One fills the empty void inside with excessive cleaning and the other with too much 'stuff'. Two sides of the same coin here, just different ways of coping with the inner pain and emptiness.
This was such a good one. And that is interesting what Janet said. A void. She’s right. There is something missing and I’m thinking maybe it’s self fulfillment. That may actually be true for hoarders and what about 600 pound people. I don’t know if it’s always about the pain in their lives because everybody goes through this stuff. Janet is good. I love Helen’s catalog in her clothing. When you have 600 pieces, you need to know what you have.. I thought she might catalog her arts and crafts. And that’s a good idea. Anyway, I love the show and these two women and I love them together. Helen is so funny when she was behind the couch.
At the very end of the video, it said that she wanted to be a volunteer cleaner for those who could use the help. That's far better than running a business she neither needs nor wants.
She wasn't the least bit hypocritical---she lives in a 4,000 s.f. house and has the requisite space to house her entire wardrobe neatly. Honestly there's absolutely nothing wrong with hiring a cleaner if you can afford it! Yeah, ideally he'd learn to do it himself but at least he recognizes it needs to be done. And his ex-wife isn't stuck cleaning up after him anymore!
It's probably from oils in the air. They build up especially around cooking spaces. You can use a damp cloth with a little bit of dish soap to clean it.
The hoarder is 'neurodivergent.' This is a word that keeps cropping up more and more often. Her brain pathways work for her - but not for people who are not neurodivergent. Hoarding also has to do with safety and comfort. The hoarder needs to be surrounded by stuff (walled) to feel safe. Lots of psychological trauma here - but they never adress this. Neurodivergents need to be taught different pathways in their brains, and this is a very long process.
@@elisekuby2009I do agree that this lady is clearly neurodivergent. However we don’t need to be “taught different pathways in our brains”- that sounds condescending and a lot like ABA therapy which often traumatises neurodivergent children. We just need acceptance. We’re simply a different neuro type. Also, just to clarify for anyone reading, not everyone who is neurodivergent has a messy home - my home is clean and tidy and I have autism, adhd and c-ptsd. Admittedly I have to live with a lot less stuff than most people because I can’t deal with a large inventory of things.
That must have been pretty darn hard on Janet, but Helen pushed through and somehow, that was exactly what she needed. She's got a lovely home she can enjoy now. So far I've gotten rid of lots of stuff in the last 2 years and even over the years and I've started selling my stuff as well. I noticed that people with obsessive cleaning have a capacity to reflect about their thoughts and they speak in a very logical and intelligent way. Hoarders speak in a more simple and pratical way.
Awwww! I love this episode! I'm definitely more like Janet, but I do (eventually) finish my projects and my works in progress are in tote bags (on the floor) so they don't unravel or trip anyone. 🤭😅
My stepkids' mom used to tell the kids I was just fussy/ dull/ stuck-up for wanting a clean house, and a meany for making the kids participate in cleaning. They were used to rabbit trails thru filth. Then the kids started to realize that we didn't have clouds of fruit flies, no cupboard moths, no ants, no moldy patches of carpet. They started to realize that their constant nasal congestion and coughs eased when they were at my house. They noticed that it was easy to find things when they wanted them, and that they felt good about having friends inside the house...

Substitute drug addiction for hoarding. Same principle. Hoards should cleaned up, period. Then the hoarder should. Be monitored . Hoarding affects others and should be treaded as a whole family is affected. The needs of the many outweigh the selfish needs of one oblivious, spoiled, egotistic, unloving family member. In the long run you really are not doing them any favors by mollycoddling them. You know these people a enablers, especially the psychiatrist.
The OCC woman lives in a 4,000 s.f. house and has all the space needed to properly house her wardrobe, so she can easily have 600 pieces. The other woman's house is less than 1,000 s.f., and doesn't have real closets, only wardrobes (which are very hard to fit much into), so she doesn't have the luxury of space to spare. There's nothing at all wrong about having an app to help a person choose their clothes for the day. It's no different than having a personal dresser who would come into the bedroom and rummage through the closet and choose one's clothes for them (it's what was done about 150 years ago in wealthy households).
