! That is Albanian!!!
I’m Bosnian we are brothers with Albanians our dear brothers we love you
We aren't brothers by blood but by suffering similarly. You are slavs. We are not. It doesn't matter though. Huge respect and love to Bosniak people!
