Thanks for sharing your advice… So many great points mentioned here! My favourite of which is to look at retail prices rather than comps on eBay. I sell mostly bread and butter brands such as white stuff, fat face, phase 8, Reiss, et cetera, and was absolutely amazed how much prices have increased recently and have repriced some of my stock accordingly.
But also if you sell vintage and handcrafted items, make sure to mention the work that goes into making those items and how exclusive they are, because most modern clothing doesn’t have that same level of quality.
Also I very much agree that, most times, you get out what you put in, as regards describing condition, colour, measurements as well as sizing and have decent photos the prices increase and the stock get sold quicker. It is better to sell less, after all more stock needs more Storage which costs money in itself.
I think it’s also a very important point to accept returns. A lot of sellers are reluctant but if the buyer isn’t happy, they will open an item not described case anyway, leave negative feedback and kick up a fuss. So this helps to minimise that situation.
I would also like to point out that I used to think also that reselling was all about designer brands. But looking at my biggest sales, they’ve been mid market and vintage items. The Maxmara, Dolce and gabbana is sitting around forever waiting for a buyer. So as you have very much pointed out in the video, it’s full of surprises and all about the buyer’s whims, and about the right marketplace for the right buyer.
    Thanks again X

Thank you for such an eloquently presented, well thought out video with lots of well reasoned arguments against the “race to the bottom” culture that seems to be prevalent on eBay. I have seen the impact it has had on lots of stuff, from board games to high end electronics and home electricals too. Thank you for the extra filtering tips, to be honest I hadn’t thought of that although I always scroll through to find the highest soles and pitch mine about the same. A great point! I recently helped a friend with his listings. I said he was too cheap and the photos weren’t goo enough. I more than doubled the price on a listing for him and filled it with much better photos. The garment sold within 24 hours at the newer price that was more than double what he originally priced at. Now he prices his items like I do and takes good photos. 😊

Brilliant video guys. I think the economic situation will impact a lot of people's businesses in time as I predict quite a dark depression. I think in your situation that in a weird way comps don't really matter because your item will be so different to all the others out there like you explained. Keep pushing those comps up, especially when inflation is running at 20% when ignoring all the fudged government data.

Another Brilliant informative video from you guys. As an avid follower on all your platforms I've seen past vids where you advise/explain 'List Up'.
Another downside of most selling platforms, is when you do a search through comps, looking what to price your item at they always suggest the cheaper end items as they want you to sell quickly so they get their Fees.. x

Hi Bethany & Austin, I try to keep prices as high as possible for all the reasons you are saying, it’s like everyone else is in a race to the bottom, very frustrating when you have a good quality, excellent condition item and you see comps for £25-£30 seems the ball park figure at the moment on EBay !!! I think a lot of people just want a quick profit & turn over which is detrimental to the reselling market on a whole, we who are trying to keep the market up are left holding a lot of the time. It’s madness out here as a seller… love you guys ❤

    • @Ian.Does.Fitness

I tend to hang on and wait until the cheapo sellers run out then I sell my stuff. It’s hard work getting stuff to sell so I’m not letting it go for nothing! It’s concerning though that these people don’t realise they are adversely affecting the market…

In the last year from doing TH-cam we’ve had one subscriber sale, which was on our other eBay account and one on vinted.
I do in all transparency think we get watchers from the Channel over to eBay however these don’t equal sales just traffic, which is probably a good form metrics, however it doesn’t effect the prices we achieve. If that makes sense.
I know some use TH-cam as a platform to sell, this really isn’t of interest to us. As much as sharing knowledge to make higher prices.

Ooh, after watching this I'm going to set my own price for the black nova check Burberry golf jacket I picked up just before Christmas, simply because it's embroidered with the 2001 Royal Lytham St Annes open golf logo and I can't find any others at all apart from a visually similar one on Depop. I've been back 3 years via terrapeak on ebay and there's nothing in the same pattern showing up.

Completely agree, applies to my vintage goods category also. i often price using etsy prices which are higher than ebay but often i still get the sale on ebay. i think good photos, feedback, etc is a big factor.

    • @theluxurypickers
      @theluxurypickers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

100%. Even items we know will get the sale on Vestiaire like your Etsy we will price the same on eBay and eBay will get the sale. There’s always opportunity to achieve more, if It’s selling higher on Etsy there’s obviously a demand for it that eBay hasn’t caught up on or historicity has been priced out on eBay.
      It’s all very interesting.
But yes the combination of a good quality listing helps hugely.