@@jb6712 If you need an app to determine what to wear or how to catalogue clothing, you need to downsize. 600 articles of clothing? That's practically 2 years worth of things to wear and never wear the same thing twice. OCC woman needs professional mental help just for that, imo

Why does the mum set up a cleaning business & or an organising business. She has the skills & energy plus the time for it.
At the very end of the video, it said that she wanted to be a volunteer cleaner for those who could use the help. That's far better than running a business she neither needs nor wants.
The organization wardrobe app she created is very cool. I would definitely try that. My closet doesn't look like hers but neat.
I think it's brave to open your life like that to help others with their own issues
The hoarder lady probably has less stuff than the organised lady, she just has less space.
Bien pensé 👍🤔😉
Yup
No, Helen has 600 pieces of clothing while Janet had 800
She's kinda hypocritical when she says she has too many clothes and she herself has 600 items...
She wasn't the least bit hypocritical---she lives in a 4,000 s.f. house and has the requisite space to house her entire wardrobe neatly.
The other woman's house is less than 1,000 s.f., and there are no closets, only wardrobes, so she can't have as many clothes because she doesn't have as much space.
@@jb6712 by your logic, if the other persons house is 4000 sqft and she can have 600, then this woman is allowed to have 100. I didn't see that many, she just needs to get them up off the floor.
@@noth9617she definitely had over 100 items. Well over. They only showed a few individual items but if you pay attention to the floor and even the finished clean closers, she had a ton of clothes even after the clean up. It’s also a lot less about the number of clothes and more about that she clearly had a habit of hoarding things she doesn’t need and it’s bad for health and home.
Her house is actually a very nice house. I’m happy for her!
I know someone ( Male) who insists he is not "Domesticated " insists on hiring a cleaner every week, who can't Iron a shirt or put a washing machine on. His wife totally spoilt him, ( now separated ) he has no idea how to efficiently sweep the steps on the terrace, hence ignores it. Incompetence or Ignorance that is not the Man's role? I was taught from an early age to - Cook, launder, basic sowing, buttons etc, Iron. My father was ex forces & has stood us in good stead as adults. Last time I was in his house, he still had his Xmas cards displayed in August! It must be a form of Mental health problem?
Honestly there's absolutely nothing wrong with hiring a cleaner if you can afford it! Yeah, ideally he'd learn to do it himself but at least he recognizes it needs to be done. And his ex-wife isn't stuck cleaning up after him anymore!
Wonderful women. They both had me smiling and giggling.
The dirt on the glass light fitting !!! Where has that come from? I get the dust but the muck is a bit much.
Looked like fly 💩
It's probably from oils in the air. They build up especially around cooking spaces. You can use a damp cloth with a little bit of dish soap to clean it.
Aww i hope they stay in touch thatd be nice
Those poor kids….
I expected to dislike the “ messy “ homeowner, but they were both delightful. It was a joy to see positive interactions..
I really can't comprehend this chaos......how can anyone exist in this?
The hoarder is 'neurodivergent.' This is a word that keeps cropping up more and more often. Her brain pathways work for her - but not for people who are not neurodivergent.
Hoarding also has to do with safety and comfort. The hoarder needs to be surrounded by stuff (walled) to feel safe.
Lots of psychological trauma here - but they never adress this.
Neurodivergents need to be taught different pathways in their brains, and this is a very long process.
🤷 Don't know
@user-oi6in4eq7b poor mental health
I’d honestly rather live in the messy house than the over-clean soulless one.
One needs a find a job and one needs to learn how to finish a job she’s started😂😂
To me, both houses are not comfortable to be in.
That must have been pretty darn hard on Janet, but Helen pushed through and somehow, that was exactly what she needed. She's got a lovely home she can enjoy now. And I truly appreciate, that she helped Helen see, that her skills could be of greater benefit, when shared with the world.
