never knew there was a name for this sort of fascination and im glad im not the only one to experience it! i was born in 2002, so i was right on the fringe of the 21st century. the fact that there was a hundred years of incredible world changing events before my time, (and the fact i was born only 2 years off from it) made me feel incredibly left out. always felt like i never quite fit in with 2010s or 2020s, theres just so many more things from the last hundred years seem far more engaging, interesting, or just plan fun. then again they say the grass is always greener on the other side. still though, wish i could have been there.
I was born in 2004 and have the strongest anemoia from the 90s and early 2000s, but it also resides a lot around the 60s-80s and even occasionally is triggered when I see images of ancient Greece. It's almost like I'm there, but they don't see me, like I'm looking through a hidden live camera feed. We now have the technology to replay any moments we wish, over and over again, which strengthens the thought that we were indeed, born in the right generation.
to me anemoia isn't just the past but also the distant future we haven't experienced. To me its a word that describes not being able to feel the past or the future. Its the feeling of the unkown
Me too, sometimes I imagine raining in a a year like 3020s and me looking out the windows, and also the past including ancient summer even though I was born in 2006
I had this feeling about distant future nostalgia reading Philip K. Dick book Ubik Also there are some kind of music that generate the Anemoia feeling I am wondering if the Museums also caused this feeling to the people my guest is this kind of historical places the nostalgia feeling should increment
Ok everyone here is saying that they have nostalgia by seeing or doing stuff but for me it triggers rarely at late nights when I am not feeling sleepy And also sometimes when I look at the sky at night while laying on my back I get the nostalgia from other things too like seeing a really old, small book, that contains blueprints of industrial building Whenever I get this type of nostalgia I kinda think of a image like of a crt TV in a really wholesome house at 90's times I guess which is really weird to describe. Also I think my first feeling of anemoia was whenever I went to cut my hair as a kid I went to same barber and he had a poster at his wall which consisted of a train, roses and a helicopter (that's all I could think of at the moment) It also had a quote about roses and summer but I can't remember it I have always curious if this was just a me thing or everyone experienced it glad to see I am not alone
I often feel this whenever I see old buildings and movies who take place in 19th century and old school like Cambridge and Oxford and cottagecore images make me feel so safe like it was my old home and it’s bothering it feels like I’m missing something I’ve never had
I get this feeling a lot. I was born in 1996, so I can barely even remember the 20th century but I have such nostalgia for the '80s. So much so that I drive an '80s car, listen to '80s music and dress in styles that were around in 1980s England. Very strange. I think the reason we get this feeling is because we only see the idealistic parts of these times.
Even though I was born in 2000s I often a Anemoia for times like 1950s(mostly) or 1980s, it’s a really weird feeling both feel as if I’ve lived them and in some way it calms me down
i have theory its our genes that carry nostalgia and good memories from our parents and grandparents, i have nostalgia towards 60s and 80s, my granparents had very calm life in 60s and my parents had absolutely best decade in history 80s to live in, we hear music , see movies from that era and it attracts us too
I thought something was wrong with me …i from time to time look at old 70s music videos or soul train (I was born in 82’)and just cry because I feel a mix of emotions and I don’t know how to feel I think (maybe crazy) I’m connected to something or someone some kind of way 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
@@Cj_Plays_Everythingas someone born in 2003 you make me feel old lol. what the 2010s ain't good enough for ya? nah but seriously i get what u mean, i'm nostalgic for the 50s-early 2000s aswell (but it makes sense for me cuz i was born in the 2000s so i quite literally have a connection to it 😂) also why only the early 2000s? what you got against the mid-late 2000s? i got to experience 2007-09 good years, miss being 4-6 years old, life was so much simpler back then you have no idea kid. the 2010s was fun & simple too (specifically 2010-13 skip a few then 2017) but don't sleep on the 70s
I have just today discovered the word Anemoia, something I have had all my life. My version is from mid 1800's to early 1900's, I have had a fascination with photography from that era and have been practicing it for over 20 years. Life and technology in general of that time period is my interest. Going into older less remodeled buildings has a strange feeling of familiarity sometimes.