  • @jasongurney5349

I didn't realise till I started reselling that I was a goldilocks buyer.. I'd see 3 items exactly the same but at 3 different prices. I'd think the lowest price one must have a problem and the top price one is trying to rip me off. So I'd go for the middle price one thinking its safe. 🤣 Apparently its actually a thing and often think about this when I'm listing.

I just wanted it gone". Then in the next breath complain about the race to the bottom. I always sort by highest price when I do comps then price accordingly. And wait until the right buyer comes along. Works for me. NB - I have a small store currently.

Because this was a video about selling, getting the best prices for your items and helping the community with a different idea.
      Not a buying video.
And if I were to buy up all the product on eBay that was underpriced and Vestiaire, depop etc I would I literally need 100’s of millions of pounds. So maybe in the mean time sending a little help to the community is a good idea.
And if the general reselling community raise their prices even 20% then I can rise my prices again 20% so it’s a win win win.
But feel free to start buying Escada trousers! A little free tip off there too…

Really Like your ebay selling model really helpful maybe but I'm just thinking it would be difficult to source high end items regularly ?. Your ideas are great thank you

We sell high end as well as high end high street and that lets us source more than enough product for our store! 👍🏻

I’m only at 17:28 of you video, but guys i know exactly what you are saying. I rarely go into shopping centres etc, as they aren’t my bag. I went recently to my local shopping centre with my best friend as she wanted to go into All Saints. As resellers, I think you will agree, All Saints is a flooded market and “comps” are not great. Obviously some items go for more than others, and the older label stuff sells better, but generalising - like your Fred Perry example, it’s not one of the high end high street brands for good sale values. Anyway, I nearly died when I was looking at the price tags in the shop. Hardly anything was under £200, I saw a couple of basic dresses - nice, but nothing earth shattering, both priced at £299. I know this is current season, but my mind got to thinking that if I could source that dress, there should be nothing stopping me for example being able to resell that for £200+ (at least), because it’s a 1/3 off retail, so still a bargain, and a buyer genuinely seeking that dress out would be happy with that in my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I know most people would scoff at selling an all saints dress for £200.
Before you guys ever came on the scene, this whole topic used to boil my blood, as the market is getting driven down in many areas, not just clothing. I deal a lot in women’s footwear, and seeing the prices dive breaks my heart. I have only started diversifying away from fashion this year into other categories, but I am glad someone is now giving a voice to the problem that has been bubbling away for some time now.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment but All Saints is a great example. 👌🏻
Regarding giving a voice I think we should all be ‘shouting up the comps’ from the rooftops! 😂😂

Spot on once again, great advice! Drives me mad when I watch a TH-cam video and the person shows comps then says " I'm just going to price slightly lower to undercut the market and get a quick sale"!! Affects us all in the long run!

Great video it’s given me some pointers. I will definitely try the methods you suggested but I’m a bit worried it will affect my sales, as it’s my only income. I usually price mid-range. I would love to see a solds video from you guys soon too😊

100% completely understand. And also understand everyone has different circumstances and businesses in general.
We just wanted to share how we viewed it, it may help the way you filter comps or look at some brands and that’s super cool.
And it might also help people understand our business model more and why we say the things we say!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Totally changed the way I approach my pricing, thanks so much! Quick question: when you list on ebay, how much detail do you go into? What do you think is the best balance to strike between coming up high in the search listings and time spent on listing? Thanks as ever for your reselling know how and support!

Why do you not include measurements in your listings? Does it increase your returns rate?

    • @theluxurypickers
      @theluxurypickers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Time efficiently in the most part. We do include dimensions on handbags etc it’s something we have explored and fitting it in our schedule. Due to volumes we process.
However our returns rate remains under 2% on average per 200 orders.
I’d much rather have a return for fit, which happens regardless of measurements in some cases, then ‘not in received condition’ due to poor photographs or undisclosed information. Which effects your metrics.
If measurements are requested we give them.
There is much more importance is good quality photos, customer service and titles and descriptions.

Thought it was a great point and topic for a video. Multiple people addressed the same point, and we realised we had never taken the time to talk about how we do things!
It’s hard to explain in these tiny comment boxes! 💕💕