Both are lovely ladies, each somewhat overwhelmed by their own issues and now on steam for an even better future.
this kind of tidy peoples deserve to get paid ! she helped others and thats things she like to do ❤
btw both awsome friendshil energy 💕✨
Oh my goodness, I would LOVE to be paired with someone to help them organize!!! It’s one thing I am extremely good at, and have considered creating a business out of. How did you connect the two? Is this only in the Uk?
Have you got a local Website? Many people would pay decent money for your skills. Price in the need for a skip, or the cost of petrol for going to the dump/dropping boxes for good will/Charity shops. Please wear a decent mask. Best wishes ❤
I know people think the compulsive cleaners are bad but I kinda admired them and wish I was like them because I'm like these hoarder people. I love buying new things and I've also got lots of presents for birthdays and Christmases that I love, so I have accumulated a lot of stuff including crap over the years.
I have a phobia of cleaning and tidying for some reason yet I feel bad that I don't.
I have started getting rid of stuff. So far I've gotten rid of lots of stuff in the last 2 years and even over the years and I've started selling my stuff as well. It seems no matter how much stuff I get rid of there's still a lot of stuff.
I wish I was a little bit more like Helen. Not as extreme but alot more like her
I love it when Janet says "Things could have been woooorse". LoL
Look how quickly she went out with her dog 🐕 it had to pee with in 63 seconds as she has a time schedule to polish her walnut dining table for the 8th time today. This person needs something!
I noticed that people with obsessive cleaning have a capacity to reflect about their thoughts and they speak in a very logical and intelligent way. Hoarders speak in a more simple and pratical way.
"I talk to the dog but he doesn't respond" 🤣
The hoarder has talent with creativity
Awwww! I love this episode! I'm definitely more like Janet, but I do (eventually) finish my projects and my works in progress are in tote bags (on the floor) so they don't unravel or trip anyone. 🤭😅
The messy woman reminds me of the Simpsons cat lady. 😂
So the grass growing over the edge bothers her more than the unevenly hung pictures in the living room. All right. 😵💫
O c d is crazy
They are lovely! The very clean lady needs an outlet for her amazing organisational abilities. She would feel very happy and fulfilled! She can start with my place 😅 ❤
I love cleanliness!
Small places CAN be tidy!
Two absolutely fantastic Ladies.
These ladies are adorable and caring people. They learned from one another.
They were so sweet to one another! Im so glad they seem to be caring women!❤️i expected it to be worse lol they helped one another they both needed a good friend:)
All the quotes in her house motivated her to be a hoarder
That was an amazing episode!
It's important to clean and tidy up the house. it's just common practice where I'm from.
So true. 😊
I get up have my coffee and clean once each morning that's all it takes.
"You can't keep all of this." Says the woman with over 600 clothing items and a stupid app to tell her what clothes to wear.
Yeah - why would you need an app to tell you what to wear?
But she has a giant house, so she has the space to store it neatly
I laughed at it
My mom told me that when she was younger, her mom would deep clean the house every single day. Vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing toilets and showers, dusting, etc
Dont worry cousin, im not judging you. Your house is incredible! you keep enjoying making it look beautiful. i know i would.
Both lovely ladies!
So they’re BOTH nuts…
Helen. You are so talented in organizing. You could make a business out of that
theyre gentle in different ways - how intriguing
These women are two sides of the same coin. Also, they are both so sweet 😭
A dead hamster and shits under the couch says sth about mental health of inhabitant...
They're both trying to fill an inside void, in completely opposite ways.
No one said a word about Helen's neatly trimmed hole 🫢 🕳️⛳
love the total opposites!!😂😂❤❤
I just did my brothers house.. I had compacted mouse mess, and the hoarders cluster and 'stuff ' ....I got a,two man can in and filled it . We are two thirds through . It's very tough.
