“Pick up the knife aaand..” genuinely this is dissertation level. loved every second of it and cried a whole bunch 😣 never stop making stuff!!! your vulnerability and care for the topics really shows
I'm listening to this in the background while at work and you threw me with the patios. The subconscious code-switching from living in the inner-city to going to an 'up town school' in Jamaica got me too. Also here from FD Signifier
I'm 34 years old and it's wild to me how much I related to your experience with this show considering the generational difference. Really great watch! You got me bout to rewatch the whole damn show.
This is the Boy Meets World video ive been waiting for. Thank you so very much. This show was my childhood. I was born in 86 and grew up with this show.
21 mins in: Based on your accent and the fact that your experiences are almost identical to mine, it seems you’re Jamaican and it makes me incredibly happy that someone from our country can produce a video of such high quality as this, the time and effort you put into this work shows. I’m an avid fan of video essay content similar to this so you have definitely earned a new subscriber/supporter my friend.
I’m Jamaican too and I was surprised when he said he went to a church with many Jamaicans and I was really trying to figure out if he is too but either way I find his life experiences interesting and I have a similar love for Boy Meets World. If he is Jamaican then that’s great because I’ve always wanted to make video essays like this
@@rosheimd2339Yeah I also have a similar love for the meets world shows. It makes me wonder if it was an unspoken niche among boys in our generation(perhaps also social class)
@@rosheimd2339 I say go for it bro, I’ve seen a few local essayist pop up as of recently (this is by far the highest quality). Watching this has also inspired me to make some content of my own also
What an incredible video. You've nailed so much of what I feel makes BMW so great down to smallest cry-worthy moment. The way you wove your own experience through it was a great narrative tool as well. Thanks for this one, it was a fantastic watch.
Patricia Taxxon once posted “art necessarily depicts a world in which god is real”. The necessity of an artist to shape and decide the fates of their creations makes true arbitrary chaos impossible to display, as every unexpected occurrence has to come from the design of the artist. Whether if they decide on that design on a whim or a dice roll, or on a purposeful aim to display the handling of characters with unexpected unfortunate circumstances. An artist decision is that which determines the lives of their characters. That Cory Matthews’ religious rage at a fate thrust upon him as well as the religious guilt of him turning to god only when he is suffering are also part of the design, that despite the intensity in which they are portrayed they are not a reaction to the situation of being but a part of it. And the writers of Boy meets world cant thoroughly consider the thought of any trajectory succeeding outside the suburban nuclear family man remains immature but at least theyre still learning 🤷♂️ we better transcend those gods of mediocrity should we want to overcome what circumstances we encounter outside of any narrative. Whether in finding a wholler god or creating a better world. One that doesnt neglect the good that is truly considered and displayed in the show. One that is more whole than merely yearning for divine repair of primordial chaos
Being a 20 y/o Jamaicain woman who also grew up watching Boy Meets World, I’m so happy this niche vid popped up on my recommended 😭 the commentary was so relatable on a level I never expected it to be!
As a Jamaican who lives in Jamaica I was the same age as you when I discovered and watch BMW for the first time. I’m now 19 and since then I’ve been rewatching the series every year as it has become my comfort show. Though I’m not finished with the video quite yet I just wanted to say thank you for this as I was made to feel weird about my love for this show as I also liked GMW. My uncle who grew with BMW heavily shat on GMW (I can understand to an extent but I felt like because of who the creators thought they were catering to we got a kind of screwed up show but I loved the BMW references.) 30:48
It’s a small thing, but I love that this entire video was done in the original 4:3 instead of using 16:9. Also, idk if they’ve released an HD version of the show but I also love that this video is in the original resolution. It’s a great touch.
After following along and hearing you out through all the videos you've posted over the past year or so, I can't help but feel nostalgic and contemplative about myself. You remind me so much of myself in so many ways, it makes me feel and reflect upon my youth and early adulthood in a strange, new way (I just turned 36, haha!). Though I'm not quite sure what to do with these bittersweet feelings, thoughts and memories that you evoke within me, I am glad you've been willing to share your musings, philosophies and such. It's helped me connect to a part of myself I've ignored for the sake of others.
I’m here 27min in and it’s kinda sad, my childhood was filled with the stock market crash and being worried about food and a house. So vaguely remember being a kid and mostly remember having to grow up quickly so I could be alone in the house while my parents both worked. But it’s nice to hear about someone else’s experiences.
3:55:31 as I’ve finished this video all I can say is well done, I’ve found myself to love reading and long form content that sparks conversation. Doesn’t have to be educational, just something with enough passion that it feels important. For me BMW was a glance at the time it was, as a 2005 baby, a gen z if you will, I’ve come to understand that I’ll have something different to say everytime i re watch it. Sometimes I find myself longing for the “fate” aspect of life so I have some semblance of where it’s going, to have an already written cheat code but of course it’s not like that. I’m my family’s black sheep, young and making my own money from my very small business, going to art college despite the protest of my traditionalist based (but not acted) father, started college at 17 after graduating high school at 16, being not heterosexual in my Jamaican Christian household. I’ve done many things in my life I was scared to do but now have gotten used to but like they’ve said “I’m as old as I’ve ever been and I’m as young as I’ll ever be” but yet as time goes quickly I can’t help but scratch at the walls as I watch myself venturing into more untraveled territory. I hold onto this show as it’s my connection to my childhood. Where time was simpler and I wasn’t going through these things myself but rather having what if scenarios with friends laughing at the possibilities. As I get older, this will continue to be my most favorite show of all time as I think holding myself to that childlike whimsy of imagination keeps me sane in this world we have.
Cory's parents didn't kick him out because he turned 18. They kicked him out because him and Topanga got married. I always saw it as they chose to make a very adult decision to get married, so now they can't act like kids anymore.

genuinely another beautiful work of art, deeply relatable video essay. wow.
Wow this is really well made. For 3h and 55m the entire video is engaging and the themes stay strong throughout.

I dig the aspect ratio. Also the question posited at 33:00 was central to my leaving the faith. Lots of great philosophical angles in this vid 👍
commenting for the algorithm; great video man
This was amazing. Thank you
as someone who's been on youtube for over 10 years, i can safely say this IS the best boy meets world video ever made 👍
Uhhh, did TH-cam mess up again? I was confused as to why the video was reupload. Probably copyright dhinanigans.
Awesome video, Frankie was my favorite character too. Also weirdly formative for the "type" of guys I would find myself smitten with after coming out.
It’s honestly crazy to watch yourself grow up with a show
Beautifully done, ty for your essay

I was at the tail end of watching this show and this is one of the last things I remember.

The original upload is unlisted so you can probably find it in your watch history
I watched this as it came out..I can't believe it's been a month already ㅠㅡㅠ
Topangas aunt actually played Juliet in the 70s
He really said "stay out of my PURSE-onel life" after losing the purse girl and there was no laugh track!
I really like to watch this. Although I couldn't relate anywhere past weeb stuff and hating highschool, I find unexpected comfort in this.
