    Thank you so much for this. Many years back we went through the gates at the end of the road and down the still accessible track and met people who lived there, but we did not go down to Southview as we did not wish to invade their privacy. Years later when the road went, we still climbed over the rough pathway and spoke to people who were still squatting there. A few cars rotting away near the old gates. Now of course no access at all from Blackgang end. So glad to see this memory, thanks

    Great video Isle Of Wight Archive! I see at 3:25 there's a sticker saying 'the vectis moocheteers' looked it up and they are a group that focus on the isle of wight looking at derelict places! Worth looking at if you haven't already done so ;)

    I would have loved to restore those old buildings, nature took over the old Blackgang Chine. 😢😢

    I visited this place on Saturday, still accessible but very overgrown. couldn't get to the three cabins due to 4 ft nettles and brambles but saw inside the old clubhouse, uncle toms , the fountain etc. plan on going back soon with shears

    Pretty sad. I lived in Bali Hai up from Uncle Toms over 30 years ago for a few years...it was magical & cared for. The amount of junk no-one has bothered to clear up will probobly end up in the sea...bloody outrageous. You could still get a wheelbarrow up the goat track ...no excuse for leaving the place in such a shit state.

    Its a sad day for me to watch this short film on South view as been there meny a time i knew the people who made it home and looked after the place ie taping into the water supply to stop anymore erosion of the property and cliffs around South view. It was a great shock to see the main house no more just it's face crumbling into the sea witch won't be long know by what I've just witnessed .the cracks opening up on the main road will be the one that finely go and take what's left of the place and gone forever in time only to be looked upon in pictures or videos. . . Thanks for sharing

      I agree with you that its very sad.the coach house wall probably will go this winter as a mudslide has backed up behind it.it didnt help when dickheads burnt it out a few years back.i also know a chavvie who lived there for years and he cant bear to return .he told me some great stories about the place over a few beers in the pub.

      ISLE OF WIGHT ARCHIVE yes i heard some imbersiles burnt the house down such a shame it was a nice place to visit even if no one was there. Makes you think of what went through the minds of the idiots that done it .oh well can't dwell on the past i suppose. . They should get the nippers on community payback to rebuild it and also put a grade2 list on it . Thanks for the re upload it ruined my Sunday. Haha

    Hi, I am just wondering if this is still AT ALL accessible? Is it completely gone? I’m so interested in visiting, I live on the island and love the niton-blackgang side of the island. Also how would I get there, would I park in the car park just up from the black gang roundabout? Thanks , look forward to hearing.

      its still accessable , a hike , most is gone now , or vandalised , or arson . don`t go alone , you will get lost trying to do it . i could explain but its complicated and various routes . join a forum like IOW exploration on facebook , or 28 days later for the directions , its on those groups .

    What a mess. Never seen so much clutter / junk. I assume this has all fell now and become buried in the mud? I don't think I'd want to go in there - probably catch something just as bad, or worse than, Covid-19.

    What sort of does my head in is there are people out there who go to considerable difficulty, and risk ,to access somewhere like this just to fuck it up ?

      NIGEL PASSMORE I agree 100 percent

      So in your opinion, is this still acessible to a (relatively) fit 60 year old (me) , without seriously risking life and limb ? I,m asking 'cos I would like to check it out for myself this summer .

    • @ISLEOFWIGHTARCHIVE
      @ISLEOFWIGHTARCHIVE  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      NIGEL PASSMORE it's accessible. But really difficult. More so in the summer. Bring secateurs to cut your way in . probably best go with someone who's been before as it can take an hour to access , and for safety reasons

    • @barfly946
      @barfly946 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, btw ,in your opinion is it best approached from the west or east ?

      Nigel Passmore,
      spot on with your comment, there are too many idiots spoiling things for others
      I'm going to attempt to get down there in the coming weeks
      its a place dear to me, my partner was given one of the chalets down there about 10 years ago though sadly she died tragically but I need a revisit for old times sake.
      I think you can get there from a car park at the niton end.
