So excited for your journey. I’m quite new to The Weeknd too, I only discovered him early last year and it’s been such a joy getting to binge on all his projects. What I love about him is that his lyrics are so sinful and dark but his voice is so seductive and angelic. He’s a rare talent. I hear that the sound on this record was actually imitated by a lot of already popular r&b artists so I think his style was highly influential right from the beginning of his career.

Yeah this song was released actually in 2012, and it was the first song I listened of this artist who is one of my favourite male singers, but it wasn't known for me until 2016 when I heard this song in an Tv commercial of Hugo Boss fragance the Scent which british actor Theo James appeared.

I remember this sound being very new to me when it came out.
I don't know if you know this, but the videos that you are watching are before the songs were remastered, the remastered ones have the cover art for trilogy, they sound a lot cleaner and better, just a heads up!
That comment about wanting to trust him but something doesn’t feel right. That epitomizes the character of The Weeknd. It’s all deception. He fools everyone including himself. Every time there’s a song that sounds happy or sexy there’s always something sinister lurking in the shadows.
House of Balloons, the first part of the trilogy is his life going from party to party in a drug-induced haze. Until the finale of the tape, “Loft Music” transitioning into “The Knowing”. It’s in this final seven or so minutes that he reveals why he’s living the lifestyle he is. He relives a final moment with a girl in which they both know the other is cheating, the relationship is over, and they’re grasping at whatever is left of their time together. It’s all left him as this seemingly shallow devilish creature. But really he’s just hurt.
Deception of the girls in the songs, himself, and finally, the listener.
