I remember my Grandfather telling me about when he was grading the road and he had an impatient motorist following the Grader. Back in the 1960's and 70's they only had to put up a sign either end saying grader ahead and most of the time if the job was big enough, they would cut a side track in.. Anyway the motorist couldn't wait for my Grandfather to finish his pass and so he mounted the windrow and promptly tore the sump clean off his car when he found a large stone which was buried in the windrow. Needless to say my Grandfather laughed quite a bit over that one.
Not many left, as you mentioned, you Took Over, the road, that want to do the work to be proud of., you are a very big credit to those of us that still have an honest Pride in our work. So many want top pay simply because they can move a piece. Shake ones head! Why get up at all if at end of day all you want is beer money. Thanks for all your very informative videos, i’m coming 62, but not more than 50 hours in the seat, i do better than most, and your videos confirm my processes. I’m a finisher Dozer operator. I use grade control now but did most on grade stakes, with grade checkers. Keep up the good work. Gotta love it!
I’m doing work with my dozer, most grader, bobcat and minihoe operators, cant seem to get right. I’ve had to get to this point due to the incompetence of all these would beez. They all get paid, but never get the valuation or validation, as they get fired and/or bounce around looking for a company who fits their lazy mentalities. What a shame to run equipment that keeps one off the shovel, wheelbarrow and pickax as it was in my earlier days for myself, then to take it for granted. Everyone who wants to run equipment, needs to be on the rudimentary equipment for a couple years, then maybe, a shift in appreciation for nice modern machinery.
Would be great if you could step out of the cab and video a walk around showing what pulling the saddle pin actually does to help pull the ditch. I know it takes time but would be very helpful. Great work and thanks for doing these videos!
Great videos, TY for the great content. you mentioned it's easier working around obstacles with the pin out; can/do you sideshift (pin location) while moving? Or were you referring to the reach? And did you have specific techniques to effectively sweep larger debris (grass clumps/rocks) when making aggressive passes, especially around homes? Again, thanks for the great content.
Your welcome happy your enjoying the videoed as far as the pulling the pin you have to be stopped in order to do that you stop pull your pin put it in the spot you want then proceed to work as far as dealing with sod chunks and rocks you have to make multiple passes trying to break it up and work the rocks out.
What do you do with the weeds that will grow back before the grass/sod gets established? Kosha, pigweed, and stones are a big problem around here, NW ND. Also, the sod would be the only thing holding the fore slope/road shoulder from being squished out, washed out again. It takes a great amount of blade work to narrow up the road top. Think about it, you can cut maybe 2" off the foreslope each pass so if you want to narrow the road 3', there's a lot of cutting to do. Then to set the cut material back on the top of the road and pack in! Especially on a maintenance schedule. Farmers here like a big gravel road, 28'-30'+ is common. Everywhere in the country is different. Great videos by the way, makes me want to get back into making some myself.
We generally just let what grows back grows back once I get everything pulled up and in shape occasionally we hill have someone come in and seed the ditches down on a big project and we spray all our ditches so generally don’t have much of a weed problem and yes it takes a lot of time and work to narrow up a road lots of passes to get the job done and thanks for watching and the comment you should starting posting videos again I enjoyed the ones you have posted always like seeing how things are done other places.
@@graderman140m I enjoy & appreciate what ya do , I m 62 and learn something everyday , Where i live we have a lot of pine straw & leaves to deal with .Which is a pain in the rear but can deal with it, my leader seems to think pulling ditches is puttin crap in the road ,therefore we have a crappy road , which i do not agree . i have done this in another Precint for 2 yrs , with no problems . like You say ,its binding material and a lot of gravel winds up in the ditch . Sir, I’m starting on pulling berms in , should be interesting because some of the roads have high berms,and this will be a first for me. Some berms are 6+ inches. They have pissy fits around here when i do tht, but when the road gets laid back down and packed back in they're like boy my road in good shape, i tell u gotta make mess before u can make it better!!!! Lol

@@matttaylor9965 I honestly have to go with the cat can’t beat the visibility out of the cab and ease of control and the power the Deere just doesn’t have the low end torque the cat has so I have to chose the cat.
@@graderman140m that's wht I figured, I'm not impressed at all with these new 770s, visibility sucks, 250hrs on one 170hrs on the other already had to replace the bushings on the saddle yokes, the moldboards are pitting on the face's, when they delivered them them a/c would work fine at a idle u take off down the road it would start blowing hot air, they had the heater hoses hooked backwards, just hasn't made a good impression on me at all!!!!!

So when I pull the shoulders in I’m mainly hogging all the material up on the road changing the hinge point of the road once I have all my material pulled up on top I start working on my new top to my desired width and a 4% crown.
I really enjoy operating both machines I like the cat for visibility and the power I like the Deere controls and the service ability and the premium circle on the Deere I really don’t have a favorite.

Sir, do you pull in bank position all the time or is this because your in the bottom of ditch.
I don’t always pull in the bank position it really depends on what the ditches are like and how wet the are

Yes as essentially it will give you more reach
In minnesota and the rest of the country we say windrow not rinrow
