For those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of this Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound. For those who don’t know about female voice types, a contralto is the lowest female voice type and is very rare. First, to answer a very common question about Diana's vocal range. In 2017, her range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, about 4 years later, her functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's all about her timbre, the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. A little background on "The Queen of Goosebumps" As a contralto with a wide range, superb emotive abilities, extreme laryngeal control, and polyphonic overtones, Diana is a vocal unicorn. She may very well be utterly unique. Despite an extremely harsh early life (see below) and all the accolades and success she has had as a young singer, she is, by all accounts, an incredibly smart, grounded and humble young woman. ~~~ Diana's birth mother was an unmarried alcoholic. Diana was the first of 12 children to survive childbirth. As a young child (age 3) she was abused and nearly drowned by her mother, then thrown out into the street in the winter with a broken arm. Her relatives didn't want her so she ended up in an orphanage. Fortunately, she was adopted by a lovely lady who worked there as a masseuse. She took singing lessons as a therapy for her speech problems. A TV documentary revealed that the immense stress of her early years eventually resulted in a nervous breakdown. After suffering recurring nightmares about her birth mother returning, her adoptive mother moved her far away. Welcome to the extraordinary sound of one Diana Ankudinova! For those that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of this Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound. For those who don’t know about female voice types, a contralto is the lowest female voice type and is very rare.
First, to answer a very common question about Diana's vocal range. In 2017, her range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, about 4 years later, her functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's all about her timbre, the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
General conciseness by some professional voice teachers on how Diana can produce such a deep and rich sound has a lot to do with Diana just being born with unique vocal anatomy. Her vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx appears to be bigger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than most female singers which give her the ability to produce such deep, rich sounds. Diana is also a true polyphonic singer which is also an extraordinarily rare talent. A polyphonic singer is defined as a singer who has mastered a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like two different voices singing at the same time. To have s singer as young as Diana master this technique is impressive and extremely extraordinary. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using auto-tune, a voice synthesizer, a vocoder or pitch correction software, or some other artificial form of electronic voice manipulation to alter or adjust her sound. Others think another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. There is no artificial manipulating of any kind going on at all. This is a very prestigious vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use the equipment provided for her as all the other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her to bring in, let alone set up, calibrate and test any extra electronic vocal manipulating equipment. What you are hearing is all Diana Ankudinova.
Female singers usually don't reach full vocal maturity until they are somewhere around 24 to 28 years old; some reach it sooner, others, later. I am thinking Diana Ankudinova is already way ahead of schedule in reaching vocal maturity. I look forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach her full vocal maturity. When she does she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage live performance skills. When that day comes, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold on stage and a vocal force to be reckoned with.
Diana took part in the “ ShowMaskGoOn on” vocal competition in September of 2021. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that compete against each other and also award judging points. The judge on the top row that stands up first is the famous Russian opera singer, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. and the blond woman in the red dress stands and looks shocked at the end of Diana's performance and puts both hands on the top of her head in what looks like total disbelief also knows she is listening to a generational talent. Finally, Diana also won this competition.

A little background on "The Queen of Goosebumps"
As a contralto with a wide range, superb emotive abilities, extreme laryngeal control, and polyphonic overtones, Diana is a vocal unicorn. She may very well be utterly unique. Despite an extremely harsh early life (see below) and all the accolades and success she has had as a young singer, she is, by all accounts, an incredibly smart, grounded and humble young woman.

Diana's birth mother was an unmarried alcoholic. Diana was the first of 12 children to survive childbirth. As a young child (age 3) she was abused and nearly drowned by her mother, then thrown out into the street in the winter with a broken arm. Her relatives didn't want her so she ended up in an orphanage. Fortunately, she was adopted by a lovely lady who worked there as a masseuse. She took singing lessons as a therapy for her speech problems. A TV documentary revealed that the immense stress of her early years eventually resulted in a nervous breakdown. After suffering recurring nightmares about her birth mother returning, her adoptive mother moved her far away. She sang in the show, "You Are Super" for abused / underprivileged children, which she won twice + more than 50 other competitions. Her video performances together have more than 500 million views