I feel some sort of nostalgia for the 90s-2000s, despite not growing up in the 90s-2000s. I recall growing up with outdated stuff around, which might be why I feel anemoia for that era. From the strange 3d renders in textbooks waiting to be replaced, to a clunky old computer.
As a 2003 baby who also likes the 90s-2000s i ask why tho? what about the early 90s or 80s? i was around in 2007 to 2009 but i have anemoia for the 50s-early 2000s
as an aussie 2006 kid, i have an odd sense of anemoia for a lot of things from the late 90s to early 2000s, particularly old british tv, there’s something about that old quality aesthetic mixed with the fancy architecture that really gets me, personally i think it might be from all those episodes of thomas the tank engine i watch as a kid
I often have Anemoia for 2004, even though I was a 2003 kid. But things seemed so much more relaxed back them in terms of interaction, compared to this rapid community that we have online today to which even I struggle to keep up with
I feel nostalgic about things from like 15-25 years ago. I am currently 18, I have always loved old music and older movies from that time period. My parents had me in their early 40s so it started with them when they introduced me to their old music. I really felt disconnected from todays time, though I do feel thankful for all the advantages and resources we have today. And yes lots of the music and movies from today is great too, but, it’s nothing compared to how 90s, 80s and early 00s stuff makes me feel. It’s like a past life even though I don’t really believe in that concept. It’s weird.
I get Anemoia when life feels so empty and boring. I start wandering around in the past with images that I see on the Internet or simply using my mind by imagining what it was like in the past. The first thing that comes to mind when I indulge in such activities is what older people always say “phones ruined everything”. I think they are right in a way. We were so much more interactive back then and because of that, life was way more lively and enjoyable than it is today. If you think about it, the world hasn’t changed much in the last 50 years, it’s us that has changed. Buildings, roads, landmarks etc… are all the same. We on the other hand behave completely differently as we are way less social than we were and in turn, less alive. I really think social media specifically ruined this feeling because it “replaces” the need of people going out to talk with others; they can just do it from their house.
Yknow, I too have this form of nostalgia using old operating systems like 98 or playing a game of that era. I've always wondered what the word was and now that I've searched this word up because of the existence of a minecraft texture pack, I think I got something much better in terms of content. Thank you!
Anemoia is feeling of longing.. Like my soul desperately want to get out of my body and be in the place.. It feels almost real. Almost real and i feel like something is pulling me back from my soul and the place is getting father and father and it's becoming less real every second.. The feeling of the places being almost real make the longing deeper
I was born in 2004, just on the cusp of the early 2000’s. I have fond memories of being around 3 - 4 years old living in the late 2000’s. I think my Anemoia started when I was really young watching Forrest Gump on VHS at my grandmothers apartment, I had to have been 3 or so, watching it over and over again, learning a bunch of history of past geopolitical events and major events of the 20th century. I have this profound connection to the 60’s - 00’s. Any decade from then I feel a connection towards. It is super odd, I get quite emotional thinking about it sometimes, reminiscing in my mind about it while constantly playing the Minecraft soundtrack in my head on loop for some reason lol. It is so strange. I also often feel happy it seems when seeing older footage from past, that has been remastered and colored, making it seem more real, example would be the The Beatles Get Back film. I feel a almost personal connection when seeing them joke in the studio, it feels as tho I could hop in there and joke with them. Alright feely story over lol.
I live in Norfolk, England I have a massive obsession with disused railway lines which were pulled up mostly in the 1960s. My grandfather was a ticket guard on a railway in a neighbouring town. This too, was closed in the 1960s. Certain songs give me a sense of nostalgia for the bygone era of the truly great British railways. Particularly, songs by Parov Stelar
I was born in 1980 and have a very strong amenoia for the 1940s - but it’s extremely specific. It’s almost as if it’s a memory. I remember being about 12 years old in a really hot summer, somewhere in a field or open countryside in the south of England. Music from that era (particularly British music) makes me think of it. The sound of propeller aircraft makes me think of it. Certain clothing, architecture (building interiors for example) make me think of it, and I have a longing to be back there. It’s very very strange. Almost as if I am reincarnated and have lived before.
