I love that you show the reality of teaching our dogs something new!!! Nope it doesn't go perfectly the first few times, but eventually it does.

Thanks it always nice for a fellow dog owner to appreciate the effort!

I think a pvc pipe "ladder" frame below the plastic ramp would help to keep it from collapsing around him as he climbs. Probably just need a few pool noodles across the width of the ramp about 1/3 of the way up from the water end to keep it afloat as he climbs up. Love the struggle, it is real! 🤣

Yep. Great advice. this thing was a work in progress at the time. I had noodles underneath, but there were actually too many at the end as it was not low enough for the climb up. more noodles on the side, and less at the end. PVC is great, but not easy to travel with.

I’ve been searching for a suitable ramp/ladder for my GS. We bought a Sea Doo Switch pontoon (expecting in the spring) There’s nothing traditional about it being a pontoon to say the least so there are a few obstacles to overcome for the right dog boarding method. We have kids so we don’t want to block the rear ladder and the swim platform is very different from other boats. Your idea is great. I am going to have to make a few modifications to your design for our boat but this seems to be the best solution.
I’m wondering if a couple less noodles towards the bottom could help submerge the mat a little to make boarding easier on the pups.

Definitely reduce noodles towards the water. Good luck

yes! less noodles at the end and even less in the middle so it stays more stable.

You had me laughing! Please share what (all) materials you employed in making ramp & how it's attached to your boat. Thanks!

Zip ties, noodles, rubber anti-gravity mats, rope attaching it to the boat. I think it would be much improved if there were less floats at the entrance end for the dog to easily climb onto. My lab is heavy and had no problem, but my pit is lighter and she had trouble so less floats towards the water end is better.

@@PullingRank Thank you for having the graciousness to reply. If you don't mind-- for the common good-- where's best place to buy "rubber anti-gravity mats," what dimensions are yours, how many did you use, and cost of an individual one? Thanks kindly! P.S. Genius design. Just what I'm looking for per my 94-lb. Yellow "Swim Nut" Lab. Cheers.

Hi! I was wondering why your dog needed a life vest? I’m just curious as I’m deciding if I should get my dog one

    • @PullingRank

Boating safety recommends vests. Not just for people, but for dogs also. If something were to happen out on the water and your dog wasn't wearing a vest, he could drown just as easily as people. He could get knocked unconscious, he could get sucked under (even to the prop) without a flotation device, and like us, they get tired too. When it's a day out on the water, and the dog is swimming a lot, best I give a helping hand and assist with energy preservation. It's safe, it's smart, and it's responsible.

Get one. They are a must for our river rats (aka 3 German shepherds) they get tired but still play and can get easily too exhausted and drown. Trust me. We have pulled a drowned dog at the lake before. Owner said they were playing and just went under. They are too cheap to not have for your loved pet.

Yes get one, if something happened and a pet sank they’re nothing you could do.
