- Matheran is an automobile-free hill station and a municipal council in the Karjat taluka of the Raigad district located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Matheran is one of the smallest hill stations in India.It is located in the Western Ghats, at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. It is about 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune. This proximity to these urban areas makes it a weekend getaway for many.
How to reach:
1) Catch any train which stop at Neral Junction Railway Station.
2) From Neral Junction you can either go by toy train or by sharing taxi till Dasturi Naka Parking Point.
3) From Dasturi you may get E-rickshaw & Horse Ride or you can get into toy train from Aman lodge railway station for Matheran.
Entry Fees: Adult - 50 & Kid - 25
Toy Train Charges: From Neral - INR 95 & From Aman Lodge - INR 55

pls dont go to matheran in june month, it is clear advice to all. too much humid & hot in june month.
pls visit the matheran, only in july, August, sept month, after the full rainy season arrived.
1) and one more thing is that, the E-rickshaws service scheduled is too bad. they people are ignoring customers and attending the local habitants in priority while returning from matheran station to aman lodge. they were gone for charging their vehicle after 1.00 pm. so, 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm is very critical.
2) while travelling in taxi from the neral station to the dasturi point, pls forcefully ask the taxi driver to drop up to dasturi point. they people are very smart because they were leaving 200 m away from the dasturi point, which is unethical.

Yes anytime aap ja sakte ho. Crowd tho hamesha hi rehta hai as it's very close to mumbai and sharing taxi aap ko mile jayegi. No need to worry.

Room price apko start from 1k to 14k tak mile jayega aur abhi season time hai so mostly apko costly hi milega due to overcrowd. Try to go in Weekday as Weekday par thoda less crowd milega comparatively weekend.

1) Lonavala railway station se aap Express/Mail train pakdo and Karjat station pe utharo and then karjat se aapko neral junction ke liye local train mile jayega.
Or
2) Lonavala railway station se apko sharing Jeep/Bus mile jayega khopoli station tak and then khopoli station se apko neral junction ke liye local train mile jayega (local apko csmt ki pakdna hai and neral station pe uthar jana)

Dasturi Naka se apko 4 options milega
1) Toy Train from Aman lodge to Matheran - INR 55 pp (Second Class) & INR 95 pp (First Class)
2) E-rickshaw from Dasturi to Matheran - INR 35 pp
3) Hand rickshaw from Dasturi to Matheran - INR 750 pp
Or
4) You can take Horse ride from Dasturi to Matheran and charges is depends on your bargaining.

Counter is open till 6pm in evening and sometimes on weekends the time may get fluctuate. So if you have booked your stay in matheran then you can directly cordinate with them.

As it's little bit far so I would suggest you to explore early mrng as in night there will be more chances of insects attack.

There are too many points so if you wish to explore all then atleast 2 days require to explore famous points of matheran.