Nostalgia in all forms including anemoia is such a powerful emotion... It's star-crossed longing, emptiness and intangibility all at once. Two of my favorite words
I started keeping a diary in the summer of 1964 and very quickly I realized that I was living in what would be "the good old days" for some people in the future. Then it made sense when my mother would say, "Now are the good old days."
I've known this feeling as long as I can remember. Listening to the wind rustling the leaves of pecan trees while playing in the park, the best I could describe it before finding this word was "spiritual feeling, nostalgic, sad in some way, a sense of longing" Thought I was the only one to be honest
A sense of longing for a time I never knew seems awful fitting. It is not triggered by seeing things from the past at all for me. It's triggered by feeling very here right now, especially with nature, and I feel like a soul child longing for the void I came from, except that maybe it isn't really a void
I feel nostalgic about a game that is called earthbound, a game from the 90s. And as a person who is born of a generation with high technologie, i do find super weird that a game who is not definitively part of my childhood make me nostalgic. Anemoia is such a mysterious emotion.
I just a 13 year old child but when i look people walking around my home, i feel like i have been feel a feeling that i never been look. Its feel like im nostalgia at 80's and i also think why human being weird and make this world gonna end and i pray to death before this world destroyed by human
I have anemoia for the late 18th century to early 19th century. I fangirl over dead poets and cosplay as a macaroni bloke. I have a thing for ornate carriages too. I get a lot of comments about being either “ a time lord” or “undead” due to my obsession with this particular era’s art, music, literature, architecture, and philosophy.
I’ve always been obsessed with history . All different wars. But for some reason I’ve had this weird connection with world war 1. I couldn’t have been older than 10 when it started to pull me. Although I did watch kid shows . But I watched the history channel a lot . I’ve seen that series world war 1 in color from the late 90s thousand times . Every part . I watch a lot of world war 2 stuff too . But it’s something about flander’s field verdun. The sommme too . But I feel more drawn to the French army side of the war . I actually have a pretty crazy story about that . But would take too long to type it all out . But I always felt there was something about those fields, “no man’s” land and then there are the trenches and dugouts I felt the strongest connection with . I played baseball at a pretty high level up into my late 20s . Being in the real in ground dugouts brought nostalgia from not only world war 1 battlefields. But the being In a dugout from like the 1930s and 40’s baseball stadium .
I was born in 2010 but I have nostalgia for like just a few years before I was born but u mostly hung out with my cousins who were born for a few years before I was born so I don’t think It was me but me hanging out with my cousins and even stuff when I was like two that there’s no way I could possibly be nostalgic for but for some reason I was and I thought it sounded like I was a stupid little idiot kid but I hadn’t known that other people experience this phenomenon
I was born in 2003 and i did experience (barely) the few years before your birth, i was 4 and in pre-k in 2007, kindergarten in 2008 & first grade in 2009, i can tell you it was awesome, transformers just came out in 2007, cartoon network, disney & nickelodeon were airing great shows still, it was so fun and simple to be a kid then
I wonder if 2010s, 2020s even 2030s babies are gonna experience this same phenomena. like when they hit their teens and 20s if they're gonna be like "i feel nostalgic for the 2000s-early 2010s" or "i miss the 90s-2010s without being born" or "even tho i'm 17 & was born in 2024, i feel nostalgic for the 70s-early 2010s" ya'know? as a 2003 baby that's cute but terrifying to think about😂. i have a theory that all these sequels & remakes targeting 80s and 90s nostalgia, along with us young millennials/early zoomers having anemoia for those periods and our birth years aswell is gonna influence mid-late 2010s & 2020s babies to grow up with anemoia also and it's gonna forever be a cycle. i'm calling it
I’m so glad I’ve decided to look up this phenomenon. I’ve always wondered why this was happening. Is it coincidence? Maybe just like its just like those shows and the thought of being drawn to the subjects, amplified my thinking about the possibility of living in those decades. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. (Crazy I had deja vu typing the first sentence out .😂) My theory for the last few years has been “maybe it’s passed down by our ancestors through our DNA.” The human brain is one complex organ . When you boil it down , it’s all you . A lump of matter , water and neurons . If you zoom into the brain down to a microscopic level . It’s a bunch of neurons firing through each other through filaments that connect them. Eerily similar to what the observable universe looks like when zoomed out . 🤯
back in my day, we ain't have no new fangled nostalgia; we played with our fushigis, ate off our zoopals, and watered our chiapets, and we damn sure didn't ask no questions about no goddamn "past." it was all we ever known, and tnat was good enuf fer us.
