Great Ranking for my favorite black metal band! Here’s mine: 9. Battles in the North (7/10) 8. Blizzard Beasts (7/10) 7. Damned in Black (7/10) 6. All Shall Fall (8/10) 5. Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism (9/10) 4. Pure Holocaust (9/10) 3. Northern Chaos Gods (9/10) 2. At the Heart of Winter (10/10) 1. Sons of Northern Darkness (10/10) I go back and forth on 1 and 2 though. They are both basically perfect. Why do you no longer put your rating for each album?
Great video Bryce! Immortal is a hard band to rank because the top half of their discography is basically equal in quality between albums. But I'll try: 1) Pure Holocaust (10/10; pure black metal, amazingly done) 2) At The Heart of Winter (10/10, great classic demonstration of their new sound) 3) Damned in Black (9.5/10, amazing underrated black metal with thrash overtones, the technicality is mind-blowing). 4) Sons of Northern Darkness (9.5/10, gorgeous atmospheric finale to their classic discography). 5) Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism (9/10, amazing debut, great dark atmosphere on this one). 6) Battles in the North (8/10, a classic although a bit overrated IMO) 7) Northern Chaos Gods (7.5/10, good comeback) 8) All Shall Fall (7/10, also a solid mid career comeback, but a few songs can be a little bit dull) 9) Blizzard Beasts (5/10. Just doesn't do it for me, it's basically a wall of sound. Very unfocused compared to their other material). Special shout-outs to Immortal-adjacent projects like Demonaz's March of the Norse, a solid 8.5/10 banger, and the underrated I Supergroup's Between Two Worlds, which is basically an Immortal black heavy metal album that's a solid 9.5 for me. If it was an Immortal album it would be top 5 or 6. Not a fan of Abbath's solo work, it's pretty bland.

I totally agree with your top 2. At the heart of winter was my favorite of the first 5 albums. Amazing stuff. Sons will always be their peak album until they prove me wrong.

Battles in the North (1995) and Northern Chaos Gods (2018) were two of my most favorite Immortal albums. I loved the art work on Northern Chaos Gods, especially. Awesome albums!
I don't know why everyone hates Blizzard Beasts so much, its fucking fantastic to me! It got me into them, heard One by One when it was new while buying.....something..., then went to HMV and all they had was BB, so I bought that first realizing as a dutiful Metal Head that I had missed something crucial, and bought the rest of their cataloge immediately thereafter. Love it ALL!
Nah... good ole Abbath does them... Hellhammer was in the band briefly in 95 tho... did the tour I think & was in the Grim and Frostbitten Kingdoms music vid
First: Immortal is NOT a black metal band. Second: only with Demonaz on guitar its real Immortal because he is killer and on battles in the north as well as pure holocaust Abbath played the drums and I heard that because he sucks as a drummer, they speeded it up and so its fake. So Blizzard Beasts is the best Immortal record, just listen to that riffs. Do you know something about it at all? After that the guitars suck and just look at the bandlogo they changed it, thats not Immortal after Blizzard Beasts. Sry man but I think you dont really know this record and the history.
@@Aquarius999FJS Sorry but that's a really shitty take. Blizzard Beasts sounds like it was produced by someone who has no clue what they're doing. And, apart from Pure Holocaust, some of Immortal's best material came after: At The Heart, Damned in Black and Sons of Northern Darkness.
@@Transilvanian90 i dont like Immortal with Abbath on guitars. The sound of Blizzard is not good but hey cruelty and the beast is bad qualty too and I like it. But back to Immortal: yes Pure Holocaust is good as Blizzard. Demonaz is way better guitarist.

I love Immortal but there's SO much more good black metal out there dude. And Abbath's solo project is pretty shitty, it's bland Immortal worship.
