Yeah, the design of monkfish is really good against weapons that hit because it just flies and the wheels/legs are designed so it's always upright. The only weakness is to melt the wheels, and other things along the way.

Dutch Oven is the best flamethrower bot I've ever seen, not even Mixtape's bringing enough heat to melt the entire cage. This fight was insane and I'm kinda shocked it went to 3 minutes.
It was pretty dead pretty fast, reduced to the the equivalent of an angle grinder with the trigger zip tied down, impressive that the motors and wiring kept up though.

They did beef up the arenas after this, the main thing they did was change the materials of the camera housings and fasteners for the lights and timer, so they were no longer 3d printed. Cage 3 specifically has also been altered to be better suited for flamethrower fights: the ceiling was raised so the flames are less likely to hit it directly
Dutch oven has a lot of potential.. they need to give it a cone of some sort to direct that flame a little. I think that’s why it’s so ineffective. It’s just going out everywhere to the point where it even lit itself on fire
Does anyone ever use a liquid fuel? Outsider here, but I feel like pressurized petrol or napalm like mix would work way better than what appears to be pro/butane. In fact, something with aluminum, or even an oxide mix, when used as a fuel additive, should work better. Load a gallon, blow the whole gallon in a few seconds and let it do it's work. (That said, looking at it now I doubt they want thermite weaponry)

Modern flamethrowers instantly cooks up humans. It's called thermobaric explosions. Can't say for NATO, but Russia have Heavy flamethrowing systems TOS-1m (on tank chassis) and TOS-2 (on truck chassis). Also have infantry variant RPO-A Bumblebee, which shoots thermobaric rockets. Classic flamethrowers are more outdated, because it's pretty vulnurable, huge and clunky in use.
Here's a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff from last year. You might have a few hours, but you're only guaranteed ~20 minutes, so you have to optimise your design for easy teardown and rebuild.
NHRL's robots are 3lb, 12lb and 30lb weight classes, also known as beetleweight, hobbyweight and featherweight respectively. Robot Wars from series 1-7 ran 30lb, 50lb, 100lb, 175lb and over, aka featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight respectively. TLDR: yeah, the biggest bots of NHRL are the smallest of Robot Wars' bots

The cages have negative air pressure systems, so anything gaseous inside the cages is vented up and out of the building. It also means that nobody has to evacuate if something like a butane tank comes loose (which has happened). The cage is kept locked and is stood by from fights until the tank is emptied
i know those cages are built tough but i kinda worry what would happen if all that fuel got ignited at once :| maybe they have regulations around the quantity and types of flammables allowed tho so im sure they have thought about it?
Looks like dutch oven need to be redesigned to make the fire smaller and more directional, to reduce the chance of self-immolation and increase fuel efficiency so that it lasts the fulm round. But if it is already banned, then 🤷

I enjoy the more unique and rare weapons, but also enjoy the brutal melee weapons. It seems like it should be two different leagues, so both avenues of advancing the technologies/creativity can be pursued. Though, they will need more protection layers so no one gets hurt.

I really think these lower weightclass robot battles might be overtaking the big boys in the near future if they havent done so already. You can go a lot crazier with the innovation and weaponry at the comparatively smaller scale without there being as big of a risk for costly arena destruction and safety hazards. Love how you're willing to allow a flamethrower on wheels or two buzzsaws glued together wibbling around on some brushtips to compete, and the carnage that follows.
