    No Chinese console gamer will buy a Chinese version game. Everyone buys HK version or US version. Smuggled from Hong Kong.

      @@Dylan-oh5ii yes. Chinese console games are often region locked and altered. For example, somehow red blood is considered 'too violent' by chinese government, so blood color of many games were changed to green or black color. It is absurd and funny in some sense. How is green color less violent than red?

      Might sound kind of lame for many of the younger viewers but for nostalgias' sake with those of us who grew up with the 8-bit consoles, how about a nice sit-down "Let's Play" style videos of a few of your favorites games, during some down time?

      I had some crappy games available to me as a kid on PC back in DOS freeware/shareware age.
      A lot of shareware was really great though. (ex. Doom, Monster Bash, Duke Nukem )
      I'm really glad that as a kid I had games like Island of Doctor Brain (educational game), and Sim City 2000. I had a chance to get Civilization from a friend, but I guess by that time I already had Warcraft 2 and was obsessed about it and/or other things instead
      Would have been nicer if I had Master of Orion 2, or Star Control 2, although I did play the former later on in life. I hear that the latter is even better though, and seems pretty neat from video I've seen.

    I don't know anyone who buys domestic versions of console games, even less so in shops. You can get any current gen game in any version (US/EU/JP/...) brand new and legit on Taobao, and the console that goes with it. There is also everything you need on there if you are into retro gaming.

  • @phragmitesaustralis5433
    @phragmitesaustralis5433 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The thing that amazes me that is the existence of underground gaming circles in China dedicated to famous retro titles. A few months ago I found a comment here on TH-cam by a Mainland Chinese fan on Brian Fargo's Wasteland series. He even elaborated in Mandarin how passionate he is for the DOS-based Wasteland 1. Discovering new unexpected things like this in China is quite a pleasure considering how the country has been separated from the global mainstream for decades.

    Actually PS4 or Xbox games are not regional ban. So it's ok to play EU/US/JP/Hong Kong edition of game in the consoles. And it's what Chinese gamers usually do. So it's really not a big deal for gamers living China.

      Andrew Cobb my PS4 is bought from Hong Kong so it's running on Hong Kong server initially. And yes you can also change the server of Chinese version PS4 into any server you like. Download a hot patch or whatever. But still, directly buying a Hong Kong/US/EU version of PS4 is more convenient. And games in those region are actually very easy to get. Or simply just download from psn store.

    • @HellsDelight

      To me the main issue is Online Play on such Games. When I was in China and wanted to play Battlefield 1 there were no Asian Servers in the beginning (maybe there are now but I assume only in Japan and Hong Kong which gives a too high ping rate). I tried to play Battlefield 4 in China and with Servers from Japan/Hong Kong the ping was very high. It was playable online but the high ping gives alot of disadvantage online. Offline / Single Player Games are much less of a problem and I also know at least one guy from China that plays The Witcher 3, etc. on his PS4 or plays with his Nintendo consoles.

    To be honest, I am a video gamer in Mainland China. Fortunately, I was able to get the games during the ban period because I live in Zhuhai, where is close to HongKong. Lots of games are selled from HongKong direct to the stores in Mainland. Nowadays, I would still buy the HongKong version games and even buy the PS4 from HongKong due to the games must clean out the section include context over 18. It is awful to a gamer. Thanks to Steam and Online store from Playstation, Xbox. There are still too much things need to be changed but lack of duty.

      @@tacob0 Not to get political in the comment section of this video because it's about video games in China, not the apartheid. But Winston's point I believe but I won't speak on his behalf is that the sanctions sucked for regular people in his country who did not have an influence on the apartheid for better or worse. One person typically who is lower or middle class can not change the countries rules, culture or beliefs and make the world a better place. Especially a child who does not have the same legal rights as an adult. The sanctions didn't do anything but hurt him and other people who had nothing to do with the apartheid. Yes, it hurt South Africa's economy I'm sure. But that's not what he was saying was dumb. It was the other Consequences that effected innocent people in his country and other countries that are sanctioned. I don't think he meant that the punishment for such things on the country was unjustified. It was the innocent people he's talking about who got smacked from it.

She didn't agree with the Nazis but was forced to conform and not speak out against the society. Same goes for when the iron curtain dropped. She absolutely hated the Communists who raped people in the town square and took what they wanted. She was an innocent living in a country with a government she did not agree with and could not leave. Not all people like what their country does. But they don't want to or can't leave for many reasons and they can't change the system. So rules like sanctions screw those people who have no way to get it to stop. An extreme example I know. I just wanted to clarify that Winston did not agree with apartheid nor does it seem his family who raised him did.

      People are so brainwashed. Under black rule, South Africa will become a failed state within 2 decades. Apartheid was necessary. If it was still in place South Africa would be a better place than it is quickly devolving into.

    When it comes to game consoles China sucks big time. But I have to say that if u gave a gaming Pc the problem is solved, u can buy any game for pc on taobao and they usually not very expensive. Most of the people I know are playing Battlefield 1 now.

  • @TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsDrBees
    @TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsDrBees 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Wow I expected more titles. I will say though PC gaming is the future and the only platform that's worthwhile. Essentially all gaming consoles are just expensive gaming PC's that have a special controller and reduced functionality and certain console locked games.

      Michael Archer Yeah mobile gaming is low quality pleb trash. Real manly men have gaming PC's .

    • @MsHojat
      @MsHojat 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see how you could call a gaming console an expensive gaming PC.
      If you want to compare an old PC with a gaming console, you could compare it with an old gaming console, which would be cheaper. Comparing newer with newer would again be cheaper.
      The difference is that with PC there's:
      • Generally cheaper games
      • Far more free content (some of that content is _extremely_ good, too),
      • Far far more selection and choice
      • 100% backwards compatibility on all games previously released, ever, even compatibility with previously console-exclusive titles (though emulation)
      • No ridiculous subscription fee just to play online
      • Lots of freedom to run modifications and new/extra content for many different games
      • Freedom to own a faster or slower machine, depending on user preference. This also includes the freedom to run content at 60 FPS, or even higher values like 120 FPS, along with higher quality graphics than consoles.
      • Far more productivity. Can be used for far more things (an infinite number of things) than just for gaming.
      All this at generally the the same sort of overall net price over time as a console (when factoring in that many computer components do not need to be replaced as frequently as others, such as power supply, case, hard drive, and motherboard. Also due to cheaper games, and no monthly fee to play them online)

    • @TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsDrBees
      @TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsDrBees 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mshojat I'm confused, sounds like you're agreeing with me. A good gaming PC can emulate any game console you want. It's all just hardware that runs software.
      The deal with PC's is they're upgradeable and flexible with content although it's not as user friendly as consoles. If consoles ever lose their stranglehold on unique series they will fall off.

      side Wrong Funny enough I bought the first version of the PS4 have no need to upgrade it or repair it. I have ARK and it runs fine I'm confused as to where you got that information as for the no exclusives I currently am enjoying several console exclusives such as Ratchet and Clank this is just one example. Not to mention I do have a PC I guess you could call it a gaming PC since it has the capabilities to do so I always seem to run into shit ports of games I like which I hate the developers for not to mention the amount of ways round the shit anti cheat half of these PC games have.

    The official selling of gaming console WAS banned for many years, but people can always get imported ones from Japan and Hong Kong with warranty from the store. And the games, while most stores sell pirated consoles and you just download cracked games, you can still buy imported genuine games from them. Also, the region locks on the official Chinese PS4 and Xbox One is only on the online store, you can still play discs bought in the rest of the world.

Still made me a bit sad to think about it.