I don't really get anemoai for olden times well sometimes tho mostly I get it when people express their nostalgia and I understand how it is for them kinda just like empathy for some reason another reason why I get anemoai is songs idk when I just hear songs that are really really exciting, cozy I just get a sudden feel of nostalgia I ask myself Why do I have nostalgia have I heard these songs before I could not have nostalgia if I did not hear of the song before but no it was just anemoai

But the being In a dugout from like the 1930s and 40’s baseball stadium .
anemoia is a weird feeling
I was born in 2010 but I have nostalgia for like just a few years before I was born but u mostly hung out with my cousins who were born for a few years before I was born so I don’t think It was me but me hanging out with my cousins and even stuff when I was like two that there’s no way I could possibly be nostalgic for but for some reason I was and I thought it sounded like I was a stupid little idiot kid but I hadn’t known that other people experience this phenomenon
I was born in 2003 and i did experience (barely) the few years before your birth, i was 4 and in pre-k in 2007, kindergarten in 2008 & first grade in 2009, i can tell you it was awesome, transformers just came out in 2007, cartoon network, disney & nickelodeon were airing great shows still, it was so fun and simple to be a kid then
Great video essay!
I wonder if 2010s, 2020s even 2030s babies are gonna experience this same phenomena. like when they hit their teens and 20s if they're gonna be like "i feel nostalgic for the 2000s-early 2010s" or "i miss the 90s-2010s without being born" or "even tho i'm 17 & was born in 2024, i feel nostalgic for the 70s-early 2010s" ya'know? as a 2003 baby that's cute but terrifying to think about😂. i have a theory that all these sequels & remakes targeting 80s and 90s nostalgia, along with us young millennials/early zoomers having anemoia for those periods and our birth years aswell is gonna influence mid-late 2010s & 2020s babies to grow up with anemoia also and it's gonna forever be a cycle. i'm calling it
Thanks for a really neat video.
One song that triggered anemoia in me is Tatsuro Yamashita's Love Space or a lot of the city pop from the 80s
I was born in 2009 but I literally have a strong feeling of 2000's 😢
Fight Club gives me anemoia for the 90s.
back in my day, we ain't have no new fangled nostalgia; we played with our fushigis, ate off our zoopals, and watered our chiapets, and we damn sure didn't ask no questions about no goddamn "past." it was all we ever known, and tnat was good enuf fer us.

Impressive Iann!
I have this feelings for the 19th century and the early 20th
Y'all remember watching the digimon on vcr?
Bro the 90s just feel creepy to me
The 90s feel creepy??😂 dawg how, the 40s or 50s i could understand but the 90s?
I don't really get anemoai for olden times well sometimes tho mostly I get it when people express their nostalgia and I understand how it is for them kinda just like empathy for some reason another reason why I get anemoai is songs idk when I just hear songs that are really really exciting, cozy I just get a sudden feel of nostalgia I ask myself Why do I have nostalgia have I heard these songs before I could not have nostalgia if I did not hear of the song before but no it was just anemoai
I have this same obsession
So it's like retroactive FOMO?
i was born in 2011, however i have a strange anemoia from 2001 - 2014
I’m also born in 2011, I feel so strange even in this anemoia community, I long for the life I had in the 1920s.
does nostalgia for a reality that didnt ever exist, and never will, but you still seem to have known somehow count as anemoia?
hey guys its me bruce willis from die hard and other films
omg remember in die hard with a vengeance when you wore that sign with the n word on it
Older tech is better. It can or could be fixed, unlike modern stuff.
I dont have this but i have an obsession with the 17-1800s (obviously i wouldn't want to live there. Im a woman 💀)
Анемойя, а не анемия.
