If you're looking for a cushy reliable luxury sedan, than yes consider the ES250. However for about the same price you can get an Acura TLX AWD that has a double-wishbone suspension, a *real* torque-vectoring rear-axle (not the fake, brake-based torque-vectoring that the ES uses), and nearly *3 seconds* faster 0-60. And in terms of ride quality, the TLX is almost just as plush but significantly less wobbly around a corner.

I don’t trust Honda after the dismal experience I had with my 2015 Acura TLX. They’re cut rate premium sport sedans trying their hardest to fool people with money into thinking they’re “special”. The new Acura RDX, MDX, and NSX are very nice. I don’t think I would own anything Honda again after my brand new Acura TLX inexplicably overheated and left me stranded. Thankfully it was in a nice suburb when the burning smell came from under the hood. I’ll take a Lexus anyway over a shiny Acura no matter the price.

A wheezy 4 cyl in a 40k lux car means it's not really a lux car. BMW pulled this nonsense with the last gen 3 series that was a dog inside and out. A 26k 1.5T Accord drove better than that 3 series and I bet that same 1.5T Accord drives better than this as well.

Love me some Lexus, however, the 2.5 4 cylinder is just not enough power in a 4,000 lb vehicle IMO. Pair this AWD drivetrain with their bulletproof 3.5 V6 and you will have a much higher take rate. I do have to agree though that the customer for this specific vehicle will probably be alright with the 4 cylinder. Lexus is also working on a new electrified AWD drivetrain called Direct 4 which looks to be a game changer as far as driving dynamics of their vehicle lineup in the future. So, there should be some good things coming from Lexus within the next 2-3 years.

I think their initial concern is the packaging in the rear for an E-AWD system. In the SUVs theirs more space to work around. In the ES and Camry their stretching the driveshaft along side the exhaust pipe to save space (ie the hump in the rear foot space). If they wanted to add an electric motor in the rear they would have to compromise trunk space which they decided not to do. I would be fine with less trunk space if it means I get a hybrid AWD.
