Thabk god for letting us know about where the hoses went that connected to the egr, and the modulator.

You're welcome! Yeah that would be a PITA to figure out later on. I did mark the tubes where they went when I took them off.

Thank you. After finding out just where this thing is located, I immediately thought about moving it, too! After viewing a few vids on this valve I came across yours. 👍. Interestingly enough, I noticed that one guy was changing the vsv on a 2000 model and Toyota relocated it to pretty much the same location as you. I'm guessing that some of the desktop engineers had do do some age testing and found out just what a pain it was. Especially with all of the available real estate on the top side of the engine!! Thanks again!

You're welcome, glad it helped! I did figure out what was causing my P0401 (vacuum modulator), made another video showing some troubleshooting tips. But it made it much easier to troubleshoot and see the vacuum flow having the VSV up top there.

2001 Camry-I relocated and put on firewall. I didnt try to take the old one off..waste of time. Had a hard time getting electrical connector off with wheel off. Have to do this job again soon on a 98 Camry. Hopefully will be less difficult.

Was the '98 the same as the '96?

Just unplug it and that's essentially a EGR delete without removing the parts. If you have the wires for the heater plug for it then just put a 10 k ohm resistor there

I'd be concerned it would fail smog test, especially here in CA where it's strict. Now that it's relocated much easier to work on and troubleshoot.

Just took on a 98 Camry with this problem I wonder if anyone knows the pitch of the bolt. The one on the 98 Camry is pretty well seized will be relocating immediately

      12mm bolt is M8 x 1.25 x 20mm
      10mm bolt is M6 x 1.0 x 16mm
found it. Just going to leave the old broken one where it lives.

Did you have to lengthen the connector wire? Or did you use that wire as it was? Just want to know if original wire is long enough. Thanks

I just returned from the garage, doing the same relocation on my ‘96. It’s long enough!

No, as stated in the video just used it as is. If you follow the routing suggestion I gave there (underneath the far left fuel injection cable) it seemed like there was plenty of room and it was just the right length... at least for my car.

Was getting P0401, and in case it was the VSV wanted to relocate it so it would be easier to troubleshoot.

What year Camry do you have? I only have experience with this '96 2.2L.
